Is a rip off @ 14.99 a month. Think about it stream tracks from pandora. Lets say you dedicate a whole hour to it. Each track can be anywhere between 3-4mbs. Lets say you stream 10 songs thats 40mb in an hr. That leaves you with 200mb for an entire month. Not counting your browsing/uploading etc.

ATT is a huge ripoff. Unfortunately they do it because they know people will pay anything for it.

About 300k+ spoke with their wallets when they purchased the 3g model. ATT will continue to rape its customers until it sees that we are
speaking with our wallets instead of our mouths :(

How is $29.99, including all taxes and fees, raping us? It's unlimited data on the iPad, which uses a TON more data than the iPhone.

Plus there's no contract! Just cancel it when you don't need it one month...

It costs them virtually nothing for that bandwidth.

Keep in mind not everyone is going to replace wifi with 3G. I do not plan on doing Pandora on 3G. Nor did I plan on buying songs or apps on 3G. For that sort of stuff I was willing and able to wait till I was on a wifi network.

Some people are willing to wait for a wifi connection; and others (like yourself perhaps) want the instant gratification - that is the reason between the two plan as I see it.

AT&T is not ripping folks off compared to the likes of Verizon or Sprint with unlimited data plans at $60 - true you can create a wifi network with them.. but you are locked in for 2 years with them. :(

But with the iPad you can go month to month and change plans as your needs changes.

What I will give you is that I would like AT&T to give me the ability to tether my iPhone using the same data plan... some of us will use either the iPhone or the iPad - but not both at the same time....

AT&T has spent multiple BILLIONS of dollars per year expanding and enhancing its mobile data network. I fail to see how that is 'virtually nothing'.

$30 for unlimited access is quite fair. I do understand the angst of those wishing to tether to their iPhones to avoid double paying, but thats a different issue than this comment.

Well maybe not given the complaints about 3G access in major cities.

In the end AT&T needs to fund in some way the 3G and coming 4G bandwidth in some way. Have to say that I am disheartened in seeing posts in seeing that in about 6 days some folks have amassed 2 to 3GB of usage - robbing us "normal" users that same bandwidth...

Have these folks never heard of wifi?

Do hope that AT&T implements a 5GB limit on their "unlimited: 3G service... only fair for the rest of us...

Ignorance...?

Dude seriously? Do you LIKE to bite the hand that feeds too? AT&T cut all of its competitor's prices in half with their unlimited plan! $30 for unlimited?!? That's INCREDIBLY cheap compared to $60 FOR ONLY 5GB ON OTHER CARRIERS!!

The 250MB plan is for those who should only need to use 3G slightly a a few times a month.

Don't knock AT&T for your own ignorance!

I'm sorry I'm harsh but I can't stand the people who whine and complain when they're given such a great deal.

This still is a free market country isn't it. What's so bad about a company that provides a service that people are willing to pay for a bad thing.

God Bless America!

That's where AT&T makes their money, what do you expect? Wifi only for me please.

Amen there brother!

Add to that AT&T is giving us free access to something like 20,000 wifi spots!

Na is cool bigbeast. We obviously have different opinions about the current 3g offerings. I was mainly stating my point towards the 250mb for 14.99.

250MB for 14.99

It's definitely not for everyone, but for those that need it only occasionally, it's nice to have a lower cost alternative.

It just starts the 30 days over and they charge you a full $30 for the unlimited plan.

That's BS! They should just charge you an extra $15 for the unlimited data starting from the date you ordered the 250 mb plan. Or at least give you the option. So now they're making $45 on you as opposed to $30. Just a way for them to make more $. They know 250 mb is not going to be enough for MOST people so they are taking advantage.

I have yet to activate my 3G. Today was my first day outta the house with the iPad. I was at a car dealership (buying a car but that's another story for another forum) for hours and I planned to activate. But I whipped out the iPad and right away it found their wifi. After remembering to turn off auto-fill it connected and there was no need to activate 3G. Big mistake though. Soon all the sales people would not leave me alone cuz they wanted to play with it. It's not so bad except that they come up one after another and repeated the same questions as the guy before them. But I digress.

The no contract thing is wonderful, but it's like paying rent without a lease. At any time the landlord can raise the rent. I don't think it will be soon but...I'm a little worried about it.

I still plan to try the 250MB plan first. I expect to limit my 3G usage to email and limited browsing. We'll see.

They did give the unlimited option up front.

Believe it or not, AT&T is in business to make as much money as they can. The two plans are fair, IMO. Live and learn.

I know that they give you the option. I meant to just give you the option of paying the extra $15 for the unlimited data for the rest of the 30 day cycle since you already paid $15. Doesn't seem fair IMO.

They notify you on the iPad and via email when you have 20%, 10%, and 0% left...then you can buy another 250mb or switch to the Unlimited plan right on the iPad. It's actually pretty slick!!!

And they just charge you what the plan costs...no hidden fees or charges...nice!

Now the question anyone wanted answered: When you used up 250 MB in 4 days and switched to unlimited, did you pay $15 for unlimited starting four days ago, or did you pay $30 for unlimited starting today?

is 3Gb a month enough for smartphone and ipad usage? I am going to have an ipad soon. I will be using it 4-6 hours a day without wifi, on the road.

I don't want to pay for the extra Gb I use, They are overpriced.

They charged me $30 for the unlimited plan, starting the day I switched to unlimited. So I now have 30 days of unlimited...I paid $15 for the 4 days of 250 mb and $30 for the next 30 days.

Please refrain from showing your ignorance. I should not be allowed to use their UNLIMITED plan because you don't want me to steal your data? We are paying $30 a month for what AT&T says is a REAL unlimited plan. I am not trying to be rude, but you need to quit saying crap like that. I use around 250gb per month on my DSL package, and you are saying that I shouldn't be able to use as much data as I want because I am making your internet slower? You are not making any sense at all.
Hey buddy, I've watched 6 or 7 netflix movies over 3g and a bunch of youtube videos. You are saying I shouldn't be allowed to do that even though I paid for that option? HA! I love it, the guy above you has used 30+GB so far! lol I really hope he is in your city slowing your data. If they say we have unlimited, you cannot get mad when people take them up on it. I have already used 6 gb so far, so in your world AT&T SHOULD throttle my download speeds? That's almost psychotic for you to say that. Wow, just wow!
