We play Arsenal tomorrow. If we play the same way we did against United it will be embarrassing. If we play the way we did against Arsenal in the cup I’ll be a happy hammer.

Gosh.

I had (almost) forgotten about that.

Let's hope that you play the way you did against Manchester United, while we play the way we did against Liverpool.

Current EPL standings is probably how the league finishes

Liverpool v City looking to be a monumental clash.

As is City v Arsenal

Meanwhile Leverkusen 5pts clear at the top of bundesliga.

Hoping for a third win over Arsenal this season.

We can’t compete with a team that has those sort of resources. But the manner of the collapse is embarrassing.
Not watching it which is probably just as well.
You have already competed - competed competently, and more than adequately, as you, yourself have already pointed out - earlier this season against Arsenal.

However, the West Ham collapse was as complete as Arsenal's victory was comprehensive and confident.

And Declan Rice is both an outstanding footballer and a very impressive human being.

A happy Gunner, here, this evening.

United turned up enough. Pretty good play until Højlund scored, then they kind of closed up shop a bit, and that was never sustainable.

I don't know what's gotten into Scott McTominay, but he's somehow transformed into a real match-winner. Bringing him off the bench to score late goals seems his ideal role in the squad. I can't explain it, but I won't complain, either.

Villa wasteful perhaps started believing their own hype. That might be their achilles heel which lets Spurs or Utd pip them to top 4

ETH pretty much knows his strongest 11 now +/- Amrabat and Martinez

Antony now proven to be a waste of money.

OGS was a similar player. Did great from the bench.

I have to say - I was stunned to see the score of the Arsenal vs Hammers game. I really expected that to be a lot closer.
As for Villa vs United? I really wanted a Villa win and was also expecting more from them, but football is a funny old game.

Meanwhile, WEllington Phoenix continue to be at the top of the A-League and Saints are consolidating their second place in the Championship.

Happy days.

As did I, not least, given the results of the two previous occasions when the teams had met, and, also, not least given the players still absent from Arsenal's squad through injury, or other reasons (away at the Asian or African cups): These include Partey, Tomiyashu, Gabriel Jesus, Jurrien Timber, and Zinchenko.

Yes, United played very well, but I had been expecting more from Villa.

We were also missing some key players. But I’m not making excuses. We were shocking. Truly shocking.

For all of that, I still think that Moyes has been an excellent manager for West Ham.

And I also think that maybe West Ham should have - perhaps - pushed harder for Maguire (whom, I suspect, didn't want to move) last summer.

THe Maguire call is a huge and controversial one!
Crikey! I can't imagine anyone stating that they should have pushed harder for him.
Yes - he's an England stalwart, but he hasn't been playing a lot over the last couple of years and his star lost its shine a long time ago - plus he'd be paid over the odds currently and I can't imagine wanting to pay him a large wage for a potentially ordinary return on investment.

But that 's just my personal view - I am in no way an expert on this kind of thing, despite what I may profess.

Well if you recall we were heavily linked with Mctominay and McGuire over the summer. Both of whom I think have improved of late in a United shirt.
Meanwhile Phillips on loan isn’t starting games. Not sure if it’s match fitness he’s lacking or something else.

I’m hoping Paqueta comes back soon. We need his skill to open games up for us a bit.

I think that Maguire - West Ham were sounding him out last summer, and ETH wanted to get rid of him, if you recall - would actually work well within a West Ham set-up.

Now, while the excuse was wages - for, neither Manchester United nor West Ham wished to have to pay Maguire's (inflated) wage bill, but, in truth, I think that that was simply an excuse: I don't think that Maguire wanted to move to London.

Agree that his deficiencies are more obvious, and that his star has lost its shine for quite some time.

However, bizarrely, and perversely, and ironically, both he and McTominay (whom ETH also wished to shed during the summer transfer window, if memory serves) have played very well for United this season.
