Actually, while I do think that Arteta's "people" skills could do with some attention, @Alphazoid makes a fair point about perspective, and how the fact that Ramsdale is English seems to serve to render his treatment worse in the eyes of some commentators and media (and rather intemperate fans).

Klopp (who is famously empathetic) replaced Karius rather briskly after the disaster of the latter's egregious errors during the 2018 Champions' League final, - a debacle from which no return was possible - while, earlier still, almost Guardiola's very first action when he took charge at Manchester City was to discard (and replace) Joe Hart.
I read somewhere or other that Arsenal received an offer from another PL club re your unwanted keeper. I’m thinking it’s Utd. Anyway if it was true it was knocked back (for now!).

I imagine that he will seek a transfer during the coming transfer window.

However, I, for one, regret the way that this has happened; he has been a good servant to the club, and, even if he is unable to play out from the back, he is (or, used to be) an excellent shot stopper.

For all of that, I am not entirely convinced of Raya - while he can indeed play out from the back, his judgment (which is something you do need in a goalie), is sometimes suspect, and I am not so certain that he can "command" and "control" his defence the way that Ramsdale used to be able to do.

However, I am struck by the observation that the pressing game (with its emphasis on possession and playing out from the back) has sometimes made one's own area more threatening to a team, (and the consequent scoring of goals - but, for the wrong side - all the more likely) than any threat they may present to their opponents when they arrive in enemy territory on the pitch.

Newcastle on the wrong side of referring. COnceding the penalty to PSG in the 97th min to draw.

City meanwhile come from 0-2 down to win 3-2

I wonder what narrative the football press are trying to pull over on Arsenal and Liverpool because one of the main stories doing the rounds in the football sections of the papers is an article about both Arsenal and Liverpool exploring options to see if they can get Kylin Mbappe on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer. What puzzles me about the news articles is that they make specific mentions of that Mbappe has always expressed a strong interest and desire to join Real Madrid when his contract comes to an end and also the fact that both Liverpool and Arsenal do not realistically have the funds to afford him. So if that is the case they why are they pushing this narrative that both Arsenal and Liverpool looking to see if they can get him. It is obvious to all football fans that the only teams in the PL that could afford take on Mbappe is mega bucks Man City and Newcastle but yet the news articles make no mention of them, just Arsenal and Liverpool. Hence my suspicion as to what are the football writers trying to do here.

Just fill columns. Lazy journalism. The purpose of a news article is to engage the public. People commenting on how ludicrous this is or how great it will be are both giving the site owners what they want. Engagement.
The truth? Well let’s not worry about that!
Anyway I read he’s coming to West Ham. Along with Salah, KDB and Haaland.
😀

Agreed.

Lazy, sloppy, careless, and casual journalism.

The need to fill space, columns, and airtime, and drive clicks and engagement.

And, worse again, pure time-wasting nonsense.

That sort of drivel is barely acceptable in the summer, during the transfer window when little else is taking place in the football world, but is inexcusable during the season.

Well I am going to predict it now. Come the summer transfer window Man United will be linked to Mbappe by some tabloid news reporter and Ronaldo and Henderson will be linked to Newcastle now that inter club swaps can take place by clubs owned by the same owner.

And I loved the recent story (and loved the fact that it was reported straight as a proper sports news story) that two football fans (from Birmingham) were arrested (during Birmingham's recent home match against Sheffield Wednesday) for alleged misogynistic chanting towards referee Rebecca Welsh, the first woman to officiate at Championship level matches (which she started doing last January).

Well, I headed out to the kitchen to prepare a mug of coffee (Method: Hario dripper and filter paper, coffee, El Salvador and natural processed, and also prepare some organic hot milk to accompany it), to keep me company for some of the game, returning to find that the Arsenal vs Lens game - which I had assumed would be nice and slow, the sort of game that takes most of the first half to even begin to warm up - has been transformed beyond all recognition.

Arsenal currently lead by four goals to nil, with Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Saka, and Martinelli, all appearing on the scoresheet.

Been busy so just saw your scoreline @Scepticalscribe. Surly something a little more celebratory than a coffee might be in order?
I'm laughing, reading this.

Well, yes.

Perhaps, tomorrow night, - as I may well replenish my beer supplies tomorrow - instead.

But, this week (and, for the past few weeks), I have essayed to have at least three or four dry nights per week, and tonight, as it happened, has been one of those chosen nights.

3 or 4? I probably have 3 or 4 'wet' nights a year!

Indeed.

But, this was not always the case, I suspect.

Arsenal probing for a sixth.....

Sometimes, I wish all games were like this.

What I love is the lack of stress, the lack of tension, the fact that I can actually relax, secure in the knowledge of the result.
