And here is what it shows when I try to install the gpe rom. When I tried insertcoin it would actually say it was successfully installed, but it would boot up and when I would go into recovery, the sd card was still empty.

Sorry for the multiple posts, on my iPhone and it only lets me upload one picture per post.
I think from what I have read......the partition size is changed when you officially convert to GPE. Then to change back to you have RUU to the stock image the phone came with. That varies by carrier. Hope this helps.....
This is the walk through that might be the one for you...

Going back to Sense from [RUU] Google Edition Conversion.

Thanks, I've tried several of those and non-worked because a lot of the methods needs s-off which I currently don't have.

I did manage to finally find a rom that would load, actually 2 ROMs, it seems that when the ota tried to load it updated my HBOOT to 3.18, thats why it looked different. It also seems that somehow locked my phone into only being able to 4.4.4 based ROMs, I've tried loading the 4.4.3. based GPE, insert coin, and stock at&t roms and all failed, however when I tried sky dragon and inspire, both 4.4.4 based, they flashed successfully. I have no idea how to downgrade my HBOOT back with s-on, and nothing seems to work in getting s-off.

I guess I'm stuck using sky dragon for while.

Huzah! All is good now, I was able to restore from a backup of 4.4.2 using philz cwm recovery tool, afterwards I used sunshine to get s-off. It cost $25, but it was well worth it. I now have a converted HTC One GPE with ota updates.

Anyone looking to loading Roms or doing a conversion, I highly recommend sunshine, all you do is run it in your phone and it takes care of the rest. You can get it here:

Thanks a lot for your help, if anything it lead me on the right path to finally fixing it.

Fernandez, now that you finally got it resolved, hows the phone treating you? Which rom are you running? did you get rid of AT&T bloatware?

Finally picked up a M8 today. Still getting everything 're-installed but loving it so far.

I'll try and wait a while before attempting a GPE conversion. #

Don't even mind the freebie case it came with.

Fernandez, now that you finally got it resolved, hows the phone treating you? Which rom are you running? did you get rid of AT&T bloatware?

Its been great. I never had a problem with the stock ROM, other than some slowdowns when doing stuff in the background, but the stock sense ROM even with at&t's bloatware was actually pretty good, which is why I waited so long to even attempt the conversion, got the phone in April.

But after seeing the L update, and knowing it probably wouldn't come to my phone until spring of next year, I decided to just convert it now to GPE so when the update is released this fall/winter I'd get it then.

As for what its running now, I installed the RUU 4.4.4 GPE edition. Everything feels slightly faster than before, though hardly noticeable since it was already fast, there are less hiccups. My only complaint is that there is no way to set up the camera to use the microsd card instead of onboard storage.

Quick question, with the RUU installation, that means it even installed the stock boot loader, hboot, and recovery right? I know the splash screen when I restart the phone shows the google logo instead of HTC now, but it still show the boot loader is unlocked and I assume I still have s-off. So when the ota update comes out, do I have to relock the boot loader and turn s-on for the ota to work, or can I just keep everything like it is now? Thanks.

It will still have HBOOT (though the RUU may have updated it to a newer version) instead of the Google bootloader. Should have the stock Google recovery. Lock status of HBOOT and S-OFF/S-ON don't matter in regards to OTA updates. You should just leave it at S-OFF unless you ever need to return it to factory and send it in for repair/replacement. Also I'm pretty sure supercid blocks OTAs, so you might want to set your cid to GOOG001, if it isn't already, to be safe.

What phone are you coming from? Does it feel heavy?

I'm on the fence about getting one. I'd keep it for two years so it's a hard decision to make.

Came from a Nexus 5 and just before that a Note 3. It's fair to say I get through way too many mobile phones.

I wouldn't say it's heavy as such. Heavier than a Nexus or iPhone 5s for sure, but not enough to cause any issues. I like a bit of weight to a device, makes it feel more 'substantial' to me.

OK, yeah I had already changed the cid to GOOGL001 before I installed the RUU. Its an AT&T carrier version of the HTC one m8, the original cid was cws_001. What I did was I unlocked the boot loader, rooted, installed twrp, installed SuperSU, s-offed, changed the cid, then installed the RUU in the fastboot rebootRUU screen.

I got the ruu from this thread at xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
I used the stock non-rooted RUU.

After that I haven't touched anything, haven't booted into hboot or recovery since. Just wanted to make sure there weren't other steps I missed, I just want to keep my phone on stock android and update ota when they get pushed out.

Also, would my phone be less secure having left everything unlocked like that? Thanks.

Looks like you've followed all the steps correctly to me.

I guess the answer would technically be yes, as HBOOT + S-OFF allow you to change/flash any partition on the phone, but you would need physical access to the device to make any changes to it. FWIW, I never relock my bootloaders after I unlock them. Plus, who knows, HTC's Sense version of L may leave you wanting to switch back; and it doesn't hinder your ability to receive OTAs if you leave them as is, so why not?

OK. My only concern was if over the internet someone could get information from my phone or something easier, thus I have avoided logging into my bank from this phone. Or also installing malware or things like that. But if you need actual physical contact with my phone, then I really have no worries, as someone who would know how to do that are actually rare out in the real world, and I've also never lost a phone before either so someone else getting their mits on this one will be unlikely. Thanks.

Good to hear for HTC :).

Now just imagine the One M9 next Spring. Probably a WQHD display, running the 810 Snapdragon, with Sense 7 based off Android 'L'.

Should be amazing.

Yep! Just please HTC put a better camera in your phones. This could have one of the best selling Android phones if it just had a better camera. But even with an average camera it is still a great phone! :)

Honestly, the camera ain't that bad. I wouldn't say it's great, but it's not awful like some people like to make it out to be. There are some instances where the light is blown out, but I don't know that my 5S would have been able to handle it either.

I will say that without a doubt it focuses and shoots faster than my 5S on 7.1 did. 7.1 wrecked the camera experience for me.

My battery life on my M8 had been fantastic too. I'm not saying that I didn't have to work for it, as I had to put a custom rom on, kernel, root, and Greenify. But I'm going to bed with 30-40% left, without using power saver, compared to my new 5S (was a warranty replacement) which would limp in at 10-15%. I'm a heavy user, I guess.

I'm not bashing Apple or iOS (as the rest of my gear runs iOS), but if you're thinking about Android, take a hard look at the M8.

It's just a disappointment that for +$600 unlocked, the camera is not on par with the other phones at the same price.

Still, I'm really thinking about getting one. Do you like the 5S or M8 more? (I have the iP5)

They both have their strengths. For me, the camera slow down was a huge issue because I just got a new kitten, and he's fast. I was missing more shots than I was getting with my 5S.

Another issue (for me) is how screwed up iCloud is. It hadn't synced a photo to my PC in months without me knowing. I worked with Apple for weeks on it and they weren't able to resolve it. The last straw for me was how unreliable iTunes Match/In the Cloud became. It literally took me a week to put my music back on my phone. I realize that those aren't phone specific issues, but they were issues I would never escape unless I nuked my account or something. With my M8, my photos are being uploaded to Flickr and Google in the background, only on wifi. Just like how iCloud was supposed to work.

There are some apps that I miss, though I do have my iPad mini for those. At the same time, I like tweaking. Just today, I learned how my processor was binned in order to undervolt it; thereby increasing my battery life without taking a performance hit.

I bought a 64gb microSD card, and filed that solely with music. I couldn't do more than maybe 20gb on my 64gb 5S, because I had 10gb of photo apps alone, lol. So I'm getting to hear music I haven't heard in years.

I honestly can say that I don't think you could go wrong with either phone, and it'll be even closer once the 6 is released. . If you want the best accessory market out there and the best of the best apps, and you want a phone that (generally) just works, stay with your 5S. If you like really tweaking and really customizing (sometimes with poor results), give the M8 a good look. You don't have to tweak anything, it works fine as is, but I like getting into the nuts and bolts.

Watch MKBHDs reviews of it, he does a great job.

I have had my m8 since launch day and love everything about it except the height. I just can't settle in on the size of the device. I have average sized hands, and accessing the whole screen with one hand isn't a problem, but the height just makes it a bit awkward.

Anyone else?

Unfortunately, this one issue has kept me looking around at other new devices. I just feel like other devices lack so much compared to the m8.

I guess I assumed that everyone knew that, like how the Lumia 1020 is the best camera there is. Oops. lol

Going from the 5S to the M8 (much like going from the 4S to the M7) will always need a learning curve for your muscle memory. I'm used to it now. I think my hands would be considered larger than average, but I've always previously liked the one-handed form factor that Apple's held for so long. Now, I can mostly get along with the M8 one-handed, in a case, since my hands have gotten used to it.

With that being said, I picked up the LG G3 the other day (as in held, not bought). It's really, really comfortable. From what I understand, it's not much bigger than the M8. That makes me wonder how the OnePlus One will feel, should I ever get an invite to buy one.

Going to the 5S from my M7, my immediate reaction was "Finally! Battery life!". My second reaction was, "Aww crap, I gotta cup the bottom of the phone again. I miss my front-facing speakers."

I'll agree with MKBHD here in that front-facing speakers should be standard on all phones (and tablets). There are plenty of ways to do it without ruining some designer's day.

I'd say try firewater first. No sense paying $25 for something you may be able to get for free. Not that devs shouldn't be paid, of course.

I had to use Sunshine as well.
