Hahaha this is funny. It is ridiculous that people get offended if you like what they don't or don't like what they like :)

Scottsdale, you do not know what you are talking about. The bezel is HUGE and they could have made it smaller. You are wrong! :D

How in the hell am I wrong? All I said was I felt that the MBA update was going to have a 13" display but was going to be the size of the 11.6" MBA. I wanted that and thought that before the update and shared it. I couldn't be wrong because I was just saying that is what I thought should happen, and I feel like the bezels are ALL ridiculously large on EVERY Mac notebook.

In addition, there are people here who get deeply offended when someone wants something different than I do. I can tell you a whopper of a story here about someone who was appauled by me not wanting a ten-hour battery in the MBA update... This person was so offended as to attack me over it several times. So people here do definitely get offended when other people don't share their every thought.

If I want to take a debate position against an Apple or SJ decision, people take it as if I were attacking them personally. It's just debate but these people will be so offended as to call me names... when I didn't call them anything just took a debate position against Apple or SJ. I don't understand it personally, but that doesn't make it any less true!

However strange this may sound, the large bezel is a deal breaker to me. I mean, everything is *so* stylish about the new MBA - why leave such unappealing detail?

///m5 i love your forum name man although owning a few ///m3's i am partial to those but love the e39bmwm5..

back to the topic i totally agree..I was looking at a 11"mba the other day and was surprised by how much bezel was there.. I am probably going to go for its bigger brother but the people I know that have the 11" love it and don't seemed to mind.. Also if they put a bigger screen in it, it would cost more..

Well, honestly if the bezel size is a deal breaker then you really don't need this machine. It's killer feature is size. ;)

The bezel doesn't affect that size the size is limited by the keyboard. Would I have liked a smaller bezel and a larger screen? Sure. But I'm sure they were driven by two constraints, rigidity and available screen sizes. Anyone thinking the 13.3 screen would have fit and not had the screen lid crumple like a piece of tin foil due to lack of stiffness is mistaken. I'll live with all the benefits of the 11.6 and "suffer" with the bezel. :)

Closer to .1 inch. 11" MBA is .75 inches on each side, 13" MBA is .65 inches.

EDIT: Did a little photoshopping. First one is the same size screen, smaller bezel. Second one is bigger screen, same bezel. Didn't photoshop the reflection on the iPad.

This is way too nice!!

If the MBA (13.3 inch had a small bezel and smaller front print) , it'll totally be the perfect laptop.

11.6 being even smaller would be nice, or housing a 12 inch screen instead.

Am I the only one who thinks the 11.6" is gorgeous?
Honestly, I think it's the nicest looking apple laptop ever conceived.
The bezel doesn't bother me in the slightest, to be quite honest I didn't even really notice.

The screen is beautiful and the laptop in general is unbelievable.
I know it's all based on opinion, but I believe you're all mistaken. ;)

I like the silver bezel. The black would look elegant but I am pretty happy with this. It matches the rest of the laptop.

ps. I agree its a gorgeous laptop. My favourite laptop ever. Don't think anything else looks quite as good!

SIlver bezel means my screen after a month of owning it still has ZERO fingerprints on it! any need to touch the screen or accidental interaction with it is with the bezel. Unlike the macbook pro which ever little bit of contact with the glass produces a smudge or fingerprint etc. And we all know, that NOTHING can clean the screen back to its pristine condition that its in when you first pull it out of the box.

Yes. A mac is a fashion statement, I've considered getting the air simply because the hardware looks quite splendid and a spec'ed out 13" would probably rival my MBP, but that dang bezel is huge.

Uh... Every time I've taken my mac into the Apple store for service, it always comes back with a clean screen. Looks like the day I bought it. and I'm fairly certain they don't replace my screen when they fixed my left fan...

A bigger display would be heavier, costlier, and the larger area backlight would eat battery life faster.

I happen to like it lightweight, clearly less expensive than the 13, with a full-sized keyboard and decent battery life. A narrower bezel wouldn't be worth losing some or all of those. In fact, lighter and cheaper might be nice for many customers.

No, I totally agree with you. I love the design and the proportions of the 11.6". I couldn't imagine a thinner bezel. I think it would look funny, honestly. Somewhat unbalanced.

Its the back of the screen, unibody construction that give the screen strength.
The thick bezel seems to be a design trait in the entire line, I agree they should go back to the g4 bezel size and pack in some larger screens and cut some models. Ala 15" MBA! The should be negotiating with LG to produce the screens that they want! Every other company can do interesting cutting edge things, why don't they push they boundaries when it comes to displays!

Why wait to have a future concept product! Apples run by greedy accountants these days.
