After setting a production deadline for the new, affordable Model 3 of July 1, 2017, during the company's earnings call today, Tesla CEO Elon Musk admitted that supply issues would make that date impossible. Likening the production date to a term paper deadline, Musk said it was important to set the date, but the company was highly unlikely to develop the supply chain for Model 3 parts in time.
Tesla showed off the prototype Model 3 during an event on April 1, noting the car's $35,000 base price and range of over 215 miles. After showing the car, Tesla began taking preorders at $1,000 each. In one week, Tesla logged 325,000 preorders.
Musk said that the Model 3 was designed to be much less complicated to manufacture than the Model S and Model X. However, the process of developing the parts necessary from suppliers and integrating them into the line would set actual production back. If any of its suppliers failed to meet expectations, Musk said that Tesla would begin fabricating the parts itself at its Fremont factory.
Estimating initial production at 100,00 to 200,000 for the Model 3 in 2017, Musk said that Tesla would be producing 500,000 cars a year in 2018.
Noting that producing cars in California and shipping them all over the world was inefficient, Musk suggested Tesla might set up factories in Europe and China, but only after maximizing production out of its Fremont plant.
Looks like Elon Musk is already back tracking from the original deadlines. What a mess the Model 3 launch is going to be...

Elon Musk says production deadline for Model 3 'impossible'
This is the perfect opening for the established OEMs to come out with a compelling line of EVs. There is an Audi EV SUV coming to go up against the Model X. Porsche is making a Model S competitor. Can't wait to see what the big dogs end up doing. As much as I love Musk and what he has done for electric cars, Tesla's infrastructure pales in comparison to other manufacturers, as it should be. But that alone would be enough for me not to consider a Tesla if I have to wait 1 or 2 years for.
Truecar.com is the closest to that.
I wouldn't suggest filling out your information after you get a quote though. You will keep getting spammed by dealerships around you. Haha
.
F TrueCar, the deals were always easy to beat with minimal negotiations anyway IME.
There were a few posts in the Reddit askcarsales section where some dealer employees mentioned more and more dealers and dropping TC as they are finding it is just not making them any money and is nothing but a hassle. That's true. If you don't like bargaining, then I guess Truecar is a pretty decent resource.
It's weird how TC has no pricing for certain brands in my region. No Audi or Porsche TC dealers.
Congrats on the BEAUTIFUL car!View attachment 630450 I have a new 2016 ES 350. I'm so happy with this car. Thanks everyone for your help.
Thank you!Congrats on the BEAUTIFUL car!
What color is the interior? How do you like it?
My dad just got a 2003 Ford Taurus for $150 and it has 91k miles on it. It was owned by an older lady who developed schizophrenia and it sat for 3 years. All it needs is a little suspension work and possibly a muffler, and it’s totally driveable. It runs and drives now, but my dad is gonna do the suspension work first.

Wow, that's cheap. Basically if it rolls it should be worth at least $500. Running $1000-2000. New car prices have increased dramatically, so used car prices are up. Sounds like you got a good deal, assuming it's not entirely screwed up from 3 years of sitting.
That's in pretty nice shape for its age. Nice find.It runs and drives perfectly! It just needs some spring work before its safe to drive. I spent the entire day yesterday cleaning it out, top to bottom. Needless to say, i am in love with this car. It makes me really sad it's not mine. The interior is really clean too. Sorry for the crappy pics haha

P.S. Do you really have some Snap On tools... or just the sign? (jealous here)
Nice stuff. Last I looked, those tool boxes alone cost about the same as a small car.My dad does yes, he is a certified mechanic, and has well over $15,000 in Snap-On tools aswell as a giant Snap-On tool box that is extremely heavy lol

Rumor: Honda to Celebrate Its 70th Anniversary with New S2000 Roadster
Talk of a new Honda sports car will not die. Although we now know that the tiny S660 roadster will not come to America, and a speculated mid-engine sports car positioned below the Acura NSX is probably not happening, the prospect of a reborn S2000 roadster is gaining steam. And it could arrive in 2018, as the company’s present to itself for its 70th anniversary.
There’s a certain symmetry to that, considering that Honda first launched the S2000 in 1998, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. For the 70th, we could be looking at both a new car and a commemorative two-wheeler, as well. “Based on the company’s MotoGP contender, the bike will be a detuned, roadgoing version of the RC213V-S,” says our source. “As for the car, expect something special. Size-wise, it’ll be similar to the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but the Honda will have a lot more power.”
Skeptics may note that Honda does not have a platform for a compact, rear-wheel-drive sports car. But our insider tells us to not overlook what the company has done with its S660 mini-coupe and the all-new NSX supercar. “Both those coupes have unique, dedicated platforms, right?” he says. Spot on.
His statement reminded us of a comment made by one Acura executive at the 2014 Detroit auto show. When asked if Honda were planning a smaller sports car to slot in under the NSX, the executive nodded and said he does want such a car, but that it would not appear before 2017.
One more snippet that points to a new sports car is Acura’s Precision concept unveiled at this year’s Detroit show. Sitting on a dedicated rear-drive platform, this look into the near future hinted at a coupe powered by a front-mounted 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with one rear-mounted motor and two front motors employing a torque-vectoring system.
The S2000 successor, which is expected to weigh less than 2900 pounds, will be powered by a slightly detuned version of the Civic Type R’s 2.0-liter turbo. That engine is made in the U.S.A.—and the car will be, too. To keep costs down, Honda has decided to build it alongside the NSX at its specialized Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio.
"A large complement of R&D staff from Japan are already in Ohio working on the car,” says our source, adding, “They have more time now that the NSX is finished.”

I've always had a soft spot for Tauruses. Their styling is quite modern and I love the interior in them, especially the bench seats. Super comfy for road trips. I think the best part of it has the be the powerful V6.
Ugh, you got me prowling for them on Craigslist.
