Picked up an Audi S3 a few days ago. Premium Prestige, Monsoon Gray, Navigation Plus, Driver Assistance packages. other random stuff. Love the feel. MQB platform is a huge improvement. Google Earth for navigation is pretty impressive. Haven't tried launch control yet, but hoping to maybe this weekend. S-tronic has come a long way, too; I had a 2004 Audi TT S-Line (3.2L + DSG). It's so much smoother now with shifts.

Roof if LOW. Panoramic sunroof is nice, but there isn't a lot of headroom. I'm surprised I can fit behind in the backseat fine with the front seat in my preferred position (I'm 5'11"). Wish there was more storage space in the car.

I think I'll leave it alone until the warranty is up. But I've also said that before quite a few times, and never stayed the course. I'd probably be happy with just a Stage 1 flash and nothing else in this car.

Honda just unveiled the new 2017 Honda CRV

The back is a little iffy, but it easily might become the best car in its class once again. I don't see a reason to buy the RDX over this, unless you really need a V6

Definitely some Acura influence in that interior. The seats look good, just so long as the leather/pleather is good and isn't hard and plasticy. I'm not a fan of the on the center console gear shifter.

I'm sure they'll sell great. The CRV has seemed a little dated for some time. RAV4 be warned- especially if they offer a V6. Any word on a hybrid?

The RDX is a decent value in terms of small luxury SUVs... besides lacking the sample level of quality feel and features. It seems like a dated car when it when the last generation released (2013?). The facelift still lacks features you'd expect. That said it's like $10,000 less than the competition. But it certainly draws into question lot just buying a loaded CRV, V6 aside.

I'm actually really impressed with Honda recently especially the work they put into the interiors.
They seem to just be filtering down the Acura interiors. I had a new high spec Accord the other day, for a moment I thought I was in an Acura. Good news for Honda, but Acura could step their game up IMO.

It wasn't long ago Acura was killing it. I can't even count how many people had MDX, RL's, and TL's. Even a lot of kids in town had RSX's. The MDX is still a great seller, RDX does well, but their sedans are really not selling like they used to from my perspective. I can count on one hand the number of RLX I've seen (despite living in an area with plenty, too many actually, of E/A6/GS/5/XF and S/A8/LS/7/XJ'S). Yes, Jaguars more prevalent than Acura sedans. Crazy. TLX are pretty sparse too. I'd say maybe they just don't stick out but im generally pretty aware of these things.

Again, just my perspective in the Boston area. Maybe things are different in other parts.

Definitely the same thing I witnessed here in the GTA. The first-gen TSX (TLX) and third-generation TL were hot sellers, you would see two at every corner but their successors didn't quite catch on like their predecessors. But fortunately, seems like Honda is reaping the benefits because I keep seeing the newer Honda's and they just look like quality, both exterior and interior. I could always find one or two things wrong with the Accord but the latest generation, looks like a great car for the average person and even car lovers.

Clearly I don't care much for BMW when I can only make out 3-4 differences to the outgoing model. The interior looks the same to me apart from the dash and some minor changes.

Edit: Oh, yes, I forgot about that stupid side vent at the front. Why?!

I like the back. It's more angular, more aggressive. Honda need aggressive designs. The only fatal flaw with the vehicle is the CVT being standard. I wish the engineers at Honda who came up with CVT used in most of their line up to sent to the gulag. It's an incredibly stupid decision. Hopefully a traditional automatic follows up in the 2nd or 3rd year.

Neuspeed calls it 'Hyper Black'. A black base coat followed with a silver coat then a clear coat. Here's a closer look:

They look great! Reminds me of milled steel.

The shifter is a carry-over from their third generation. It was Honda's attempt to get away from a steering column (or close to it) shifter and it's stuck with the car for a long time.

I'm sure they'll sell great. The CRV has seemed a little dated for some time. RAV4 be warned- especially if they offer a V6. Any word on a hybrid?

The CR-V got freshened up a few years ago but the design style itself was dated, so in a way I agree with you here. The new RAV4 looks great and at the top trim looks great inside with the two tone interior. I don't think we'll see a CR-V hybrid. Maybe a Pilot hybrid. I suspect the 2018 Pilot will get Honda's new design influence. Let's hope the CVT doesn't carry. What an awful waste.

The RDX will offer a smoother ride, but I suspect for many people wanting a cSUV the CR-V will be fine. The problem with the RDX, more so Acura, is that they haven't kept with the times. Their reliability isn't so good. And customers don't have much flexibility. I recall an anecdote you brought up of your mother looking into the RDX but becoming frustrated with the optioning.

They seem to just be filtering down the Acura interiors. I had a new high spec Accord the other day, for a moment I thought I was in an Acura. Good news for Honda, but Acura could step their game up IMO.

Could should be should...

As you live in the NE, the Acura SUVs weren't as popular as X vehicles or the RX or other brands here. The RSX at one point was very popular with the younger generations and the TSX sold like hotcakes. In the mid 2000s, it wasn't uncommon to see a TSX parked on every block when you drove into the city.

Again, just my perspective in the Boston area. Maybe things are different in other parts.

Correct, see above.

Agreed. The new CRV looks good all the way around until you get to the rear. That isn't an attractive rear end.....

But that interior is absolutely fantastic looking. If I was to go buy Japanese, Honda would be my preference. Until I guess we see the details of the Supra I guess..... ;)

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/20...ble-brands-tesla-cracks-top-100/#more-1422969

Interbrand released its annual list of the world’s top 100 brands, a ranking that now contains an independent automaker.

While Toyota climbs one spot to the No. 5 position (the highest of all automakers), Tesla has muscled its way onto the field, slotting at No. 100. Volkswagen continues the brand value descent it began last year, falling from No. 35 to No. 40 and posting a value decline of 9 percent.

There’s grim news for GM, as none of its brands made the list this year.

Mercedes-Benz now finds itself in the Top Ten, a heady hangout dominated by Apple, Google, and Coca-Cola. The German automaker moves up three spots, from No. 12 to No. 9. Meanwhile, its chief rival, BMW, went nowhere, staying put in the No. 11 spot. Honda gave up ground, slipping from No. 19 to No. 21.

In general, most of the automotive brands saw gains this year, with the most significant jumps coming from those near the bottom. For example, Mini leaped up ten spots in this year’s brand ranking, settling in at No. 88. Land Rover moved up to No. 78 from last year’s 87th place.

Chevrolet, which was ranked No. 85 last year, is nowhere to be found on the list.

The full list of automakers in the top 100 are:

Toyota (No. 5)
Mercedes-Benz (No. 9)
BMW (No. 11)
Honda (No. 21)
Ford (No. 33)
Hyundai (No. 35)
Audi (No. 38)
Volkswagen (No. 40)
Nissan (No. 43)
Porsche (No. 50)
Kia (No. 69)
Land Rover (No. 78)
Mini (No. 88)
Tesla (No. 100)

Porsche Ranked Highest In NADA’s Value Retention Report

NADA-Guids.jpg

8iB4per.jpg

Every year, the National Auto Dealer’s Association (NADA) releases a report outlining the cars to perform best in their “Three Year Value Retention” test.

Porsche has absolutely dominated the “Luxury Sports Car” category, taking the top three positions by a pretty wide margin. Back in 2013, if you’d purchased a new Porsche sports car, it’s value has held up better than any other sports car in the segment. According to the graph above, you can see that a 2013 model 997-generation 911 would have performed best, while the relatively new 981 Boxster and 991-generation 911 lag just a few percentage points behind.
[doublepost=1476497620][/doublepost]Car and Driver just posted their 2017 718 Boxster S review with the new turbo-4

It's unbelievable how fast a "lower-end" sportscar is these days. 3.6s 0-60 is almost Carrera GT-fast

Looks good, I hope to keep my WRX for a long time, but if something were to happen to it, that would definitely be on my short list of vehicles to consider as I think I want a CUV/small SUV next.

Although I hate wood trim, I bet it would look fantastic with aluminum on black, I hope that's an option.

What's rule #2? I feel like I'm missing something here...

It's more or less the opposite of #1 :D

A cool pic without any additional info/description/narrative.

We're also making these rules up as we go ...

I must be getting old because I wanted to say The Transporter and Ronin were the best blockbusters in '98 but it appears I'm off by 4 years! Fancy that. I loved the original Transporter. It reminded me a bit of Ronin, a fantastic film from 1998. I still have the DVD I bought when it came out! Ronin had some of the best car driving scenes short of Bullitt.

The only time I've ever wanted an Audi was when I first watched Ronin. That S8 was amazing. I can't say I like the current S8, but the A8L was used in the European production called Transporter: The Series, which is available on Netflix. It's not the best show in relation to movies or professional editing, but the driving scenes are alright.

I *love* Ronin, it has such a grounded feel (vs. The Transporter, which is fun, but pretty silly), directed by Frankenheimer, starring De Niro, Jean Reno, so many great actors, excellent twists and mystery, and that S8 chase, one of the best (up there with Bullitt, Live and Die in LA, French Connection ...)

So this weeks rental I decided to try to get a Camaro to have it as an extended test drive. Well Avis didn't have any... So I'm in a Mustang.

V6 POWA ! ! !
