Purchased my new car this weekend, its a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Convertible Grand Touring, I absolutely love it. Not only is it a good looking car, but it is very fun to drive.

Took it for a little drive through Red Rock Canyon National Park on Sunday

Holy smokes, great photos, they look like brochure images :D

Looks terrific, the Miata was and is the modern reference vehicle in the "real" two seater roadster category (RIP S2000, *tear*)

Thanks man, they are iPhone photos too :)

It is really one of the best looking cars I have seen, as soon as I saw it I knew I was getting it. I have always loved the 2-seater roadsters, they are fun and simple.

If this is about the Apple Car, someone around here said they could make a Cooper Mini into an 'Apple Car'.

Except the really horrendous gas mileage for a car that size.
[doublepost=1492546856][/doublepost]The most fun I've ever had behind the wheel was driving a Mazda 3-something across the Big Island.

It's called Saddle Road. It's more fun than a barrel of monkeys. I caught air at least a dozen times, and the hairpin curves, and all of it. I made it across the island in less than something like 40 minutes. Locals were surprised I arrived when I did, and wondered how I got there so quickly. I told them about the road I was on, and their faces blanched. The week before three people were killed on that road when their car flipped over. It's one of those roads that is on the 'Thou shalt not drive' in the rental agreement.

But it was so damn much fun!

I got yelled at for being reckless, but still had a grin on my face. The car never felt loose or in trouble. It was a fairly new one as well, which probably worked in my favor. And I looked at the agreement and sure enough. Just use your head...

I think we need to lay the Apple Car to rest. It's bad for Apple and bad for cars. They can focus on automation software all they want, but to expect Apple to be able to compete with car manufacturers isn't reasonable.

New one looks fantastic. I really like the way Mazda's design department is running these days. The RF model looks even cooler but the premium it carries over the standard model is not.

Yeah, I get that, plus I got the 2016 because it was $4000 off, last one they had, I bought it right off the showroom floor.

And it's in one of my favorite colors Mazda offers. The CX-9 looks fantastic in this metallic gray.

So this one is actually black (according to the book) but it looks grey thanks to the sparkles in the paint and the sunlight I think. I do like the grey, my Mazda 3 was dark grey, but I do like the black as well. I never had paint that had the flake in it before but I do like it.

I can see it being black. I figured Mazda did what some of the other companies do, and make a flake paint that changes color depending on the time of day.

Yours is a Bel Air, but I'm more interested in the car in front of you.

Edit: Actually, is it a split rear window or split front window?

I want a bel air nomad, but living in UK it be like driving a tank to work lol.

Currently have a 2001 hyundai coupe Gen2, which is quick sexy for a budget car.

But my passion is my 1966 Austin 1100, my 1969 Riley Elf and my 1972 Austin 1300 Vanden Plas Princess.
The princess is one of only 3 made in it's particular trim/colour combination.

Black with lime flower green interior.

Beautiful! The front car, just a quick guess given the double splits and the few details I can make out, looks like a 40s Ford Deluxe.

Close enough! It's actually a '40 Tudor Standard.

You won't find another like this one though - it's powered by a DeSoto Fire Flite Eight with a Lasalle side shift trans (so, yeah, it does have a Hemi) which you old school rodders know was a monster of an engine back in its day.

tl;dr
My dad actually built this car as a street drag contender back in the '50s, but sold it to help fund college tuition. Sometime in the late 90s, he came to see me in a car show and was checking out a '40 Tudor, "just like the one I had when I was a kid." It turns out that it actually was his car; the current owner bought it from the guy my dad sold it to and brought the body up to car show status, but left the unique drivetrain alone. So he ended up making this guy an offer he couldn't refuse, and so after about 50 years my dad has the first hot rod he ever built sitting in his garage again.

Fantastic cars, and that's a pretty incredible story! Wow, I'd love to have one of my dad's old cars, but they're very long gone.

A friend across the street tracked down a boat his dad made, you know, same sort of thing someone saw it for sale somewhere - anyway, it's like 50 years old and still in amazing shape, he cleaned it up a bit, new motor, uses it for flounder fishing in the flats. I love those kind of stories :)

I think that Elf would fit in the back of the Nomad. Geez, I think it would fit in the back of the Bel Air 2-door!

That reminds me of how many stories of his cars my grandpa told me. I can name, in order, every car he's had because of all the stories.
One in particular is how he once got pulled over for doing 120 in a 55 in his '77 GMC 3/4 ton (454, TH400, posi-trac), and the cop, as he was writing the ticket, gets a call for a domestic disturbance, turns to my grandpa and says "This is your lucky day", gets into his cruiser and drives off.

Your probably right.
The elf still based on the mini but bit more posh lol.
only changed rear with larger boot and a fancy nose but middle same and most mechanics the same as the classic mini.

Fun fact:

the original mini will actually fit inside the new bmw mini.
This was proven with a lifesize cardboard classic mini put inside a stripped new mini

Anyone drive one of these? If so, I'd like to hear your impression. :) Is there a trunk? Yes, I should probably go to the dealer and test drive it.
