My wife had requested sheepskin seat covers for the Miata. I've been browsing dedicated sheepskin seat cover sites in the $500 range to Amazon down in the $70-100 range. Any suggestions? How does Synthetic sheepskin style covers compare to the real thing? If anything, we want them to be cool, not hot in the summer. The other issue is that the Miata seats are relatively narrow and have build in head rests.
Any suggestions appreciated!

Any Highlander Owners or Mechanics? I just replaced a left tail light that my wife cracked on our 2012 Toyota Highlander, while backing up in a tight space. I found a video online, followed it which required disassembling several trim pieces on the inside. Everything went fine, but after assembly the rear hatch which usually closes electronically with a button on the rear hatch won’t close properly. Now, just as it finishes its close cycle, there is a double beep and it reopens. Manually the door closes fine without issue.

I’ve examined the rear door and the trim around the opening. Everything looks as it should. I even disassembled the trim around the bottom of the door and removed it to see if the door would then close normally, nope. I’ve also examined the replacement light assembly and it is flush and looks just like the original right tail light assembly, so I am stumped. Any ideas? Thanks! o_O

Yes and average cars run above that these days I believe. :)
I can’t find the update I thought I had posted, but my tailgate gave up being obstinate and started working again. :)

I wonder if they are still made (not as a Saturn)?

GM discontinued the Sky back in 2010. But there was a similar vehicle/variant known as the Pontiac Solstice, Which was also discontinued in 2010. Both short lived roadsters.

Waze and Google Maps coming to CarPlay soon. Not bad. Not bad at all.

One of my favourite announcements. I use CarPlay regardless for the convenience and because the built in navigation is far from intuitive but the rest of the family is content to leave their phones wedged somewhere just so they can use Google or Waze. Seems a waste of that big old display.

To me that was the highlight of the first day. The night mode wasn't very impressive. I'm going to enjoy reading the frantic posts in the coming months of people updating a mission critical system and going berserk that they've messed up so badly. :p

So, initially I was going to order Eibach lowering Springs for the GT/CS, Which another colleague offered to help install them (I don’t have the necessary tools). After lots of reading , I’m not sure if that’s going to be the best idea specifically for my vehicle. Mainly because I have a front splitter that is direct off the Boss 302, and it sticks out rather far as pictured below. Others have commented with the 302 front splitter, driving on incline or decline with driveways, parking lots, ect has caused them to either damage the splitter by scraping it or it catches on the pavement, which results damaging/separating the bumper/splitter altogether. That’s _not_ something I’m willing to risk just for the sense of lowering the vehicle, which The Eibach lowering springs are 1.3 " Front, 2.0" in the Rear.

And then others have said, “If you take your time it’s not a problem when driving on a decline or incline.” That May be true, but we have all been in those moments we can’t prepare for everything and I’m not willing to be caught off guard to damage the car for the unexpected.

I will say though that I was looking forward to the Eibach springs (Which Have stellar reviews), mainly because not just of the ‘aggressive’ stance (Which I think it looks aggressive enough without the springs), but I do know that it helps with the handling with reduced body roll and nose diving. Being my car is slightly unique with the splitter From the 302, I can only imagine what it could cost to replace if it were to be damaged.

[In this picture, it’s kind of difficult to tell from the angle, but the splitter is fairly obtrusive, and the Mustang sits fairly low without the Lowering springs.]

That all said, the good news I scrapped the idea of the lowering Springs, and today I am ordering/upgrading to a set of new 20” ‘GT500’ wheels in charcoal gray with Mickey Thompson’s for the Mustang, which I’m abandoning the stock 19 inch high gloss black OEM wheels with the Pirelli tires (Which I do not like Pirelli anyways). I still might consider lowering springs for the SHO instead.

I also realized I never posted pictures of my Mustang as a whole since all the modifications I have made since I purchased the car. Once I have the wheels/tires on, I will post some before and after pictures of the outward facing changes, it’s interesting to See the smallest details change the look of the car dramatically, its turning out nicely.

Also, two car shows coming up in the next two weeks, so hopefully I can have everything ready to go before then.

It's a $160 piece of ABS plastic, and it's pretty durable (plenty of folks on later model S550s have swapped the standard or PP front lip for the C/S).

Nice. Of course, the phone still needs to be on a mount.

?

I just toss mine into the center console.
[doublepost=1528200745][/doublepost]I've been saying Apple should do this for a year or more, i.e., open up to 3rd party maps/navigation. Since they already showed they're OK with having competitive services on CP like Spotify and heck even a Google product with Play Music, it made zero sense to limit other services - in fact, based on hundreds of comments I read over the last day, it should HELP to retain/create new Apple customers!

Me too. A cup holder works well also.

On an unrelated note, I'm going to start the head gasket job on the MG this evening. Would folks here be interested in photos/a write up of it? If so, I'll do it, but if not I won't(don't want to clutter up the thread if no one is interested in reading it). At least I know I'm on one person's ignore list so it won't bother them :)

Do it up, I enjoy some posts about turning wrenches over the 30th detail product recommendation ... :D

I'll do it then :)

I like writing up wrench-turning posts.

Was planning on doing the MKZ brake job too when I get around to it. I don't mean this derisively at all, but it amazes me how many car guys never "get their hands dirty" and know what actually goes on in routine maintenance. I know a head gasket isn't "routine maintenance" but brakes certainly are.

So it finally came time to get serious about replacing the family/beach/utility/tow vehicle. As I’ve posted previously, it's a 4th gen T4R, V8/AWD, most options - it has done its duty, been on the beach countless times, pulled cars, boats, trailers, dealt with snow, sand, mud. We loved it.

I’ve made several posts about my thoughts on the replacement, but here’s a [not so] brief recap:

Ruled out up front the new 4R, it’s a solid SUV, but in 2018 it's time for a better transmission, the electronics are kind of dated (no CarPlay).

We really fell in love with the Jeep GC Overland with the High Altitude Package (we dig blacked out trim, dark wheels, dug the 5.7L V8 option, the look, the electronics.

Then, a 3rd row got more priority, JGC off the table.

We considered a land behemoth, Suburban/Yukon / Excursion, but they get stupid expensive quickly, ruled them out also because of their slightly too big size.

Ruled out the German options, they're just silly with option expenses, we owned a X5 4.4i so been there done that, and there are no local dealers (Audi and BMW dealers are a crappy hour drive away ...)

The Explorer Sport isn't a bad option, but there's a few things where it falls short (tranny, 3rd row space, a few other things).

The MDX popped up on the radar, but not the regular model, the Sport Hybrid, it's sporty, quick, has outstanding build/fit/finish, and 3rd row seats, however, it can't tow, and ultimately neither of us was a fan of the design.

My most recent post about this was highly favoring the Durango R/T, it looks great, has nearly the same seating room (3 row) as much bigger SUVs, Hemi is standard, sport lowered suspension, dynamic AWD with an actual low range (2-speed), for MY18 CarPlay and AA, same electronics as the GC (they’re outstanding), lots of passive and active safety (lane control, ACC),heated/cooled everything, inc. the 2nd row, remote start/hatch including smart app control, tows a bunch, easily.

SUVs can be boring to begin with, so we loved the idea of an in-your-face package like the R/T with a Hemi, with all blacked out trim, black chrome interior bits, and a big, bold color. This has the Blacktop package, so the wheels and side mirrors are black, the contrast looks pretty terrific against the exterior we chose.

We originally we're shopping Octane Red, it's kind of the "hot" color right now (see lots of small SAVs in that color), you know, the darker, +almost+ shifting into burgundy-ish type red - I really started digging the more red-red (Redline), it's a 2-stage pearl coat like Octane - plus all the other red highlights (all the interior stitching, etc.) match the Redline. The wife didn't care too much, just loved the overall look of the R/T (new for ‘18 it has the front, rear, over fenders and the awesome ducted/vented hood of the SRT).

Funny how this came together, we're headed OOT, and found this DDRT at a dealer on the way to our destination (Universal)!

So we're drove our "trade", the T4R which was really just a dealer buy since we're not applying any money from it, picking up the new ride, loading it up, continuing on our trip :D

So the new ride ...

'18 DD R/T Redline Pearl
AWD
Tech
Tow
Blacktop
Capt's Chairs

Redline with black interior. Funny enough my car is black with a red interior ... and the interior option is called Redline (it was meant to be :D)

Only got about an hour driving it (highway) but extremely pleased so far. It’s currently just hanging out in the parking garage at the resort while we relax at the pool with some tasty beverages

Nice choice! How are you liking it so far?

The newer Durango's look to be a nice cross-section of great styling inside and out (especially with the higher trim levels), nice features/options all around, and practical for a family (3rd row seating) - all at a decent price point. I have a JGC so I'm a little bias towards Dodge and Jeep, but I've liked the styling of the latest gen Durango ever since it came out.
