There's a ton of leftover 18 Accords out there. I'm sure he could get a sweet deal on one of those.

I also didnt mention but i want a manual. I absolutely love driving a manual and have forever as a Civic was my very first car and I miss it.

We also have a Tesla in the family so I want something with good MPG but fun to drive as a daily driver. Kids are very young but you are right. I may have to go test the new Civics. I prefer a hatchback with the kids as well.

Si I assume is still the better model to get?

I noticed that but in certain pricing it seems the accord is almost $10k more then a civic so.

The main reason for this change is to be economical, fun daily driver, reliable vehicle for the family.

I’ll have to shop around though it seems. Prefer the styling of the civic a tad more then the new accords as well but do love the space the accord offers. The new civics look bigger though so need to go on a couple test drives.

I think the accord has a significantly nicer interior than the civic in terms of quality. The civic uses a lot of hard plastic and just feels very cheap. I’m not a huge fan of Toyota sedans, they’re a little more conservative than Honda, but I find their interiors to be a bit nicer.

Honda uses CVTs more frequently than Toyota- but if you’re going with a manual I guess you don’t have to worry about that. I’m not a fan of how most CVTs drive and long term reliability tends to be a problem. Honda’s also tend to use timing belts which is another long term maintanence cost. One thing I can’t stand about Honda’s generally speaking is the unrefined nature of their 4cyl engines. They’re loud and sound awful. Maybe this has changed with their newer turbo engines which I haven’t driven- but I’m guessing the 1.5t engine isn’t particuarly refined like most ultra low displacement engines.

I’m not suggesting not buying a Honda, they do make solid vehicles. If I were you I’d also take a look at Subaru’s. They make great cars and if you live in a climate with snow the standard AWD is great to have. I don’t think their reliability is quite at the level of Honda or Toyota but they seem to have great longevity. I’d say the biggest gripes I have with them is their relative low power in some models. They do use CVTs a lot however they’re programmed to feel more like an automatic. They do offer manual transmissions which is nice, but the options tend to be limited on manual models.

Difference between them shouldn't be that large. You can get into an Accord 1.5T 6MT for ~$24,000; same as a Civic Si

I have found some Accords from 2018 but with the 1.5 and would vastly prefer the 2.0 sport if I was going manual and that large a vehicle but would probably need to drive both to see the difference/feel

Subaru’s are quirky cars. Their mileage is actually quite a bit better these days... 32/38 in the Impreza 2.0 with the CVT automatic. Not bad especially considering the AWD. The manual is rated at 27/32. It’s pretty common for CVTs to be rated mpg than manuals these days. A buddy of mine has an Impreza 5-door and we were getting 36mpg cruising at 80mph. I know older models didn’t fare as well.

The Accord in particuar feels like a much more modern car than the Subarus and I think you’ll like the interior more than the Civic. That said I can understand the savings aspect.

Yes, again, Subaru’s have quirky styling. I’d call their look very “utilitarian”. Living in New England they are everywhere and I presume it’s primarily because of their AWD. I’d also agree their interiors generally are not quite on the level of the other Japanese brands, again being a bit utilitarian. I do prefer however prefer their tighter ride than Honda and particuarly Toyota, which tend to be more comfort oriented. The Impreza compared to the Corolla and Civic IMO feels like a much more substantial vehicle. Subaru’s do have a bit engine noise but it sounds far better than the ruckus the Civics I’ve experienced which are very loud under power and just make an awful buzzy scream.

As for Subaru reliability, I don’t think they’re on the level of Honda or Toyota. Toyota pretty much rules that game. It’s my observation that people get long longevity from Subarus, but at the same time to have more problems than the other Asian brands. On the other hand I think Subarus asethicslly age better and hold up better due to their utilitarian materials.

I agree the Accord has become a very large car. I too have found the Civics seats uncomfortable and the ride to be not that great. I know a number of people with Civics and they all agree they’re pretty terrible in the snow. At least the Accord has a little more weight to provide some traction to the front wheels.

I have owned 2 Civics in the past and they are super fun to drive with a manual. Now i havent driven a manual in about 10 years but I have been craving a little more fun to throw around and add to our family of cars. I thoroughly enjoy what i have seen from the Accord interior but it is too much of a sedan for my liking and not so much....fun?

Plus again the savings. So I have moved on to 100% a Civic but now I noticed they have about 5 trims, hatchbacks and sedans now.

I see the sport which i love the look of with the hatchback but have read it is the most unenthused of the lines with the weakest engine, weird.

The SI sounds like the top choice for fun factor/engine build and options outside of the R which is not an option for me...but not hatchback

So now I need to decide weaker manual Sport model and get a hatch or the more ethused/fun engine and settle for the SI Sedan.

Sport also is much cheaper i have found.

This is what i am reading.

Now I am finding a 1.5T 2018 Accord brand new for the near the price of a Civic SI so now the Accord seems back in play as I can get a turbo and a manual as well with the nicer interior and more room. May try to find a 2.0T though but that's about 5k more and not sure if worth it.

Went yesterday and ended up with...an Accord!

Got a 2018 that was still on the lot and got a fantastic chunk off the ticket since they rolled in a bunch of 2019s on the lot.
Got the exact configuration I liked:
1.5 turbo
Manual
Gunmetal steel gray
Sport trim

I test drive a Civic and while fun it was not practical for a family of 4 and also only saved about $100 per month on a payment for the trim I was looking at.

First time seeing the new Accords up close and personal on the test drive and WOW!

Interiors is so amazing and spacious, clean, and great look and feel for the price point.
New outside design is fantastic and Audi like with the fast back. Love the look.

Extremely happy and glad I was able to get an ‘18 at such a good deal.

I love to drive this thing. In comparison I have 2 Tesla’s as well and man I love a nicely tuned manual and that feel of driving again. So happy with this redesign and what Honda did with this vehicle.

First car was a 1996 Civic coupe that I learned manual on and created my love for Honda’s. This clutch/manual is sooooo smooth easy to drive in comparison.
