Yes. In the general sense that Sedans are FWD RWD and AWD sedans aren't commonsake in the modern days

My sedan is AWD.....

My sedan is AWD as well.

Nearly every "sports sedan" or luxury sedan is either RWD or AWD, with a few exceptions. In "modern days", there are far more AWD sedans than there ever were. In fact, AWD sedans is a relatively new conception, only becoming a mainstream option in the early 2000's. There were a few here and there before then, but not many.

I think we should switch to British conventions period when it comes to cars here. Hood = Bonnet. Trunk = Boot. Battery = Accumulator. Dashboard = Fascia. Transmission = Gearbox. Gas = Petrol. Wagon = Estate. Windshield = Windscreen. Convertible = Drop Head. Etc. All "carburetors" must be read as "carburettor"
Battery = battery; dashboard = dashboard; convertible = convertible.

No idea where you've got 'accumulator' from. 'Fascia' is brochure speak for 'obscenely expensive dashboard crafted from the White Tree of Gondor and whale penis leather'. 'Drophead' only sounds right when applied to a vehicle that's at least sixty years old, preferably British Racing Green, and ideally being driven by either Terry Thomas or Jimmy Edwards.

What? This is a bunch of crap. All FWD cars have diffs.

Actually ALL cars have diffs. That's how the power gets from the transmission to the wheels.

And wtf is this? AWD sedans aren't "common sake?" What year am I in? 1995?

Entire Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Subaru lineups have AWD and each brand has tons of sedans. What kind of crap are you spewing today?

Also, what is this "ass-end" terminology?

We're mature adults. It's RWD or rear wheel drive.
"Ass-end" sounds like something a hill billy or red neck would say.

I've really been waiting for a Cayman AWD myself. Are they too afraid of cannibalizing sales?
Yeah. Seems to be the case. They want everyone to buy the 911, which isn't fair.

Makes no sense because Porsche recently came out with a GT3 Jr., which is the Cayman GT4.

The Cayman is Porsche's worst selling model in the US. If they added a simple AWD system, they'd sell tons.

Now what I really want to see is a Cayman Turbo 4. Basically a smaller 911 Turbo, but mid engined with manual transmission!

Hahahha I love this post. I believe the the alternator would also be referred to as a generator? I'm going off mid 20th century language.

Yes to everything you said! Yeah, it's the continued Porsche mindset of not letting anything eclipse the 911. The GT4 seems amazing, but TT variant? Wooo!

I guess you (and everyone) has heard about Porsche moving to FI on _all_ 911 models. I'm kind of hoping that by creating more of a power gap between the Boxster/Cayman and the 911, it lets the former slip up into the next power segment (and potentially offer AWD).

Pic for fun :)

Yup. I don't need near 600hp like the 991 Turbo. Maybe 450hp with AWD. That sounds perfect!

I don't get this Porsche mindset. The customizability on their models is unlike any other brand out there. Why not add AWD to the mix? Surely, the R&D costs are minimal? No? Even if they gave us AWD, it probably won't be faster than a 911 anyways. Maybe if you add the turbos.

Unlike most of the Porsche guys on rennlist having a meltdown over an all-FI 911 lineup, I'm all for it. Modern FI engines are just fantastic. Porsche has proven to us that they know what they're doing. Hopefully, this does expand the gap between the models, so the Cayman can get more power and AWD.

In addition to the 911 FI lineup, the base Cayman and Boxster are also getting a turbo flat-4 because the current flat-6 is rather anemic. Can't wait to drive these!
Pic for fun :)

I'm such a huge Porsche fanboy :) Sapphire Blue is the perfect color for this car! My phone wallpaper is this car too.

Since we're talking about Caymans...

Jeebus. I'm getting a little, umm, worked up, over that interior shot :D

Yeah, that's right around what I was thinking it terms of peak power, and with the HUGE increase in available power across the RPM range.

It doesn't even look like AWD adds that much weight, I checked the RWD vs. AWD of a couple of 911 model variants (Like CS vs. C4S), and it was generally around 80-85lbs (with my assumption that most other things stayed the same).

It's weird, I used the think the Cayman looked like an ugly hardtop Boxster, but now it looks like a better looking 911 [to me].

Whoever specced that car did a great job with the contrasting.

Yeah, that's right around what I was thinking it terms of peak power, and with the HUGE increase in available power across the RPM range.

That's exactly what I was thinking. More usable power with a flatter torque curve of a FI motor.

I wonder if there is some engineering setback due to the mid-engined chassis?

The car's center of gravity is pretty low currently. Adding an additional drive shaft to the front wheels + AWD electronics might raise the center of mass and change the entire design of the car?

Hopefully, the next-gen Boxster/Cayman incorporate AWD from the start.

It's weird, I used the think the Cayman looked like an ugly hardtop Boxster, but now it looks like a better looking 911 [to me].
Me too! The 987 Cayman was always ugly. Never warmed up to the design. The 981 looks fantastic.

But it's also hard to ignore the 991. The proportions are great. Not one bad angle in the design.

Yes, Porsches... mmm. I just don't know if I want to spend that much yet on my fun car, but for a while I had a Cayman S at the top of my list.
It's worth every penny! :)

Friend of mine has a Z4 M Roadster. I liked how it felt (putting the tail out) but man, I felt like I was going to give myself a concussion every time I got in if the roof was up... and I had a TT-S.

I've had the most recent Z4 hardtop as a loaner before. With the top up, it's comfortable, but not nearly as spacious as a TT-S. The TT feels much more cavernous for some reason.

Im all things Porsche. My car is just meeting the prerequisite to becoming a Porsche owner down the line. Next will be an Audi, I'm thinking the new S3.

Here's my car as it sits:

In my head I'm trying to equate 4dr golf with Porsche and the only similarity I can come up wth is they're both German.

Well Porsche are part of the Volkswagen Auto Group. The GTI specifically is really the entry car into becoming a VAG enthusiasts. Most go from VW to Audi then on to Porsche.

For those that are unaware, Volkswagen owns Seat, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti.

That's not to say I envision owning a Lamborghini later in my life (would be nice), but a Porsche is a much more attainable and plausible goal.

I was in VW enthusiast in 1990. If you insist that people step from VW FE FWD to Audi FE FWD/AWD to Porsche mostly RE RWD who am I to argue.

Well i'll retract my statement in saying most do, when that's false.

Some enthusiasts do, and I am just that. An enthusiast.

I want to try out the AWD Quattro systems that Audi offer but I don't think i'll ever get into a Porsche 4. That will be RWD.

It's fine I'm glad you like your VW and Audi's are nice cars though a bit over hyped IMHO I just can't make the steps you made. I've had both VW's (Mk1 GTI, Mk2 GTI, Corrado G60) and Porsches (924, 944T, and 914) and raced a 993 in the mid 90's at Mid Ohio. They're all nice cars all very different and all very German and all of which I'd own again particularly the 944T and the Mk2 GTI.

Mine isn't much to look at, and come to think of it, I just realized I don't even have any pictures of it. It's a red Golf R. And a little dirty. I did just pick up some detailing equipment this morning. Probably will take a picture or two after I wash it.

Those are cool classic looking Porsche's. I love Corrado's and I absolutely LOVE Mk2's.

I do agree Audi are overhyped but I just love the design of them. I'm not a huge fan of BMW, though they make excellent vehicles. But those are insanely priced.
