Sorry Cassie but it would appear that you're stuffed. ;)

Unfortunately the version of Handbrake you have doesn't support this option.

Well, shoot.

Although the thought just occurred to me that I could probably use FairMount and transfer the "DVD" to my external HDD, where I could then use a current version of Handbrake from my Mac mini to rip it, then transfer that back to my iBook... (The mini doesn't have an optical drive, so it wasn't the first thing that came to my mind.)

That's how I did it the first time. FairMount then copied the files in the Video_TS folder to another computer and used Handbrake on that.

You took the drive out of the mini?

Ok, I'm running 10.4 and can only use Handbrake 0.9.1...

I don't see a "(Title specific) Open source" option... Am I out of luck, or am I missing something obvious...

The main title on my disk was title 30. I imagine that your disk is the same. When in doubt, just play the DVD in the Mac OS X DVD player and, while watching the main feature, right-click on the video and see what title is playing.

You can encode title 30 easily with the HandBrakeCLI. This assumes you use the AppleTV preset. Look here for more help with the HandBrakeCLI.

Code:
HandBrakeCLI -i /Volumes/DVD -o movie.mp4 -t 30 --preset="AppleTV"

Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! This Works!

I am in the process of ripping my copy of The Dark Knight with Handbrake now. I was having problems too but the forums on the handbrake website helped me.

Basically File --> Open Source (Title Specific) then type Title "1" should be good to go. I followed those instructions from the handbrake website and I'm in the process of ripping it as we speak. So here's to hoping!

So I read this guy's post... and (having the latest version of HB) I tried exactly what he said. -Proud to say that I am at this moment ripping The Dark Knight for my iPod Touch enjoyment! Sweet!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU HANDBRAKE!!!

yes I know...my friend with Nero could not do it either....we wanted a copy to save from the kids scratching the original...which they do often!!
bummer....

Hi folks,

So I bought the cheaper version of DK b/c i didn't want the special features, but of course, their 'digital copy' came with the more expensive version.

I figured I'd HB it and be good to go.

wrong.

mtr nor hb will work. hb just keep trying to read it and mtr reads it, but the go button is not hilighted.

bummer.

mac the ripper 3

Is it worth getting MTR 3~It is no longer freeware...is everybody doing fine with version 2 or is another ripper available>?

Toast 8 Or 9?

Is anybody using the 9? I have been using 8 and love it...no problems and no glitches...is it worth updgrading to 9?
I see the 10 is coming out this month....what do they do better?:p

Some good information in here guys thanks !

The handbrake method is good, but what if I wanted to make an exact copy of the DVD ?

Would Fairmount make a VIDEO_TS folder for me to copy ?

Why would you convert it to an MP4 and then try to burn that on a DVD?

If you're wanting to make a backup of The Dark Knight, use a program called Fairmount. This will decrypt the DVD and allow you to use a program like Toast or Disk Utility to burn it.

Oh i see. Okay i'll try fairmount

So fairmount finished and says Fair Disk is Mounted. What do i do next?

You should see The Dark Knight mounted on your desktop. If not, go into Finder and you should see it on the left.

Open up the mounted content and you should see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder. You can now create a folder on your desktop called The Dark Knight and then copy the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders into it.

Once the folders are copied over, use the created folder as a source when burning it to DVD.

Trying that now.. hopefully this solves all my problems lol

I guess it couldn't be this easy

Used Fairmount. Mounted to my desktop i dragged both folders to a new folder i created. I open Dtox and i get this error message: Creating image failed.:/Users/hanner/Desktop/Dark Knight/VIDEO_TS/Dark Knight.img

2nd i tried Toast and the whole computer freezes trying to get the dark knight files onto toast

I've never used Dtox, so I can't help you with that.

What version of Toast do you have? I have Toast 8, so if you have a version around that, it should be pretty similar. Make sure you have VIDEO_TS Folder selected under the Video tab. On the right side, click the Select button and locate your copied VIDEO_TS folder.

If this is what you did... is this where it's freezing up?

okay i didnt have the video ts selected on the left side. Now i see that the file size is to big. The Use fit-to-dvd video compression is checked. The file is 7.23GB.. is that all i need to do?

Okay i tried it and it started but then just quitted and shut itself. I re opened it and went to hit settings and it froze a little then closed itself?

complicated geez!

Yeah i've made it complicated! We can just write it off as a lost cause. Thanks for ur help anyways
