According to iFixit, it's a mechanical design, rather than the non-moving haptic feedback versions used in the current MBPs and Magic Trackpad.

Right, it's feel presently is different in every way. I personally would have been happier if it was the same as the laptops. But if they can just match sensitivity, i'll go back to using it. It just sort of looks like another example of them not committing 100% into this. Getting close though. Maybe 95% now. Go for it. :D

But most people will not be effected by this. The trackpad is probably normal. It's just that the MacBook touchpads are so above and beyond, and you get used to it. The AMK's trackpad works fantastic in most ways, just is not as sensitive as the Macbook ones. It's also possible that the trackpad constuction is exactly the same, except for the lack of haptic, and just needs a software utility.

But this RSI thing is strange. I get this mild numbness in the surface of my hands that makes me want to rub them. Almost like the feeling when a limb goes to sleep (tingling). It's mild, but would almost certainly progress to something more than just discomfort. Touch screens did it, so I have to limit that. Trackpads also, except the MacBooks eliminate the issue.

This rant is to deaf ears probably. Then again, maybe lots of people suffer this?

Try turning Switch Control off in Accessibility settings.

Mine has always been off but I'll see this outline in different places when using a mouse or Trackpad 2. And it's intermittent as to occurrence. I'm not using the Magic Keyboard - this is in a standard folio case.

After hemming and hawing on whether to get the new magic keyboard, I finally took the plunge and it finally arrived. I'm impressed. It feels so natural to have this be an extension of the iPad experience.

The keys feel so solid to type on. And lap use is terrific. I love how easy it is to just pull the iPad off and use it in tablet mode.

I'm really confused about the weight complaints. While it feels solid, it's not heavy.

It's amazing how in a few short years, the iPad has become my new favorite daily device. It really does adapt well to every use case.

Is there a way to forward delete on the Magic Keyboard for the iPad ?

There is no “FN” key like on the MacBook etc., so i cannot use FN+Delete to forward delete.

I cancelled my 12.9 MK ordered placed last night. After being super careful and seeing how easily the SKF got fingerprints I can't remove, I can't imagine the MK faring any better. I'll reconsider if they change the material for MK2. Not needing it for work, for now I'll go keyboardless with a Zugu Muse.

Use the Muse with a lightweight keyboard. I have this one for light travel (and the Muse) -

thanks @sparksd ... that's a nice keyboard, but I don't need to travel with my ipad. My Mac keyboard and mouse and the soft keyboard works just fine for now. It's hard not to get caught up in the enthusiasm for ordering the latest and greatest even when the need isn't there.

I don’t know if anyone have this annoying bug, but for those using the zoom accessibility feature, do you have a bug with scrolling when zoom is enabled when scrolling with the trackpad ? After 2-3 days, it doesn’t scroll anymore when zoom in if I scroll with the trackpad and I have to reboot each time to resolve this.

I've tried searching this forum but I'm so disconbobulated I probably can't find the answer. I just unboxed my new iPad Magic Keyboard and the caps key is not working. It switches between "keyboards" (English and TYpeit4Me) instead of engaging the caps lock. I checked the settings and the caps lock key is set to -- caps lock. This behavior persists in both Pages and other apps and after a restart. What do I do now? Am I doing something wrong or is it defective?

ETA: Got it to work! While on hold with Apple engineering! I deleted the TypeIt4Me keyboard and now the caps lock key works as it's supposed to. So glad I didn't sent this keyboard back.

I’m about to buy the new 11 inch space grey iPad Pro 2020 with the magic keyboard.

In France, it wouldn’t be delivered before may 22th due to the quarantine... 😔

Can someone tells me what the globe key do please ? Does this brings up the virtual keyboard ?
It is set to bring up emojis (kinda dumb, dontcha think?). But you can reconfigure it to do a few other limited things, including make it an Escape key, which is what I did. See this article: https://www.macrumors.com/guide/ipad-pro-magic-keyboard-tips/ But I agree that the globe key should allow for any configuration you want — ”global” customization, so to speak. (You can also get to emojis by pressing <control - space bar>) Maybe a future update will give us more functionality for that globe.

Has anyone gone from Smart Folio keyboard to the magic keyboard? I notice I use the iPad a lot but flipping the smart folio back, its so easy to grab it, flip it back and start using the ipad. The new magic keyboard can't do that, so for anyone who has made the switch isn't removing it from the case each time annoying, or is it no big deal?

try pressing the globe key and delete or Control + D

Thanks for this, I have been forward deleting with globe+delete (which brings up the emoji at the same time) ...didnt know about Control+D

This is on folio keyboard but it seems to be the same.

I had similar problems with third party software keyboards changing key functions on the hardware keyboard.

What actually happens if you plug a usb-c charger into the regular port while the ipad is connected to the magic keyboard?....mine shows the lightning bolt..

also, quick question, when i try to use the command keys for getting the shortcut tips, the response is VERY slow...on both the left and right CMD keys...anyone experience this?

I believe this is intentional. It's a 'press and hold' trigger. Not just a press trigger.

Received my 11" MK today - albeit still don't have my 2020 Pro. Tried it for an hour with a family member's 2018 Pro, however.

I love it. The size of the keyboard is great, I thought it'd be too cramped but it's completely fine. The weight with the 11" iPad is not that bad, and it feels just... "magic" to use!

I bought it to supplement my MBP as a travel device, but can easily see this becoming my go-to main device, especially if pro apps and full external monitor support are coming this year. When I am able, I much prefer using iPadOS to macOS. For simple tasks, it's way quicker. It feels so beautifully compact, and has assuaged any lingering 11" vs 12.9" doubts I had in the back of my mind.

For me the iPad is way too heavy and not confortable to use in tablet mode with the Smart Keyboard folio on the back. I prefer to use the magic keyboard and just take out the iPad when I want to use it on tablet mode. Its so easy to do and more confortable to use. If I really want a case when using as a tablet I just put it in on my regular folio case but 90% of the time I just use my iPad naked when using it as a tablet and have the magic keyboard case close to it to put it back in when finished.

I got a 2nd MK for another 12.9 iPad in my family, and the hinge is much easier to open and close than the first. It’s still strong, but it’s easier to manipulate.

That is exactly me. I have very often used the Smart Keyboard like that. I have had the MK for two days, and I’m not sure yet if I will keep it. I’m experimenting with how I can use the MK so it can fit into my previous “workflow.” After trying several things, what I have settled on is to always keep the MK open, except when moving the iPad around. So, if I sit on the sofa, and want to use the iPad as tablet, I just take it off the MK and leave the MK open next to me. Then, when I want to switch back to laptop, I just attach it to the MK. This works, and is more convenient than using the SKF folded back (iPad as tablet is much nicer naked). It does not work, of course, if there is no place to put the MK, like when you’re standing. But I have observed that is rare for me. It takes quite a while to figure out of the net result is positive or negative.

But here is the thing: the MK is unbelievably nice to type on, including using the trackpad. Amazing. It’s such a delight to type! And it is very stable on a lap. So, I want to keep it if I can fit it into my way of using the iPad.

In the end, I think the only way to find out is to get the MK and try while you can still return it, if the pros outweigh the cons.

I just got my magic keyboard for my 11inch 2018 Ipp and i freaking love it.

Kudos for apple for that hinge.
keybaord fells like my MacBook Air. Build quality is great, still afraid of getting a unit with the battery drain.
We will see if i get any sort of drain.
apple should really streamline the keyboard and trackpad settings and get a function row.
