why do you give me an engadget link? you said that what i said was 'from' it? i dont know what youre talking about

What kind of browser/device are you using? Apparently it is not displaying the quote from Engadget which someone kindly reposted for you:

"Quote:
There's a 30-pin dock connector on the bottom that allows for HDMI, USB, and docking accessories"

I know you're a newbie and all, but "Thanks" is generally considered more polite than "I don't know what you're talking about." The latter is kind of self-evident in any case.

Apple took a deep breath and were the first company to kind of step into the tablet market seriously and, they set the ball rolling. It's funny how all the other companies are diving on the bandwagon now in fear of another market take-over like they did with the iPhone when they basically revolutionised 'The mobile phone'....

I agree and I've been thinking about this lately. When the iPad was introduced last January, immediately 1001 threads popped up all over the internet containing terms like 'iFail' or 'iSuck'. We were treated to a couple of months of middle-school feminine-hygiene jokes. Even regulars at Apple-friendly sites like this were fretting that this time Steve Jobs has really lost his mind.

But it wasn't just that. There were also the detailed discussions by gadget freaks pointing out that:

a. Apple didn't invent the tablet computer.
b. This device is crippled from Day 1.
c. Look how terrible that design is -- it's too big/small/heavy/fat/thin, and that bezel is stupid, and they're lying about battery life, and there's no USB/Firewire/Ethernet/S100/whatever ports, and did we mention NO FLASH?
d. Apple thinks we're all idiots and we'll pay money for this piece of crap.

Remember the chart that was making the rounds for a while negatively comparing the specs of the iPad to some HP tablet released several years ago (which apparently vanished without a trace), which had more of everything and was therefore better -- similar to the spec-sheet game being played now with the unseen Samsung.

And yet now, as Ashley says, just half a year later, everybody in the business is rushing frantically to push out an iPad competitor. And the killer thing is, they all look just like the iPad, with its stupid design and all that. Some of them even have "pad" in the name. Looking back, the whole drama seems almost predictable. (In fact, I think David Pogue did predict in the NY Times in his first column after the product announcement.) And in the meantime there are more and more iPads out there in the world every day, and some kind of product refresh well along in the planning stage, at least.

thank you and continue to buy apple products and support corporate America so we can live in the grievous west, plan more false flag operations and take down our world trade center skyscrapers blame it on the east and take over and continue to live in the grievous west.

p.s my kids are going to college :D

A 30 year old virgin who sits in his basement, who obsesses over conspiracy theories (and even contributes to the truther blogs!), does not work for Apple. Maybe if you weren't such a ****ing idiot you would know that the Loose-Change phenomena was based on a fictional screenplay written by Dylan Avert. Philip Jayhan came along and bought the screenplay, Jayhan being a conspiracy theorist who believes the world is run by a massive satanic cult that enslaves politicians through delivering them boys to molest and then blackmailing them later on. You should read Popular Science, it cracks all the bull **** and fake **** conspiracy theorists manipulated and fabricated post 9/11

It'll replace books and notebooks like the calculator replaced learning math. Now, if the register locks up (they're all computer-driven these days) the clerk can't make change. (American students are already in the bottom 25% in math worldwide.)

If we do away with books and notebooks we won't need iPads, because no one will know how to write, so there won't be anything to read.

lol... you still have to write in school, that's not changing any time soon

Pmgo... (Puke my guts out) Then why to we contiue to gradute people from high schools that can't read their diploma ?

Why did the lady with high school ring at the Sonic last week screw up on giving me my change ? Because she didn't have a register that told her how much to give, and she is a forgotten product of a liberal public school system that doesn't punish teachers that don't care. We also have principals and their assistants that don't call students into their offices and have the kids read a couple of paragraphs out loud to them to make sure everyone can read.

My wife is a teacher, and I can tell you that it's not their fault. They care plenty, but have little say in what goes on these days.

A major problem is the "no child left behind" and other programs designed to keep every student moving through the system, whether they actually have learned anything or not. Nowadays, kids are taught to pass tests, and that's it. There's no time for real education.

The result is all around us. All anyone has to do is read one single day's worth of posts around here, to see how illiterate many people are. It's a real shame.

iPad 2011 predictions?

With the smashing success that iPad has been what are you folks expecting for the next iteration to come next year? Some possibilities:

- Front facing camera supporting FaceTime.
- Back facing camera for still photos and HD video (same iPhone 4 or iPod touch?).
- iMovie for the iPad.
- System memory upped to 512MB.
- dual core A4 (Cortex-A9 or other)?
- CPU die shrink to 32nm?
- Possibly a new iPad mini 7" device?

front facing cam for face time
256mb ram
additioinal 7 inch version with 1024x768 res

that is all

I don't think there will be a 2011 iPad. I think iPad will be on a two year cycle.

The iPad should be a two year cycle. Unfortunetly, if additional tablets come out by different companies... apple might have to counter more frequently than every two years.

As an iPad owner, I wouldn't like to see a new iPad in 2011! Though I'm pretty sure there will be one.

everything is possible, i think

I think we need only look to what the competition has on tap to see what will be in the second gen. Front facing camera for sure, increased RAM and probably a faster processor. I wouldn't be surprised to see sone sort of an improved display ( perhaps something that is more readable in direct sunlight). The casing will probably be redesigned. Wouldn't be surprised to see a lighter body (perhaps not metal). The resulting weight reduction could allow for a bigger battery as well.

Frankly, I'm more anxious to see the OS improvements. Clearly the trend is for the ipad to continue to stand more and more on its own rather than relying on a computer to sync.

I think the iPad will be an annual refresh cycle, especially as more and more competitiors come to the market.

Personally though that doesn't mean I'll invest in a refresh. I love my iPad for what it does now and very rarely do I find myself saying "Oh, I wish it did this..". Updated such as gyroscopes and cameras are nice but they're not essential (or even remotely necessary at all) to me, and thus I'm in no rush to upgrade.

My 3G iPhone is still going strong and I think the tablet market is slower than the phone market, and I think the first gen iPad is a more complete device than the iPhone 3G was. I can see my current iPad suiting for my needs for a few years yet :)

Also a retina display is called such because it has more PPI than the eye can see (about 300) 200PPI could not be called a retina display.

Of course it could. Apple called iPhone 4's display "Retina" because the eyes can not see the pixels at a certain viewing distance.

On iPad's larger screen the viewing distance is greater. Hence, you don't need as puch PPI. Even Jobs said that the 300 PPI number was based on a typical smartphone viewing distance. With greater distance, you need less PPI for it to become Retina.

What, you think "300" is just a magical number that vanishes pixels?
