I decided to pick up a new mini to replace my 2014 mini. This mini has been used for the past four years as a family computer and has ran without any problems, and with the nice spec upgrade the new mini should last us at least 5 or 6 years.
Initially I was going to get the base model with updated storage, as I really don’t feel like managing multiple accounts, apps, and media on external drives. So 512GB is a must for me. When I speced out the base mini with this storage I realized it came to only CHF151 (about $150) more than an i5 model with a 512GB SSD. I thought why not spend a little extra, as spread out over the years it’s more than worth it. So I got the i5 with 522GB SSD. It looks like it will take two weeks to get built and make its way to Switzerland.
This machine will probably be overkill for my needs but if it lasts 5, 6, or 7 years it will be worth it. I’ll throw in 32GB of RAM eventually but no rush. I mostly use my 2016 nTB MBP and the rest of the family doesn’t do anything too taxing.
I’m looking forward to it arriving though and to hooking it up to my eGPU. Should be a pretty capable little machine.
