at last

Hi everyone

after following this site for almost a year I finally bought my first mac mini i5 from Amazon uk today.

I had dreamed of a 21" imac but the new spec put me right off and I am delighted with my buy and the thought of leaving microsoft well behind me for the future.

Reading the forums constantly has taken me from a complete novice to a point where I at least know what I wanted for my transition

Thanks guys

Congrats and enjoy your new Mac Mini. Having the Mac Mini as your first Mac should be fine. It's small but can pack adequate power for your needs and you can choose your favorite monitor.

I am on a budget so I am going to use my Optiquest Q22wb monitor to start with.
I am not a high end user so can anyone advise me on what cable I need to purchase to get connected ?

Thanks

Hi H9Danny. You are referring to the cable to hook up your Mini to your monitor? Mac minis usually come with a HDMI to DVi adaptor as part of the sale. You can try using that to connect your Viewsonic monitor's DVi port.

Hi H9-Danny

As far as I know the adaptor mini-display port to VGA is different with the one that will come in the Mac Mini box. You can also use the adaptor you bought at Regent St with your Mac Mini.

Time to Replace the 2006 MBP!

Finally bit the bullet and replaced the MBP with a Mac mini (2.6Ghz, 256Gb SSD, quad core, 4Gb RAM). Have a new AirPort Extreme, Airport Express, wireless keyboard and touchpad and SuperDrive coming too. Also two 4Tb g-tech hard drives, and 16Gb Kingston RAM from Amazon.

This should be a screaming system, and easily accommodate multiple peeps using the system. I've lots of videos, music and songs to keep track of.

Replacing a worn out 17" MBP (with a failed DVD drive, 4Gb RAM and 160Gb HD, and broken screen), a first generation 2Tb Time Capsule and Airport Express.

Should be good for another decade. will post pics when installed and working fine.

I got my Mini in yesterday, it's the base model (late 2012). I mainly got it for video editing and audio editing for my podcast, also because I'm completely burned out on Windows.

It's my first Mac and using it yesterday was the most I've ever used a Mac. I'm impressed so far, I've been so used to Windows that this is an almost alien experience. I'm currently trying to teach myself a good bit of it, mainly by just digging around the menus.

Got a notification yesterday that the Mac Mini refurbs were back in stock. So I went for it and got the 2.3GHz i7 model to replace my mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro. I will be purchasing RAM and upgrading it to 16GB as well. Really excited to have a new Mac!

Anyone recently bought a CTO mini online in the UK?

Looking for estimated delivery times.

Mac mini speed.Wow!

I just got my Mac mini delivered today by ups. This machine is incredibly fast!
I am coming from a 2010 MacBook Pro i5 2.4 1tb hard drive and 8gb memory.
I set my time machine up to copy my files over, took about 3 hours. I plugged in my external western digital 3.0 hard drive, where I have all my iTunes movies and OMG my movies open super fast. Last night I used handbrake on my 2010 MacBook Pro to copy the adventures. It took 12 hours to copy. Just today I did the same movie with my Mac mini. 3hours and 26 minutes to copy. This little machine is very powerfull! While running handbrake the fan on the mini kicks in preatty loud, but I could run VMware fusion and open my iPhoto's all at the same time. There was no way I could do this on my old MacBook Pro. The specs for my mini are the quad core 2.6 with the fusion drive and I installed 16gb of corsair vengance that I bought at amazon. Thanks for all the great info every has given me here i am a happy camper with my new mini.

Here is a picture of my set up.

Just got my i7 2.3 yesterday. Experienced crazy color issues hdmi-hdmi...went MDP-hdmi and it's much better, but still off. i'm also experiencing a flicker combined with a row of snow on the bottom of the screen once every couple hours it seems. research has shown these along with the previously fixed hdmi black screen problems seem very widespread so i hope the remaining issues are worked out b/c i really like this machine.

Thats strange. I just hooked up a second led monitor via HDMI and i am not having any issues. So far so good. I hooked up the second monitor so i could run windows 8 via vmware fusion. Runs great! even while handbreak is running.

Sounds great Jillian! I'm quite envious because I picked up the mini and peripherals today but can't do anything until the hard rice shows up. anticipation is a killer!!

Sold my mid-2010 13" MBP and bought the late-2012 i5 Mac mini and replaced the HDD to Samsung 840 SSD.

It's a little speed demon :)

I just ordered a refurbished 2.3 i7 mini to replace my early 2008 MBP. I'll be using it for Aperture, Photoshop Elements, and Logic. I lusted after a 15" rMBP or a 27" iMac, but for my hobbyist needs, it came down to $679 vs. $2,000+, and common sense prevailed. I have a monitor and keyboard, and my MBP spends most of its time in clamshell mode, so a mini will be great for my needs.

I also ordered a 2.3 i7 refurb mac mini last night. I've waited a month for apple to put them back in the refurb store. I just looked and they are already gone again.

I went months after my 24 inch imac died. I don't know how I did it. I really want to get my imac up and working again, but I think the GPU is dead. :(

Just bought a Mac Mini 2.6 i7.. SSD and ram question

Just purchased the i7 2.6 refurbished for $759.. want to put in a 256 SSD and 16GB of ram.. I use lightroom most of the time so I am hoping for a nice speed increase over my 5 year old windows Q6600 machine.. Has anyone use OWC installation service.. figured for $99 let them install the SSD and ram since I was buying the parts from them anyways.. or maybe i'll get adventurous and do the install myself.. any suggestion on SSD and ram?

just bought a base model 2012 mini, upgraded it to 16gb ram and 256 ssd. Man this is such a great machine :)

Just sold my mba 11 as i never hardly used after getting an ipad, only used the mba for printing and converting videos for my ipad...
Anyway got £700 for my 2011 mba, and will get a mac mini for under my tv to use as my main pc for videos, photos, downloading and printing..
Just trying to find the base mac mini for £450 before i bite the bullet, the uk refurb store is awful rarely any deals

Just put an order in for a 2.6 i7 MM with the 1TB HDD along with 16GB Kingston RAM and a 256GB Sammy SSD to be added by the retailer.

I will be driving my late 2009 27" iMac using Target Display Mode. I've given up on trying to do any work with Lightroom/Aperture and photo editing on the iMac because of the constant freezes and crashes and this was the main reason for getting the Mini. And it means that I can use the iMac for iWork type stuff and syncing the iPad leaving the MM to be a dedicated photo workstation.

Can't wait.

Hello all.... this isn't my first post, but I am a long time set up lurker and Windows user. However, I finally upgraded and made the switch to OSX. I got the base 2012 Mac Mini! I am so happy and I will never go back to Windows again!
