Yeah. As long as its on par with my 2009 MVP battery wise ill be fine. Also, I rather like the current design, especially how you can swap the ODD for a SAD or HDD

I just pulled the trigger on a base 13" i5/2.4Ghz with 4GB or RAM and the 500GB HDD. Picked up from B&H so no tax and free shipping. While I was at it, was able to get Apple Care for only $95 and a free copy of Parallels 7. Now just need to order 8GB of RAM (or maybe 16).

Now the waiting begins...tick, tock, tick, tock.

ordered a new macbook pro 15" with 8gb of ram. should be here on monday. the anticipation is killing me.

I'm not 100% sure (so please anyone correct me) but I think that the 13'' model can only go up to 8GB of RAM. Only the 15'' and 17'' models are upgradeable to 16 GB. Nice purchase btw!

Thanks, Rockoar. When I looked at Crucial's site, they state that the 13 can actually support 16GB. We'll see though if I actually go that route. I don't exactly run a ton of VMs so I'm not sure if it's really worth it right now.

What's driving me nuts though are the rumors that just came out about the new 13 and 15 MBPs being shipped to Apple. Should I deny delivery and hold out?! I kinda need a laptop now and waiting another month or two may not be feasible.

*sigh*

Just got my late 2011 13" MBP and though it's not terribly different from my newly retired BlackBook, I do like the differences - like the quietness of the SSD, the backlight keyboard, much longer battery and the bump in speed.

I must say I was pretty disappointed with the whole Migration Assistant process. None of my music or documents transferred. But it's all set up now :)

Just wanted to post up on here that i ordered my new MacBook Pro 15" last week and it should be with me by the end of the week (hopefully!)!

Here's the spec;
15-inch MacBook Pro

2.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200
8x Double-Layer SuperDrive
MBP 15" HR Antiglare WS Dspl

AppleCare

I've ordered 16GB RAM for it from Crucial which arrived a couple of days ago, and i'm waiting on the delivery of a Corsair Force 3 240GB SSD at the moment! :D

I'm tempted to put the 750GB HDD in the Optical Drive bay as a secondary HDD, but still contemplating it at the moment.

Super excited doesn't come close!

I had a White MacBook for over 4 years, and it was my first Mac and it was brilliant, so thought i'd spend a substantial amount this time and get something to last me a good few years.

Will post up when it's actually here! :D

Well it arrived late last week and it's an absolute monster! I can't believe how fast it was with the standard 4GB RAM and the 750GB 7200rpm drive, let alone the 16GB RAM and SSD it now has in it!

I ran some benchmarks and it scored 11773 using Geekbench in 64-bit mode.

It installed Lion from a USB drive in 12 minutes which is crazy, as on my MacMini with a 240GB SSD it took around 20 minutes.

That new laptop smell (really)

Here's my first impression of my refurbished 15" MBP. You know that "new car smell," that aroma of fresh metal and plastic you experience when you step into a new car? That was the aroma I smelled when the guy at the Apple Store took my laptop out of the box, removed the plastic wrapper, and opened it the first time. I've never noticed that in all the Windows laptops I've ever had. It must be the difference between getting a plastic laptop and an aluminum one.

He then helped me through the setup process and gave me a brief overview of how to use my Mac. Even though I spent a lot of time learning about OS X while I was waiting for the unit to arrive, it was still a little intimidating using it on my own computer. It hasn't taken me long though the find my way around. I've even found a few shortcuts on my own that I hadn't heard of before (like I can switch between full-screen apps with the keyboard by pressing Control+Arrow Key).

The first thing I did when I brought my MBP home is update all the software. It shipped with 10.7, and I ran software update to bring it up to 10.7.3. This also enabled me to update iPhoto.

So far, I'm very happy with my MBP. I'm planning to install software and then migrate data from my Windows laptop this weekend. (It's supposed to rain here this weekend, so it will give me something to do. :))

I need a new laptop as soon as possible, but if the new Pros are going to have higher resolution displays then I'll wait. Anymore word on this? Otherwise I'm going to get the current 17" MBP.

Did you happen to buy the refurb from the applestore? It's so hard to come across that model in the refurb store. I'm happy, but also jealous you got it :p

I bought it online and picked it up at the Apple Store. I bought the Early 2011 model, which they don't have anymore. Last time I checked, they have the Late 2011 in the 4/500 configuration.

Another place to check is MicroCenter. They carry older and resale Macs at good discounts.

Good luck with your search.

I had been planning to wait and see what the next revision looked like before replacing my early 2008 MBP, but yesterday, I suddenly found myself firmly in the "need a new computer now" camp when my machine failed to power on. As there is nothing that could cause the symptom that would be worth paying to repair at this stage in the computer's life, I pulled out my old 2004 PowerBook (which I'm posting from now) and ordered the top-of-the-line late 2011 model, refurbished. Barring unexpected FedEx delay, it will arrive tomorrow.

Fortunately, my last backup was only about a day before the machine died, so I should be in good shape as far as recovering data goes.

I already miss trackpad scrolling.

excited

Ordered a 15" MBP via BH Photo Video mostly due to the discounted AppleCare plan. After endless deliberation and multiple trips to the local Apple store, opted for the hi-res anti-glare display with some reservation (i.e. middle aged eyesight concerns). But B&H's 30 day return took the heat off. For me, a self employed contractor working with content management d-bases, alot of spreadsheet work, ProTools audio editing, some video editing : the best laptop I can afford isn't a luxury it's a necessity. I even thought for the purposes of fiscal responsibility to consider (eek) a PC laptop: Lenovo Thinkpad (don't yell at me!). After more copious research, including the whole "value" vs. cost equation, well... as I said I'm counting the days now until the expected Wednesday delivery.. had to share and knew this group would be a good one to do it with! woo hoo, now thusly armed may I please garner more work in this crazy job market! ;) thanks, zee

I'm currently holding out for the new edition of the Pro.

But I need something to hold me out until then. I'm thinking of getting a refurbished 13" (as the one I intend on buying is the 15/17). Do you get a student discount, on top of the refurbished price?

Any idea when the new MBP will be released? I would buy a 17" MBP next week but if the new one comes soon maybe I will wait a bit.

getting my macbook pro today!

i can't wait, i am super excited :)
i've been using a gateway laptop for the past 4 years and while it still runs ok, i need something for school and i need a laptop that's easy to carry around (current laptop is 7 pounds -_-)

anyways! is there anything you recommend that i install/buy along with it? i'm getting the 13 inch one. my mom has a mac, so i sort of know how to work one but any tips is appreciated.

i do realize that there is a thread for this, buttttt i did ask a couple of questions and i wasn't sure if they'd be answered in that thread. so.

and i was thinking about waiting but i kind of want one now & i'm not sure how much more money they'll be for a newer one...i'm on a tight budget :)

Congrats on your new MBP and long may you enjoy it; my first Mac was a MBP and it was an excellent computer.

Personally, when I got my MBP (and later, my MBA), I also bought Office for Mac. Most of the people in my various work worlds use Word, and so, being able to work with their tools was a deal-breaker for me.

The newer ones will probably be the same price as the ones now. If I were you, and didn't need a new laptop now, I would wait. The new ones are just around the corner, and you will be happy you waited. Believe me.

I would look into a nice sleeve for it, or a laptop backpack. Enjoy your new purchase, I'm sure you'll love it!

So you must work for Apple's mac division right? There is nothing written in concrete a refresh is around the corner.

While i can't say for certain when to expect it, A refresh is widely anticipated in the coming weeks or months which makes it a good enough reason to wait the extra month or so.

You don't have to work in the mac division to spot trends.

Got my new 17" MBP, non-glossy, 16GB of RAM, 120GB SSD in main drive slot, and 750GB HDD in optical bay. This thing is ridiculous. :D
