hi there,
yesterday my cousin just got a new macbook pro 15", and he is saying how he really loves it.

he got the base model 15" with the quad-core i7
4gb ram
512mb AMD radeon discreet graphics
intel hd 3000 integrated graphics with 384mb shared with main memory.

its his first mac as well, so he is new to it :D

:apple:

Just ordered my fall 2011 13" MBP i7 with an 8GB upgrade for $1339 off macmall. I wanted to wait but my PC confirmed the need for a new laptop by crashing then restarting itself 3 times while I was placing my order. It's being shipped overnight so it should be here tomorrow! I can't wait!

Over the last week we have ordered a refurbished 17" MacBook Pro standard model, and a refurbished 15" MacBook Pro with Hi Res AntiGlare screen.

Upgraded the 17" to 8GB using some spare ram we had in the workshop, and was going to do the same to my 15" but it turned up with 8GB already installed.

Both machines look pristine, with no marks, and people cannot believe they are refurbished units.

Just ordered a 15" HiRes AG, 2.2 Ghz MBP on student discount @ 2 366 US$ including Swedish VAT. Applied for Student loan/payment, interesting to see if they live up to their promises for loan and no income for students.

Need a new computer to succeed my MBP 4.1 that show signs of the inevitable faulty 8600m GT @ PCI-E Lane at 1x instead of 16x

Don´t need the power but i can´t be without computer to manage my courses and assignments and can´t leave the 4.1 in for repair for a week or two.

Hi, new to the forum.

Been lurking on the blog during the past 4 months and was indecisive on getting a Mac. But after years of having iPOD's, and recently an iPAD 2, I had to get a Mac.

Just got myself a MacBook Pro 15in. i7 2.2GHz. I'm so loving the OS X and the touchpad feature. Gotta get some music programs for it and hopefully I can get an iMAC when they release an updated version this Summer, I hope.

After much dithering, I finally went ahead and ordered a new MBP last night. Been debating whether to hang on for the new one or not, but if the rumours are true, and the optical drive is ditched, and maybe the HDD is replaced with an SSD, then that would have been a step back for me.

Went for a 17" MBP, with the 7200rpm 750Gb drive and glossy screen.
Saved myself £125 by speccing it as 4Gb ram, and ordering an 8Gb ram kit from Crucial. If it's anything like my current Macbook, it's a 10 minute job to install.

Going to treat myself to an Apple TV with the money I've saved.

Just got to sit and fidget for a week until it arrives now...

I did it too--bit the bullet and upgraded early.

My very first Mac was a mid-2009 MacBook Pro. It's been great, but the battery is slowing down, and it seems slower than newer stuff in general (I also have 13" 2011 MacBook Air). I like the Air for portability, but not having that optical drive kinda drives me nuts. The jury is not in on that solution with me.

Anyway, last week I ordered an SSD and 4 GB of memory to up it to 8. The thing flies in comparison! So now what do I go and do, even though I've been reading here daily watching for news of the 2012 updates--I ordered an early-2011 high-end MacBook Pro from MacMall after seeing a post here on the big sale. I got what was originally a $1499 machine for $1178, no tax, no shipping. It's the i7. Quite a difference from the C2D!

While I sound happy, I'm disappointed in myself because I just know they will upgrade the screen a little in the 2012 update, which i would love, though I'm worried they will do away with the optical drive.

So...what should I do? Pros and cons? I saved myself over $300 plus tax because I would have bought an update at full price in the Apple store itself. That is enough to upgrade the hard drive in this early-2011 model to maybe even a 512 GB SSD. At full price on the update, I'd probably just have to accept the HDD or settle for a 128GB SSD, which would be pretty much a carbon copy of my Air (except the Air has 256GB).

If I decide to return it, has anyone ever returned to MacMall, and are they pretty good about it? I haven't done anything with it yet other than basic setup and updates. I know if i keep it that I can upgrade the memory myself and not void the warranty, but can I upgrade the hard drive too without voiding the warranty? It's such a simple thing to do as I just did it last week in the old one. In fact, I was pretty proud of myself!

Thanks for any advice. I know these kinds of questions get asked a lot, but I really rely on what I read here in making my decisions. I do like the latest and greatest when it comes out, but I usually have buyers remorse a few weeks later when the newness wears off. For example, looking back, I could have waited without remorse on the iPad 2 and definitely the iPhone 4S, but I got them both on release day anyway! Argh, the life of an Apple lover. :)

Actually you don't know that, but I don't think you actually have a problem. New models won't make your computer run any slower, and it looks like you got a pretty good deal on your current machine.

I agree with the other replies. All in all its about what you need your machine to accomplish. Im going to wait, but the only reason for that is that I want maximum gpu capacity, because despite being 30, I still do a fair bit of gaming, and I would like my next mac to last longer than the one I have now, with longer I mean running games decently without me getting frustrated about the performance, which my mid 09 low-end 13" does. In almost all other aspects, Im prefectly happy with my current... so your late 2011 15" high end with more RAM and an SSD should be a lovely computer for several years, as long as you dont need the quality gamingperformance in 3-4 years. And honestly, we dont know if the upgraded will manage decently in that time either, but for me, waiting makes sure Im as equipped at that time as I can be. You dont mention gaming, so youre in a better position than me, just purchase and enjoy the hell out of you new toy. :)

You're going to regret making that purchase. The new MacBook Pros are supposed to have 40% to 200%+ more graphics power due to the new platform.

First, I say be thankful you are in a financial position to afford one of the best computers on the market today.

Second, you need it now so you get it now. There will always be a newer one just around the corner.

Enjoy your MBP!!!

200% more graphics power? Wheres the source on that?

3D tests compare the 640 with 6750 (640 is the likely replacement for the 6750 it seems) and it got 1750ish or something compared to 1350ish something anyhow, it was a point increase by more than 400 and that would mean around 30% increase, Im not an expert but I have a hard time grasping in what sense the performance would triple compared to late 2011 versions.

Got a new MacBook Pro on Monday!

I've been trying to sell my main gaming rig for a few weeks now in order to buy another Mac and finally found a buyer for it. Headed down to Future Shop (I live in a small city, no Apple stores :( ), and they were selling brand new MBP's for $100 off the retail price. $1149CAD for a new in box late 2011 MBP, I'm content.

Now to slowly get rid of the white early 2008 MacBook that my GF has been using and get her a new MacBook Air for school.

Um... you have 3x MacBooks that all basically do the same thing? Now that doesn't make sense.

I think coming to forums like this is a form of torture after you buy a mac. Enjoy your machine, it's a great one :) .

I'm sure he is referring to the integrated graphics. The HD 4000 is supposed to be a large increase over the HD 3000. Early Bench

I recently purchased the same system also from MacMall. It is a heck of a deal. I put in 16gb RAM for $100, a 3rd party Optibay $12, and Samsung 830 256gb SSD $279.

I don't regret jumping the gun early. I gave up waiting when it looked like the 13" wasn't going to be quad core and wasn't going to be released until June at the earliest. I became less sure I was going to like some of the other changes anyway. I don't use the ODD, but definitely like putting in an OptiBay and adding a second drive. Also don't want to lose ports. I know a lot of people want an updated screen, but I find the screen on the 13" MBA unappealing. The DPI is too high for my taste (making text too small) and the viewing angle seems poor with the colors washed out.

If the new MBP release in the next few months do interest me, I'll just end up flipping or repurposing the system.

Thats still nowhere near 200%+ :p Oh well, the intergrated graphics will still be "*****" for demanding games, I bet.

That was just one early benchmark. I read one report, sorry forgot where, saying the 3DMark Vantage Performance bench shows 199%. Of course it is hard to compare directly because so much depends on the CPU it is paired with.
