Dumb question but this is my first Mac. I got a black cloth with my Macbook. I am assuming this is the only safe way to clean the screen without scratching it?

The question is valid. I had a 13 inch MacBook pro for the last 3-4 years, and never scratched it. I was cleaning it using windex (yes, windex) and any micro fibre cloth. The screen is covered with glass...

Hi, longtime Windows user... I just bought a "new" MBP 17".

It's an October 2011 build, never sold or opened. It'll get here in a couple of days. It's my first mac laptop, any tips on things to look out for and pitfalls to avoid? I ordered the glossy screen instead of the matte, which apparently was my first mistake

I've been looking through this thread, but over 300 pages is a lot to go through! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Glossy is not necessarily a mistake. It depends on your preferences. Glossy displays give you deeper blacks.

My 2.6/16/512 rMBP has been with me for a week, working like a dream. It's a week 49 CTO and has an LG screen. I snagged a bargain Applecare for it too; Amazon.co.uk had a single copy yesterday on for £155 (it's £285 from Apple). As soon as I bought it, the price went up to £205. Registered it today and am now covered to 2015.

I'm still waiting on my rMBP 2.6/512/16

It was considered BTO just because I wanted the ethernet adapter, and Pages along with it. Otherwise it would have shipped in the begging of this week, and arrived by now or the 24th on the latest.

Estimated delivery is the first week of January :(

They need to install pages at the factory and I don't know whether ethernet comes with the box then?
I just thought they throw it with the computer in the box... odd. Good to know.

I'm getting mine in the middle of January. Long time. But wanted BTO... did not want to pay 1000 euros for 768gb drive (the only one in stock with the 2.7 cpu)

Surely installing pages doesn't take a full week? I'd prefer if they made it an auto download on the system instead.

Also the big thing is that as soon as I added the adapted it went from In Stock to 1-3 days before it ships. I'd have also thought, they just put it into the box.

I have to agree on the 768GB SSD though, the price gouging on the SSD's is amazing! The OWC replacement aren't worth the money and hassle either.

Nope, but shipping from China does. :) I don't know where they package it but i believe everything from start to finish is done in china.

Well OWC, depends. it offers around 10-15% speed increase, and you get to keep your internal SSD as an external, for me is both: cheaper, because im getting it from the USA to europe where prices are even steeper, and i get to get more space for less money, more speed for less money.

Hassle... I don't mind. I like to take things apart.

Just ordered mine

I just ordered my very first MBP. BTO 2.7 15 inch hi res anti-glare. I will up grade my ram to 16gb, and install a Samsung 840 pro. I hope I learn ML fairly easily, as I'm a think pad guy. As a side note I also ordered a maxed out W530, so it will be fun to compare them side by side.

Well I finally got an email my order has shipped.

Expected delivery is the 4th of January. :(
UPS Express isn't that express it seems.

Ordered my rMBP (customized) a few days ago. Specs: 2.6 Quad i7, 16GB, 256GB SSD. 15". but 2-3 weeks really? come on apple.

It seems they're awfully busy at the moment.

I ordered my rMBP on Wednesday and it's going to take about 2 weeks for it arrive.

Many of us :)

Can't wait to get mine. I had some second thoughts about CPU, but hey, what the heck.

Just got in a 15" rMBP. Bought from a fellow Macrumors mbr. This thing is awesome. Coming from a 2009 iMac, I am amazed by the speed, and the retina is great. I can't wait for developers to catch up!

"New" MBP 15"

I just upgraded a client with several new MBPs and a few iMacs. On my way out I spotted a older 15" MBP sitting in a trash can. I grabbed the thing and after a HDD replacement and a RAM upgrade it's now running ML flawlessly.

15" Macbook Pro 3,1; 4GB DDR2 667; 500GB WD; ML

For a 2007 machine I'm very surprised at how well it runs.

I also just ordered my rMBP as well.

Are the rMBP's still coming with LG screens or are they all Samsung displays now?

Does Apple have a recycling program? I would hate to see all the high quality aluminum end up in a land fill.

I received mine yesterday morning, and checked today.

I have an LG panel and a Sandisk SSD. No problem at all.
No Image Retention or ghosting and the SSD is top notch as well.

I ordered a 2.7i7 16gb 512gb

I'm hoping to get a Samsung

It was a CTO

2.6Ghz, 16GB, 512GB, with Pages preinstalled and an ethernet adapter.

I don't see why you're worried. I have no problems, my current external monitor uses LG, as does DELL Ultrasharp monitors and the iMacs.
