Took advantage of the Black Friday $150 Apple gift card and got my retina 13" 8/256. My 1st Mac. Used the $150 towards the Applecare.
Was a bit worried what the crowds would be like and was told there'd be an 84 minute wait when I got there but they got to me in 30 mins.
Again the service was simply great. I'm truly amazed every time I walk into the store here in Montreal. I assume it's the same at most Apple stores.
Answered all my questions and set me up with my iTunes. Worth buying at the store vs BB or Future Shop.
The last thing the setup guy said while looking me right in the eye was "Listen, don't hesitate at all to come back with any questions you have. Anyone here in the store can and will want to help you."
Sorry if I'm overly gushing about my buying experience.
Have no affiliation with Apple whatsoever.

If you're willing to buy online from the Apple Store check THIS out. Apple doesn't require confirmation of college enrollment, so a '13 rMBP with 8gb memory would cost you $1279 through them ($20 less than you paid for last years model.) I would definitely go with the retina version over the classic, even if it does mean forking out a bit more cash.

Where's the option for SSD?

Welp, I've been here for a while, but I'd sold my MBP long ago because I wasn't enamoured with OSX at the time. Black Friday picked up the top-end MBPr and... I think I'm a convert. It's truly magical. Kudos Apple.

Still not gonna stop using Android though.

hi Everybody!
Today a premium reseller of Apple (I-Connect) had grand opening here. they were offering 10% off all mac including macbook pro in store.
I wanted the MBP with retina display 13" i5, 16GB ram & 512GB flash drive, but they don't have it as it was a BTO unit.
They suggested that I buy MBP with retina display 13" i5,8GB Ram & 512GB flash drive and they will upgrade it to 16Gb RAM for me in a few days time, by adding the RAM into it?? so I took the plunge and pay for it.
Now I am worried, does that mean it will affect my warranty cover or apple cover when they add the RAM for me?? is there a difference with RAM from BTO and premium reseller ( i know this could possibly be a stupid question, please bear with me)?
Have anyone heard or have done this before? Should I have just forget about the discount and order from the Apple website?
Thank you guys

Sorry to say they either lie or don't know; the memory in rMBP is not upgradeable, it is soldered at the factory. Doubt they will exchange your machine for a 16gb version in a few days

SSD sizes are locked in for the base and mid-level 13". The top-tier 13" comes with a 512, and gives you the option to upgrade to a 1TB.

So for Haswell rMBP 13", there are no 256 SSD variations? It's either base 128 or high end 512?

That is the right choice, if you want 16GB RAM do not settle for 8GB

Exactly. I have to wait to get mine, but it's worth it. And I'm more excited because everyone on here with a maxed-out 13", including you, has come away with a perfect screen. 13" seems to have few bad displays compared to the 15".

Thanks! I have not "look" for issues, like whether my screen has bleeding only visible at full dark screen, fix pixels that are not visible under normal circumstances or Image retention after a 15 minute checker pattern (was tempted to do it, since did it on my previous LG and Samsung 15" rMBP, but have resisted the impulse ;)) Some people are a little OCP , looking for the "perfect rMBP".

If an issue becomes evident under my real live use, will indeed deal with it through the Applecare warranty; in the meantime I'm just enjoying it!

I'm not one to look for issues, either. But I certainly want a good screen. I can't believe I almost went with a non-maxed out model.

Decided to pick up a MacBook Pro 13" 8/256 on Black Friday. I have had too many iOS devices to list but I have never owned a Mac before!

So far it's pretty impressive! Started out wanting an Air but the new MacBook is powerful and thin enough.

The retina screen is amazing, screen looks balanced and no dead pixels.

Any tips for a lifetime PC user? I have used Linux and every version of windows and so far OS X is pretty intuitive.

What kind of tips are you looking for?

Every time I get a computer I like to run through the settings (system preferences) tweak them to my choosing

After I run Time Machine.

he was so confident that it can be upgraded! i am going to give him an ear full!

I wonder what is the waiting time for Ireland/ europe, really hope i can get it before Christmas:D

Purchased a new 15"|2.3GHz (Haswel)|16GB|512 PCIe SSD|750M

Bought on Black Friday for €2045, happy enough with the price. I now just need to start saving for all those other, totally necessary:rolleyes:, accessories.

I am coming from a 2006 HP laptop:eek: But it has served me well, so here is hoping that I can get 4/5+ years use from this.

Expected delivery 6th Dec, this seriously cannot come quick enough as I am very excited now:D I have a Picaso Labs leather sleeve on order since the 18th so here's hoping I get it before Xmas:cool:

Additional considerations that may be bought in time (starting with most important);
Protective Flim (Zagg / Bestskinsever / Wrapsol)
AirPort Express/ Extreme / Time Capsule / NAS
Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple Magic Keypad
Rain mStand

:apple::apple::apple:

I finally got mine!
13 "i5 2.4/8/256
I buy it on Paraguay, $USD 1.685 but ok! In Brazil it costs somewhere around $USD 2.875 so I saved a lot of money.

In love with my rMBP

I'm curious do you intend on putting all your music on the internal SSD?

No all my music is stored on my imac plus backed up to my external hardrive, i will basically only be using the MBP for dj'ing so actually don't want more than i need on there for specific nights , at the end of the day i play vinyl as well & wouldn't take 8000 records with me to do a 1 to 2 hour slot ? I will probably still have around 20gb music on there at one time.

I did think of going for a larger SSD & larger screen but decided that it would just be overkill for what it will be used for as the only software on it will be Traktor Scratch Pro.

It was also down to cost as i could of sold my imac but decided i wanted to keep both.
