I cant decide between getting the late 2013 MBP 15" 2.0 Ghz refurb model or spending the extra $400 and getting the latest 2.2 ghz 15". Is it really worth spending $400 for an extra 8 gb of ram? My 2007 MBP is slowly dying (terrible battery life, heating up all the time, fans coming on at random times, etc).

Just ordered a 15" Macbook Pro Retina with 16GB and 256GB storage - a beast. I'm coming from the late 2009 Macbook white unibody upgraded to 8GB RAM and 1TB HD. I'm going to have to manage storage space tightly for a while until I can afford a bigger PCIe flash storage. Anyone recommends sources of PCIe flash storage?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I bought the refurbished Macbook Pro 2.0GHz. The main difference is the 8 GB ram and . 2GHz. I don't think it's worth it especially that I was planning to buy the 13" mid-range.

Finally took the plunge and upgraded my 2008 white macbook 2.4/4gb/256ssd.

Nothing really wrong with it except it runs hot (super dusty fans i never cleaned) and even with a 3rd party battery it has a 1h30m battery life.

I bought it as a refurb back in 2008 (6 month after release) for $1100.00 (+tax).

I went ahead with a 2012 15" macbook pro 2.3/4/500gb refurb for $1109.00 (+tax). With future upgrades (16gb/512ssd), I'm hoping this one will last another 6 years.

Thank goodness i have a year to pay off that $350 applecare (even though i never used it on the last one...)

B&H had some brand new stock of the 2.0Ghz 15" MBP's available for $1599. I ordered one :). Should be here by wednesday :).

Placed an order on the refurbished Apple store on Thursday.

Replacing my 2009 17" Core 2 Duo 3.06Ghz, 8GB RAM, 512MB 9600M GT, 500GB 7200RPM + 1TB 5400RPM in Optibay, with:

Late 2013 15" 4-core i7 2.6Ghz, 16GB RAM, 2GB 750M, 1TB SSD.

According to Geekbench, my multicore 64-bit performance will be nearly five times as fast. My disk read/write will be no less than twenty times as fast. Haven't found a way of comparing GPU performance, but I'm sure it'll be highly improved as well, especially when I use CUDA while editing video (the majority of my work).

Can't wait! I will miss the 17" screen, but there are so many issues with this computer that the upgrade was necessary across the board. Down the road I plan on getting a 27" or larger 4K display to use when editing at home, which should make up for the 2" loss in screen size while editing on the go.

So excited

Just bought a retina Macbook pro late 2013, 15" 2.0ghz 256SSD with iris pro graphics from the mac store. Should be here in about 2 weeks. So excited.

I forgot to mention I live in Australia. Considering the currency exchange, 13% Australia Tax & the apple australia tax.. How much will this be? AU$ 1,720 with currency exchange alone.

BTW, I got it for AU$ 1,876

I just ordered a 2014 15" retina Mbp from amazon. 16 gigs of ram 2.2GHz Haswell with 256GB SSD. Although i am excited i am more nervous as ive always been a big fan of the rmbp but price was to good to miss. Still will see how she does, just hope my battery dont go loose and wont haft to make regular commutes to the so called "Local" Apple store.

I just ordered my first macbook ever yesterday. It's a 13in refurbish base model. How do I tell if my macbook has haswell or not? Sorry if that's a dumb question but I don't know much about MacBooks yet!

If it is a retina model it will have Haswell.

If it is a retina model it will have Haswell.

Edit: As long as your macbook pro is newer than mid 2013 it will have haswell.

Thanks for your reply. Is the mid 2013 the retina macbook that was released in October?

Finally joining the club after wanting to for a few years. I ordered my first rMBP and should be getting tomorrow. It's a refurb, but I hope it's solid...2.3/16gb/256gb.

I ordered a 2013 Pro (128gb 4gb RAM), refurbished this morning and it has the fastest 5-7 day free shipping I've ever seen. Supposed to be here tommorow morning, barely 24 hours after I ordered it. Wow!

What would you like to know?

Looking for the smaller size MBP, but the "best" one they did with an optical drive.
And if I find one that has the right processor, can I upgrade the RAM, the hard drive etc.?

Or, alternatively, what's the latest one that you can get into the innards of to upgrade? I've ripped apart my Powerbook and installed an SSD and replaced the keyboard and optical drive, so I'm not averse to a bit of hardware fiddling!

The latest macbook that can have both the Ram and SSD upgraded and features an Optcal drive is the Mid 2012 (june, july etc)Non retina Macbook pro.

I presume your after a 13", the safest way to get one of these is of the Apple refurb store. As your in the Uk they are slighty harder to come by but you can use a website called refurb tracker and it will email you as soon as your pacific model is available on Apples refurb store.

If you were after the 15" i would say you may as well get the retina model new from amazon as you can get a new 15" with retina, haswell and 16 gigs of ram for an extra £200 than apples refurbed non retina.
Also the SSD's on the retina can be be upgraded just not of yet, as no 3rd party companys have made a replacement but they will in the future.
Hope this helps.

daughter ordered her mbp up here in Canada...$1100 for an Octoner 2013 128 gig/4gig retina, so she is happy. Not sure space won't be an issue but figure nothng an external hd won't cure, and I assume we will also have the Haswell? Thinking we may buy the same for ourselves to replace our hp that just died a slow death..

I just bought macbook pro 13'' with retina display(2.6ghz/8gb ram/128 gb ssd)
I am photography student, and doing photoshop, illustrator, indesign and sometimes after effects. I am worried about 8gb ram, even when I am surfing on safari, listening music on spotify it uses around 7 gb of ram and I want to keep that mac at least 3 years. I am still in 14 day of return schedule. So should I upgrade to 16 gb ram(150 usd) or 256 gb ssd(150 usd) or both? Does that worth it?

SSD is upgradeable as it resides on a card that you may change, so would not necessarily worry on storage size if you feel 128gb is enough today. Ram, on the other hard, is soldered, so cannot be upgraded. If would suggest to return machine and buy a 256GB / 16GB configuration, that way the 3 years you want it to last would be more realistic.

thanks! what do you think about upgrading the cpu to i5 2.8 ghz? does this necessary with 16 gb ram upgrading?

Hi. That is not required with 16GB, but that processor would speed up a little the machine. I bought the max out version (2.8/16/1TB) trying to be future proof like you, so my recommendations may be somewhat bias ;)

Anyway, don't know if you are buying new or refurbished, but would highly recommend you check refurbished machines from Apple, since they come with the same warranty as a new one and at a reduced cost. My current 13" rMBP is not a refurbished since bought it shortly after they were released, but have previously purchased refurbished with great results. Also check Amazon warehouse deals, as I bought my daughters 13" rMBP there for a great price as well.

Regards,

Francisco

hey, I would like to think about refurbished but in Turkey, apple online store doesn't sell refurbished product unfortunately. I am buying from education store so it nearly costs the same as amazon however I cannot go for 256gb ssd. I think I am gonna change my mac to the 2.6 ghz/16gb/128gb model.
I can think about ssd later. what do you think?

thanks!
