Out of curiosity: Why did you go for i5/8/512 over i5/16/256?
good question.
256 vs 512
it is just personal preference. basically i wouldn't get the 256 storage as not enough for my use. I think the fastest SSD for laptop today in the 2018 MBP is worth to buy and the 512 amount is what i need as i may need it for installing windows bootcamp.
interesting to watch - 2018 Macbook Pro 13" i5/8gb ram vs 2016 MacBook Pro 13" i7/16gb ram
this video shows that the quad core in 13" helps a lot in video rendering.
also, the quad core cpu in 2018 13" is already faster than the quad core in 2017 15"... benchmark said so
8gb vs 16gb ram
I have been struggling for a long while when deciding between 8gb and 16gb of ram.
well i know, some people will need 128gb of ram to do multiple VMs, i get it.
but i just don't do VM at all.
and some pro video editing with motions and effect will need a lot of ram and some will even need that a lot of ram to have normal working app or it will crash without it. i get it. but i never use effect in video editing...
what i do is usually 60 tabs in chrome, MS office, some video editing, some programming. that's it.
currently I am having a 2015 MBP i5/16/512, never have any lag on this machine. and i think MacOS will just use as many ram as possible in order to give user a smooth experience. in fact, I am on budget and I need to get two MBPs at the same time for myself and my family. the deal i got is about US$1980 for a MBP 13" 2018 i5/8/512 with apple care. brand new. this is the best deal i can get.
to be honest, if 8gb makes it lag, i would be ok to close some apps and less tabs in browser. but I don't think it will happen to me when a 2015 MBP i5/16/512 will work just fine. the amount i need to pay for just 8gb of ram is just too high for me (as i said I got the special deal for the base model). don't judge
