I ordered an MBP 15“ 2.2/560x/16GB/1TB with Apple Back to School few days ago.

My MacBook is now preparing for shipment.

I also got my Beats Solo It should be free... But I don’t understand why Apple took money from my account 299€.

For the moment they didn’t took money for the MBP.

I don’t really understand, is it normal?

Yes. They’ll charge you €299 less for your mbp when that invoice comes through. Works best this way for returns if you decide to return your mbp and not the beats.

The cost of the Beats is deducted from the MacBook price once it ships.

E.g. £2000 MacBook & £250 Beats

£250 taken when Beats ship
£1750 taken when MacBook ships (£2000-£250).

Any reason you went for this rather than going for the 2.6GHz stock model for only a little more?
I read that the 2.6Ghz can be a little warmer than the 2.2Ghz and the performance is relatively marginal from the scores that I have read. So, I'm happy for a cooler system and also save that 100 bucks for something else!

Okay thanks :)

My MacBook Pro has been shipped, I’m excited !
It’s strange because it’s not going from China but Netherlands.

(I live in France)

I think I can get it tomorrow.

Likewise, I chose the 2.2ghz over the 2.6ghz too, spent the cash on RAM and SSD. All down to user preference, gamers would prefer high clock speed, video editors prefer more ram and storage. Chrome users need everything

I also get a 2.2 instead of 2.6

It will run a bit cooler and the performance difference is not that big. (And of course I saved some $)

Hahahahaha!

Hi Team!

Yup, I guess there may be a day when I come to regret the decision, but I will definitely appreciate having a cooler system, and saving the extra cash to into my next-iPhone-fund. Haha!

I also like the fact that my Mac is a 'customised' unit, hahah!

Anyone ordered the 15" 2.2 with 512gb ssd, how long did the order take to process, mine has been stuck processing for 3 days now.

My original order was made on the 15th (15, i7, 32, 512) and that was processed pretty rapidly (sub 24 hours), but the replacement for that took a solid 5 days for processing, the delivery date even went out by a day. I'm hoping for it to arrive sometime this week, apple are known to underpromise and over deliver with their deliveries - no pun intended.

They have changed the charging amount this time. I also bought through Back to School and i was charge 2299 for my mac where as on their website it showed 2599. and i was charged 299 for the headphones. This is to cater the problem that when a person returns the device they have to return the beats as well and dont keep them for free!

Actually I believe there is no difference in temps really between the 2.2 and 2.6...if you wanted a cooler laptop then the 555x would’ve been the better choice.

Still you have a nice machine :)

For those that brought the 15" MacBook Pro 2018, is there a noticeable difference between the DDR4 Ram compared to the DDR3 that's in the 13" MacBook?

Also anyone who had a 2011 MacBook Pro (or earlier) is there much difference in size and weight when comparing with the 2018 15" MacBook Pro?

Just wanted to ask - since it seems like you are all buying from apple direct. Why not from Adorama/B&H Photo? The fact that you don't pay sales tax makes it quite a bit cheaper, and they always have $100-$200 deals going on.

Agree. Paying full retail for ANY 2018 MBP is ludicrous. And yet, so many people are doing it, it's mind boggling. But I guess that's why Apple is a trillion dollar company.

I think a lot of people like to buy from Apple directly because it's hassle free (at least in my experience it is) i have brought a number of Apple products over the years and find the whole process with Apple so easy. Buying third party is more of a pain if you have an issue with the device, here in the U.K we have places like Curry's PC world that do sell Mac's, iPad's and so on but their service is terrible, they hardly know anything about the products and often try to sell things like their own extended warranties when Apple care is the best one to get.

Also a lot of people probably buy custom configurations as well, adding 16GB Ram or upgrading the processors doing that can only be done through Apple i believe.

That's the reason why i buy through Apple directly anyway.

Yep, the reason I bought from Apple directly is that I have access to the EPP store so get a discount and also I want a custom config, which most other places in the UK don't offer e.g. Curry's, John Lewis...

For now, many folks can avoid sales tax with Adorama/B&H. Not for much longer though.

I suspect two things factor into many people's choices -- first is likely just a matter of awareness, not realizing those options are available. The other may be concern at the ability to return the computer if it isn't to their satisfaction. Apple's return policy is far more generous than Adorama/B&H -- while the latter do accept defective computer returns I'd imagine they may be less generous on what constitutes "defective". :)

In my case, I was able to order form my undergrad school's campus store which happens to be out of state. I was able to get the EDU deal, get AC+ for a substantial discount, and avoid sales tax. On the down side, the order is still in process and of course double-ships -- first to the store, then to me.

FWIW, Adorama and B&H both offer custom-configs -- though of course the discounts may not be as deep as for configurations they have in stock already.

Ship dates ranged from the 4-6th of September but seem fixed on the 6th once I chose to collect from an Apple store in the UK. Still hoping that might move a little this week since my card was charged the day after I ordered.

My order is now showing that it’ll be ready to collect from the 4th instead of the 6th now. Looking at the invoice now, it shows the full system details including the serial number. Here’s hoping it might arrive at my local Apple store later this week rather than next Tuesday

Still stuck on the same step.

I've upgraded from 2011 MBP to 2018 MBP, both 15".
I don't know about the differences in RAM, but as for the size and weight, yes there are differences. It has smaller foot print and thinner, and is lighter.

Overall size and thickness is definitely noticeable. Weight not so much as it is only about a pound difference, I think.

Did you notice a big difference going from the 2011 15” to the 2018 15”? I think it’s good that they have given it a smaller footprint overall and made it lighter, the 15” 2011” is heavy to carry around, it was worse a few years back while I was at university carrying that around in my bag was heavy.

I don't know about others, but I work out so I have not noticed any difference in carrying 2011 or 2018 around. I do notice however how much less area 2018 takes in my back pack.

Correct. Your laptop isn’t in The Netherlands. Eindhoven is the DHL hub for (west)Europe. DHL doesn’t provide Track&Trace for the shipment from China to Eindhoven. Once your laptop arrives in Eindhoven your Track&Trace will update.

Thanks I didn't know that.
Estimated delivery date is 04 september on Apple website. Do you think I can get it earlier?

Mine was scheduled for 27-08, received it on 24-08. I’m from the Netherlands, so that helped with a faster shipment. Don’t expect your shipment days earlier. Maybe on monday.

My was expected to be available for pick-up on 3rd September, after processing the date has shifted to 31th August. In reality, it was available already today (29th August), however, I haven't expected that so I'll pick it up tomorrow. Apple Store: Vienna.
