13 inch max'd to the gills more than likely. If the specs on the 11 are not too far off the 13 I may roll that way. All I really know is that I am spending some money. ;)

It might take a few days for "ultimates" to appear in store, if its like the last release. Just preparing those who are waiting for a bit of a wait in case its not there day 1.

Excusing that in reality you're right, I still get to call you a doommonger. ::insert cry face here::

Refurbs, ALL I buy!

I am wondering though If i should get a new one to qualify for the back to school program. What do you get anyway? Are the airs compatible with the deal anyway?
:apple:

Well the student discount not only is 15% like the refurb discount but you also get an ipod and a new mac. Theres no reason for a student to buy refurbs tbh unless he wants an older model that is not sold as new any more.

Yeah I'll probably order on day 1, although I might need some time to make up my mind on the options, it depends what is on offer and if it will be a tough choice to make. I'll have to order BTO in any case because I want a US keyboard (I hate Apple's tiny vertical enter key they use on the European layouts).

I'll probably go for the 11" with 4GB, 128GB and 'base' processor, but it will depend on what the 'base' and 'upgrade' processor is. I may just go for the whole ultimate if it's worth my while.

But yeah I'll keep my finger near the left-mouse button for the next few weeks :)

Yo--I hate to be a pessimist (I've been waiting for the SB since ...). But given that Apple is wrapping their last run of C2D MBAs (80k), I'm betting we'll have to wait somewhere on the order of a month from now to see them.

80k??? Are there really that many people out there who would buy C2D at this point?

I hope they make the 4 GB standard option. Assuming they still require an upgrade I'll buy in the USA for AU$1,317 (thanks, brother and current exchange rates) then sell my 3 month old 2010 Air on eBay for about the same. Throw in some cheap freebies and you can get a good price. Worst case I lose no more than a hundred or so.

This system does kind of require me to upgrade with every new release, however that also means I get to stay up to date.

With the 2010-model, it's $100 for upgrading RAM from 2GB to 4GB. I don't think that was very expensive.

I just bought 4gb of RAM for my wifes macbook for under $50--so that would make Apples markup 4x over what I paid.

I won't. :(

But hey, waiting a few more days to get around 30% off (due to a work arrangement) makes it worth waiting for.

Plus I need to see if the Mac reseller near my house is still interested in allowing a trade-in of my 1 year old 15" i5 MBP with high-res matte screen for a new 11" MBA. ;)

I would get more money by selling it the old fashioned way (eBay?), but this is less hassle. Also, I got it for 30% off, so even if the trade-in value seems like a complete rip-off, it probably won't be for me. :p

You have to buy it the day it comes out. Because as you well know, the 'old' one stops working immediately upon release of a new model.

It was 80k C2D's and 400k SB's. And that's for production during the month of June (so from the start of June).

So I'd imagine the 80k production run has long since finished and those are already making their way to customers now. Depends on their business model (mainly their stock levels) how long until it's gone but I don't think it'll be a month.

Uh c2d are more than capable enough in a MBA with ssd

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't say it wasn't capable, and I'm certain there are those who will buy C2D even with an SB MBA out....but 80k units sounds like too many.

I have no intention of upgrading, as my 11” has served me fantastically since I got it last December. I’m pretty sure it will still turn on once the refresh is released, and continue to work just fine for me for another year or two as well.

It's good to hear the the Air machines are quality enough to last longer than each generation.

Sometimes it is appropriate to skip a generation, which I have done with the iPhone by holding on to my jail-broken-delux 3gs waiting for the 5.

This will be my first Air, so I'm pretty excited about it. It's about time the office got a new travel laptop... Next will be the office 'server' being upgraded to a 17" MBP. :D

Looking to buy the 13" on release with the 128 SSD upgraded to 4GB of memory. From a purely itemized hardware perspective, the pricing is ludicrous (don't get me started on the C2D model), but this machine offers a unique aesthetic that I think I will really enjoy, and I respect Apple's decision to charge a premium for it.

Does anyone know if Apple has any history of carrying models with upgraded memory in store? I've heard of "ultimate" models in store in the past, but not with only the upgraded memory.
