Mine has never gone over 55c with default cooling, even if I was encoding with HandBrake...

Then you see my concern. Everything else is acceptable under 100c for the CPU and around 60-65c for the GPU. This is only in Windows btw. In OSX HD stays around 40-50c

*slaps forehead*

Right, so I have 2 questions:

- I bought a refurb a week and a half ago - anyone know what the returns policy is?
- How much of a performance boost is the 1GB card? yes I do game.

You have 14 days to return it so you're still within the return period. However, a 10% restocking fee may be charged (at least in US)

There is no information what card that really is and is it underclocked etc. It will be faster, that's for sure, even the VRAM will help

SO how many more years before the i7 is in the base 27" model?
2? 3?

It probably won't find its way there but there are faster i5s coming. The name doesn't really matter

:)I was going to buy my iMac last week...HA All of my teachers growing said procrstination was a bad thing....I will get around to buying one eventually:D

are none of you afraid that the graphics card will be worse than the previous model?

we dont know if the 5750 is the desktop or mobile variation. if its the mobile variation the card will be absolutely horrible and nobody should buy it.

It can't be the mobility version, it would be VERY retarded. There is no mobility 5670 so they must be desktop names but likely underclocked.

no HDMI port?

they put one in the macbook pro, why not the imac? now i have to run 2 cables to my tv.

Apple mentions that the 5670 uses GDDR3 memory, so it can't be a default desktop 5670 (especially since it's offered in the 21.5 inch form factor)

I think it's a rebranded mobile 5750 or something that's named 5670 to avoid confusion with the (possible) desktop 5750 that's in the high end iMac.

yes but do you denie its impossible? with apples graphics history I dont think its completely out of the question. I will need to wait for some more evidence about performance.

1280x1024 3dmark 06 should give a desktop 5750 around 15000, which is around 2000 more than the previous Imacs card.

But if it's the mobility its another story, but not impossible due to lower heat...

Glad I waited as I nearly bought last week!

Just ordered the base model 21.5.

Took advantage of the £70 cashback on the printer so got the £90 HP all in one wireless for £20.

Should hopefully have it before then end of the week. Excited :)

One question though - is this base model significantly improved over the previous version? I'm a total noob when it comes to processors etc

+1.

Wait until someone runs some benches, and we see for sure this is an under-clocked 5750 and not a mobility card.

How dumb will you feel if the 1% chance Apple goes retarded comes true?

Since you can now order a standard hard disk AND a SSD disk on the big screen model, does this mean that there are now two normal internal hard drive bays in the iMac 27"? ...In which I could later install any hard disk?

Sorry if this is a daft question, I have no idea how SSD drives work (interface and sizes).

Saw some benchmarks showing that the 5750 is only marginally faster than the 4850. Ah well.

Cheers, A.

I bought the 27" i7 iMac 8 days ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it all week.

My question now is; do I return it and exchange it for the the updated i7 or are the upgrades so marginal that it's not even worth the hassle?

All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

I bought the refurb i7 a week ago realizing the update was coming. Based on processor rankings from: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html, my feeling is that the upgrade is minor especially if you purchased the refurb. Video card is yet to be seen since it looks like a rebadged card. Overall i'm guessing a 5% performance increase. That's pretty much negligible.

Third Party price reduction

Just letting anyone who cares know that Best Buy just reduced the the price of their 2009 iMacs online last night. Hopefully this means the new models will be in store soon to play with and buy.

I am stuck getting it from Best Buy as I have over a grand in gift certificates from there so I am watching them like a hawk.

Happy Buying guys!:apple::apple::apple:

also i plan on buying the imac as a gift to my girlfriend whos heading to grad school. do you think i can get any back to school discounts/benefits for her and still finance and purchase in my name?
