If you have any doubts just wait a couple of weeks. Geekbench and MacTracker will be updated by then with comparative benchmarks. Always helpful in making buying decisions :)

I've waited for 9 months. :(

I can't wait anymore.

I don't even want to wait for a BTO. I already took the Quad back to the office yesterday. I just can't take it back and say sorry to my new employee. After I said here is your new work mac, top of the line 27 quad. Glad to have you on board, here you go.:(

Friggin killed me as I smiled and walked into my office and kicked the chair and proceeded to curse my wife for making me get rid of it from the house because she gets migranes. :(

To top it off my dog pi##ed on my leg yesterday. I thought buying a new mac was supposed to make you happy.

I've been waiting a few months for the imac to update. I've been planning on buying my girlfriend one and im ready to make the move now.

the problem is i want to utilize the back to school sale for the free ipod touch. i graduated 2 years ago and no longer have a valid letter of enrollment or valid .edu address.

she is going to grad school this fall is it possible to still get the benefits of the sale by using her current enrollment letter or .edu email address and still be able to finance it in my name on my own card through best buy for example? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure her enrollment letter will suffice, since many people use the program to buy macs before their first year at school and before they have IDs.

Also, I think if you buy online they don't even ask for proof, only ask what school are you going to and let you get the discount.

Thanks. I think im going with the base model, it looks like it is very sufficient for video editing, photos, browsing etc. The higher end models are built for professionals.

It looks like I'll save $50 on the price down from $1200 to $1150, a free epson printer after rebate, and the free ipod touch. seems like a good deal to me, do you agree? also do you know anything about apples financing? i know best buy has 12 months @ 0% but im assuming it would make more sense to just purchase thru apple and pay up front? any help on this subject would be great, and your opinions on the best way to go about purchasing.

What about new iMac (21,5" high-end) for some photo editing and some gaming?

Can we expect the same performance of the 5670 desktop version?

WHOO hooo!

Just placed my order. Did it via educational discount. Ordered the new 27" i7 2.93 w/1GB vid. Got $100 off and a free iTouch 8GB and also 3 year APPLECARE. The Applecare was ony $139.99 if I buy now instead later @ 199.99.

Pretty happy. Now I'm gonna look for ram. Suggestions?

upgradeable?

yeeeesh! i just bought an iMac on 7/11 as a gift. its still unopened and unused. do you guys think that Apple will take it back and let me upgrade to a newer model?

brian

I was also waiting for USB 3.0; however, I am going to wait for the WWDC / Summer 2011 update which will hopefully bring: HDMI, USB 3.0, faster firewire, Sandy Bridge, Light peak and (hopefully) blu ray.

As Rodney Dangerfield famously said (Caddyshack): "You'll get nothing and like it!"

...................... no way in Hell will Apple bring that to market in 2011 ~~ :p

It's been 16 days and the normal return time is 14 days but if it's unopened, you have a good chance to get it exchanged. Call them and be nice

That's pretty damn nice of you, dude. Sure as hell is more productive than some lame piece of jewelry that caused death to lots of African slaves:(

I config I'm looking at comes out at around 2,800. Fully specced 27'' with 8 Gigs of Ram, and the usual shinnangians, but thats not including the 2TB Firewire 800 Western Digital, extra keyboard, office 08, iwork 08, Ipod duck, itunes cards, trackpad, and other stuff...

suddenly the 3,400 USD that I had saved up for a new desktop, laptop and phone not so much... by apple standards.

But on the other hand, this 27'' is both my main mac, and my gaming pc. But with this I wont be able to afford a new laptop and/or an Iphone 4.. dammit.

im not rolling in education for two more years at least, so im out of the loop in that area. From my estimate this new Imac had its specced bumped around 250 Dollars to 450 dollars, compared to when you tried to max out the previous Imac 27... the 2,9 i7 must have added extra cost.

Umm - am I missing something here? How can I get the price to come out like that for me on that setup!?

x2

Car for 2nd year, House for 3rd year, Yacht for 4th year?

Hahaha, not quite. We're both late 20s and own a house together, hence virtually married. She's a full time teacher, part time post graduate student and she also does most of the house work (I work an hour and a half away so I never get in before 8pm)

She really needs a decent machine at home for the 2nd half of her Masters and having managed to get top marks in her first year she kind of deserves it.

(and I fancy having a mac at home for my own use too :D)

It's an educational discount price through Apple UK. The "actual" price is £200 more as you get £70 back on the printer and £130 back on the iPod. I can forward the e-mail on to you if you like with the breakdown.
