Hope the Mods will do it. Apologies.....otoh...guess it'll call attention to my question - but that wasn't my intent!

Can anyone suggest an Ad Blocker for iPad Mini (1st gen.) with iOS 9.1?
Apps in App Store don't seem to be compatible.
Someone suggested earlier in this thread that they all require a 64 bit processor and that the original iPad Mini is 32 bit...????
Any ideas anyone?
Yes, content blockers require a 64-bit processor. The 1st gen iPad mini uses the Apple A5 SOC (System on a chip) which is 32-bit.

I'd like to introduce you Adguard for iOS:
https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1047223162

Why should you prefer Adguard over these tons of other ad blockers.

1. Some lyrics first. Developing of ad blockers is what we do for living. This app is made not just because ad blockers is a new AppStore trend. This means that the app will be constantly improved and it will never be abandoned (as it will happen with the most other ad blockers rather soon).

2. Adguard is the first app, that allows you to create your own filter rules using the well-known ABP syntax (more about it here or here). This rules syntax is used by all ad filters developers: we use it for our filters, easylist authors, fanboy, etc.

3. This allows us to provide you with more than 50 different filter subscriptions. If you ever heard about EasyList, EasyPrivacy or Fanboys filters, you understand what that means.

easylist1.png

4. Safari Action extension: that is simple and must-have option. Add website to the whitelist right from Safari. You do not need to open Adguard for it.

5. Filters are not hard-coded into the app and are automatically updated.

6. It is free. Yet we may make it a paid app in future.

We are waiting for the feedback

1. Please tell us what you like or don't like about the app.

2. Do you have any feature request or bug report?

3. We are always looking for beta testers. So if you want to help us - please send me a request.

There's a new adblock release called Transparent Web. You launch the app, navigate to the website you want manage/block, select which element to block then save the filter. In theory sound good but doesn't work on the first website I tried and uninstalled. Free for initial release though, not sure how long it will stay free.

Thanks for reply....that app sounds hideously cumbersome.
Just stumbled upon this in App Store: "Adblock Browser for iOS"

It's (supposedly?) compatible with older iPads/iPhones.
I installed it but can't figure out how to actually get it to work....doesn't seem to have any integration with Safari - nor does it appear to function as a stand-alone browser. ........I'm confused......and beset by ads!

Well... first of all thanks for providing instructions on creating custom filters. It will help a lot to get started with custom rules.
One feature request (BGG mentioned it earlier in the thread) is to have a visual element picker- where one can select the ad element to be blocked. That will ease creating custom rules and realizing full potential of content blockers.
I have Adguard installed, would like to beta test in the future.

Oh yes, thank you! This will be the the main feature of the next major release (version 1.1):
https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForiOS/milestones

Element selection on touch devices is a bit harder to implement, but it's possible.

I have Adguard installed, would like to beta test in the future.

As I've said, just PM me when you are ready. Version 1.0.3 is currently in beta test, mostly bugfixes and UI improvements there.

Yahoo is locking down email access to some people using ad blockers.
http://www.theverge.com/2015/11/20/9769354/yahoo-mail-ad-blocking

That's a wrong strategy to increase revenue, users will simply switch to another email service (if they are still using Yahoo mail).

instead of innovating their services to keep customers, Yahoo is just arm twisting - you want to read your emails - watch this ad first.

Their CEO is about to get fired so she's probably trying to bring in as much revenue as possible to keep her job!

Unfortunatelz Adguard is way to slow... Same as on the desktop version. It's slowing down traffic to much. This issue I have for more than a year...

I think Adguard has lot of potential, given that the developer is committed in that line of business. However, it's breaking too many websites now and there's no easy way of reporting them (I only see whitelist in its extension).

Not here to bash competitors. Haven't tried Adguard, but looking at their filters/lists and see that they whitelists a lot of websites/companies.

Adguard; Any reason for that? Do you get paid for that?
Adguard on the desktop has a similar model for "acceptable ads" as Adblock Plus (Eyeo). They call it "useful ads":

https://adguard.com/en/whitelist.html

I assume they whitelist what they consider "useful ads" in the iOS blocker as well (which would be a reason for me to never use it just like I'll never use a blocker that joined Eyeo).

It would be better if you give some examples of that. Exception rules are mostly to fix the website when content is incorrectly blocked by other rules.

Oh I see, marketing 80lvl.

1. It has nothing to do with eyeo and their acceptable ads. And by "nothing" i mean absolutely nothing. We don't get paid for it, the list is short and contains only self promo ads or search contextual ads (which for some users is more helpful than the search result).

TODO: we should mention that on the whitelist page, I've just taken a look at it and it can be misleading. Thank you! UPD: done.

2. That filter is disabled on iOS by default.

You are right, it should be a way to report incorrectly blocked or missed ads right from action extension:
https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForiOS/issues/43

@Hippocrates, could you please send me some broken websites in PM or post here?

Have you tried the latest version (1.0.2) or some older one? There was an issue with the previous version (1.0.1), but the lastest one is fast.

Yes, I have tried the latest version but it still feels very slow :(..
Same issue I have with v5.x on Windows... Thats why I gave up on it.
It is a good app, filters work good but to slow:(.

Could you please tell me what device do you have? I have an idea: we may have to introduce some kind of a "speedy" mode, disabling "element hiding" rules and leaving only URL blocking. We have done it in Android version once.

Same issue I have with v5.x on Windows

Wow, that's unexpected. If you have time for it, I am willing to help you with that. It's important for us as v6 is very close to release. Of course you'll get a premium license in exchange:)

I tried it for a week on an Iphone 6s and Iphone 6.
It is way to slow compared to other blockers.
For the windows version I have even opened a ticket 5-6 months ago and unfortunatellz everything I tried with support did not help and he suggested I should wait for v6.
I have time... So any siggestions to make 5.x speedy are welcome:). We can take this further in a private message?:).
Thanks

Having comprehensive filters has it's own drawbacks:) The only way of speeding this up is to optimize filters for those, who choose speed over quality. That is possible of course:

Yep, let's move it there:)

Thanks for the explanation. I'd still like to understand what the exact criteria are and who makes the decision what is "useful". Personally, I don't find contextual ads in search engines useful at all. If I want shopping results, I search the "shopping" category in Google or the like.
2. That filter is disabled on iOS by default.
That's good.

Strange. I have every filter turned on. I have not noticed a slow down at all with Safari iOS 9.1. I have the iP6s Plus.
