Ooooo...sounds like a major update coming!! ;)
It's probably not the most likely thing, but it would be cool if Apple basically said "Merry Christmas/Happy New Year" and boom...there's Look Around for the rest of the US! The data is already there. The "switch" just needs to be flipped.

Given that Canada's release was massive, we know it can be done! Regional releases of the maps for the US seemed to be Apple's test for how much of that data they can do at once. Canada's Look Around release very well could be the same story. Their coverage dwarfs ours by a looooooong shot and I really doubt that it will stay that way for too long. Looking forward to it! There are a lot of places that I haven't been to in a while that would be fun to take a look at!

Also worth mentioning: Justin O'Beirne notes that for Look Around, there was a 6 day gap between the release of Takumatsu, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima in Japan and Canada's large release. And then 6 days between Canada and the most recent US releases (Miami, Detroit, and Denver). Today has been 6 days since Miami, Detroit, and Denver.

North Sea still showing as North Atlantic Ocean out here atm. Small niggle, but getting the sea/ocean wrong! I’ve reported a few times. Do Apple ever respond to issue reports for maps?

I’m submitting a video report, but it’s a pretty small error as it only shows up like that for me when you zoom in to the point where no land is showing. Not sure when that would ever happen for 99% of users.

Are you seeing it when land is visible in the screen?

Edit: seems limited to an issue on the Western portion of the sea near the UK as it shows up properly at the same zoom level in the east.

It’s more the fact that Apple weather, Dark Sky and Carrot all show my location as North Atlantic Ocean, when prior to the last Maps update they pin pointed me correctly in the North Sea. Any location app that uses Apple maps throws this up.
So the weather app’s show up wrong location all the time when I’m offshore. They never used to!

Just a “showing a little love for how far Maps has come” post... ;)

Loving how Maps shows “lanes” for both the parking lot path as well as drive through...and my GPS has me in the exact spot I’m actually at!

And then leaving the mall (I know) and getting this notification.

Still seems like it’s getting better every day.

Nice to see you in CarPlay for a change, even if the car apparently has a tiny screen.

Had to go to the office today (instead of work from home) so pulled up Maps and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had speed limits on all streets, not just the major thoroughfares.

Thumbs up

I've noticed they even have them on roads that don't have a sign posted on them. Where I live, we have a lot of rural roads that don't have a posted speed limit. In an "unmarked, rural road" scenario, the speed limit is 55mph, but there are some scenarios where it's 45 (on a section of that road that has housing, for instance). If you don't live around here, you aren't going to know about the 45 part because there aren't any signs warning of a drop in limit. For those instances, having speed limits show on the map is a huge help.

I wonder if Apple had discussions with counties about that because the only way to find an actual map of where those special circumstance 45mph speed limit locations are, is on the county website...and if you pay attention to when the sign on screen changes between the 55 and 45...it lines up perfectly with the county map data.

I've used Apple Maps via Carplay a few times whilst in France on holiday a few times both in my car and hire cars. There are numerous roads around where we go where the limits arent signposted and will change quite frequently including on quite fast country roads where for so many yards either side of a junction it drops and the goes up again. If you dont do it on a regular basis etc you would struggle to know what the limit is but Apple Maps always seems to be right including changing as you get close to the junction before going back to the original limit once you've passed it.

Have a similar experience using it on a daily basis in the UK as well. Pretty much always shows a speed limit whilst navigating a route along with traffic lights, stop signs, speed cameras etc

I’d like Look Around across the USA
I was just about to say the same. I have a feeling now that holidays are over and everyone’s back to work, we might (hopefully) start to see some acceleration in that area. Canada has MUCH more coverage than the US right now. I seriously doubt it’ll stay that way for much longer.

This one is probably unlikely, but I’d like to see Apple release something of a statement regarding countries to be released next...instead of only making mentions at WWDC. Those releases are also ones that need to be sped up. A few a year, which has been the move so far, isn’t going to cut it. As an example, come out next week and say “We plan to have Italy, Germany, and France released by_____”. (let’s say September). Then when WWDC comes around, maybe “Australia, Israel, New Zealand, etc. In addition to those previously mentioned earlier this year (these being released by the end of the year or early next year”. Give us an update a few times a year to have an idea of what’s in the pipeline, instead of just listing a few countries once a year. They have seriously accelerated their collection reach, so it stands to reason that releases should start to accelerate to more than just a few a year.

That'll be cool. I'd also like to see some sort of effort to update the existing Look Around photos. Google gets updated Street View footage much more often.

I'm hoping to have a new car with a much wider screen for CarPlay in a couple of months. I'm curious to see how that changes the screen zoom distance at which the 3D buildings appear on the map.

Something a bit different today.

First a question; does anyone know how to keep the distance legend on the screen full time? Currently it on shows when you two-finger the screen.

Second an issue; recently the maps have downgraded for my area (Ventura California). While looking at the maps this morning, I noticed in satellite view, all the business labels have gone away. Zoom in or out and they do not show. In Maps they are there. See below. Reported via Feedback. This is on IPP 11 2020 and 12 ProMax on 14.4 and 11 ProMax on 14.3

1) you can’t...has been discussed on threads and is just “one of those things” that people either care less about or care too much about. ;)

2) Same here...was it not always that way? I have no idea.

Thanks!

You could be right? Don't have any old shoes but I thought they did.
Then again I use Gmaps usually
