Arrrrhhh, you guys making me jealous!!!
Ok I could actually get one but at this point in time, I prefer waiting for the 2011 iteration, hoping there will be a front facing camera. I'm totally sold on Facetime.

I was just wondering a little bit about the first post... I've had my iPad for about a month and some change brand new from the apple store, and I've seen some really good battery life. I've never had a complaint about my battery life, and it's always been impressive to me. My interest is the OP stating they surfed the net and watched YouTube videos for 2 hours only using 5% of your battery. I mean... Are you being very generous, or are you kidding? I just can't believe after 2 hours of surfing, videos and actually having the screen "on" would you only use 5%.

The reason I ask is because I don't get that battery life. If you're seriously getting it, please tell me what yours doing that I'm not. I use mine on the lowest brightness settings, and I turn my wif/bti off when I don't plan on using it for awhile on my wifi only iPad.

It might have been like an hour and a half at most but I have my brightness at like 40% and I did more website browsing than watching YouTube. I did watch a couple of clips though like a couple of case reviews.

I did a lot of reading on the sites than loading the webpages over and over so if you're constantly refreshing that might use up more battery. I also tend to notice it takes a while to break 90% than say 80%. It's weird

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I guess I never realized it till you said something, but I do tend to move a lot around the net, and I never really stick to one task very long. It really does bring it into perspective once you explain it that way.

Thanks again, and go iPad :).

In a month or so, those people who sold their iPads to get a new mba will miss their iPads. And, as Apple hopes, they will either purchase another one or wait for the next one; Apple will reap the benefits.

I can't imagine not having a tablet type device now for convenience sake. I contemplated buying a MacBook Air or Pro but instant on, battery life, and 3g access are awfully hard to overcome when you don't need very specific programs for daily use.

I came to a realization: the iPad is an underrated device. I saw everyone around me scrambling to find an electrical outlet to plug their dying netbooks, laptop, etc and then awkwardly sitting forward to see the screen and or type. Most of these people werent really working they were just surfing the web just like I was :)

The iPad is the ULTIMATE chill device. There's nothing more awesome than leaning back in a chair, sofa, etc and just get lost in entertainment with this thing. It's a joy to use and the fact that the battery is a monster is icing on the already delicious cake.

<3 my iPad <3

This is truth. I still suffer from Mac OSX dissonance every once in a while, where there is a task I can perform on my desktop which I can't on the iPad (mostly, playing Minecraft :)), and it makes me feel sad. But overall I am very impressed with the number of things the iPad can do. And more than that, I'm always impressed with how nice it is to use. The screen is so clear and vibrant, the device so light and solidly built, and the glass... I love the glass. My fingers just glide over the screen with such ease. Almost a year from the iPad's release, and we are finally starting to get some great apps as well.

I really think it is one of the best computers I've ever bought, and as much as I want a MacBook Air, I can't justify it because the iPad performs its functions so admirably. Not to mention the built in 3G gives me network access anywhere and the battery life is simply insane. Since April, I have never once worried about my remaining battery life.

When I think about it moving to the Air would actually be more of a downgrade than an upgrade. Despite the benefits of Mac OSX (which for a device of this portability are marginal), I would be forced to deal with more weight, less battery life, less ease of use (more difficult to open and use a laptop on the go than pull out an iPad), and no ability to draw on the screen (I use a lot of painting apps).

About 9 to 10 hours tops...
2 hours surfing and only 5% used= bunk!

Take note, that the largest battery efficiency for video playing seems to be in the Videos app. So we're not talking about streaming movies, but playing them from the internal storage. It's super efficient playing movies you got using iTunes, and that's where you'll see the 10hr video playing. Because it should average about 9-10% an hour for use while playing those videoes. That is, if you don't turn the brightness up and keep it low.

i just sold my iPad last week and bought a 11.6 MBA. the iPad is great but lacks a bit, i will buy another next rev.I only lost 89.00 selling the iPad.

I agree with this thread and almost all of the posters. We need more love for the iPad!! I. Don't know if anyone here got the iPad on day one, but do you guys remember tracking flights the night before, and waking up early, and stressing out from the batch that went to Hong Kong, less than 24h from release. Waiting for it was good times.

But now it seems funny thinking about a time when I didn't have the iPad. I mean everyone in my house uses it, and just sort of passes it around. It handles 95% of all web browsing done here. Plus I use it for all the other stuff.

I remember in January when I came home and loaded up Apple.com. The first thing that popped into my head after seeing the iPad for the first time was "Oh my god, that is ugly. Why has Apple make a giant iPod touch?" I thought so because I had had an original iPod touch from day one, and seeing the iPad just looked so disproportional after having owned an iPod touch for so long. But as the days past, it started looking prettier and prettier. In all honesty, this is probably the best looking technological device I own. It is aesthetically pleasing and soft and smooth to the touch. Beautiful.

As for it's functionality, the first time I saw it, I assumed all it did was what an iPhone does. But then I saw iWork (Huge selling point for me) and iBooks (who could deny the sexiness of flipping a page on a screen as gorgeous as this). So it was after 3 days I realized what an awesome product this was going to be. I preordered it the morning they were available.

I still use it heavily these days, the battery is running just as long as it always has, and it looks better than ever. But what amazes me time and time again is the screen. Howit acts as an input and output at the same time. It just blows my mind!

I had no idea the battery life was so amazing. It's rated at 9-10 hours. Are people getting better?

Excellent comparison on the tub/swimming pool.

I have a friend with an iPad. It got stolen. She replaced it that day and said she was going crazy the few hours she was without it. I guess you get dependent on it.

For now I'm happy with my Macbook + iPhone, but I could totally see myself getting a pad in the future.

Ok so i have seen a lot of people talking about 4.2 beta here.
Right now m on 4.2 beta 3-yes my device is a developer device...
There has been no change whatsoever in the battery life-trust me on that...
Printing has been working flawlessly,IM is working flawlessly and the battery on this thing is just ridiculous....

And yes m typing this on my ipad..:D;)

You know the drop from 100% to 99% takes an awful long time. It takes about 45 minutes of Internet use to me. So another 4% in a little more than an hour seems pretty accurate.

Yep

It takes longer for me to break the 90%-100% for some reason. Maybe that's how the battery works but yeah, you'll blow through 80-70% quickly.

iPad definitely owns other tablet devices when it comes to layout, OS, ease of use, etc. However, the apps department, especially for games, sucks. These developers are highly focused on the iphone and ipod touch, and occasionally get around to squeezing out a game or two for the iPad format. So I just sold mine and got an iPod Touch.

Honestly don't really miss the screen real estate oddly enough. I was glad to have something that fit into my pocket while flying for work this week. And the app store is once again a lively entity that has new apps each week, instead of something every quarter.

I see lots of great stuff happening for the iPad in the future, and I very well might pick another one up as soon as the applications catch up. For now, its just not a priority.

I agree with you. The iPad app sotre still needs to mature. However, the potential on the iPad far exceeds that of the normal app store, I think. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future!
