They aren’t mistakes. They are good phones that clearly still have at least some demand judging by the response here. The truth is that it’s a bridge product. Since the X is such a radical departure the 8 is here to bridge the gap between the two generations.

What others seem to be conflating, is that Apple is not going to just offer a $1000 iPhone X that they know the majority cannot afford. The iPhone 8 is still an upgrade from Older model iPhones for many and is widely more available. You have to configure that the majority don't upgrade on an annual basis either. Which is why I don't believe that Apple intended on manufacturing iPhone X for every iPhone user to upgrade to annually because of the price point, but eventually OLED will be across their entire lineup at one point.

I wouldnt buy anything at all if it was just the 8/8+. Those are barely upgrades at all. If someone told you the 8 was a 7 no one would question it. They couldve gotten away with an iPhone 7s name tbqh.

Lets be honest. People should stick with a 7/7+ if they are on a budget. Nothing wrong with the 7/7+. It does everything the 8/8+ does minus the wireless charging which literally no one needs and most will barely use if ever use. We have a wireless charging pad at home and we havent used it once since my roommate got his galaxy S8+.

People think they are doing something by buying an overpriced 8/8+ that is barely distinguishable from the 7/7+. There is nothing new being brought to the table.

Minus wireless charging comment ?

Below list over iPhone 7/7+

How about the slightly better camera
How about the faster CPU/GPU
How about the stronger glass
How about, yes, wireless charging that I use every day
How about the slightly better speakers
How about Bluetooth 5.0
How about Portrait Lighting (in beta)
How about 4K 60 FPM
How about The display supporting high dynamic range in apps that support it

Even with that 'look at it' functionality disabled, you still have to pull the phone out and aim it at your mug to unlock it.

I can unlock my iPhone 7+ BEFORE it's even out of my pocket. By the time I have the phone out, it's ready to use.

Great but do those 0.5 seconds really matter? Is this the big concern that you can't unlock your phone in your pocket? Of course everybody has their own needs. For me it's more that the phone suits a normal user more than a plus.

I love how quickly people just **** on Touch ID. It was blazing fast and extremely reliable.

But now Apple has ditched it and went with something new, I start seeing ridiculous claims like “Touch ID fails me half the time”, “Touch ID is cumbersome”, and “Face ID is better in every scenario”.

How difficult is it for some sheeps to understand that just because Apple did it doesn’t mean it’s perfect?
People saing TouchID isn’t as great a solution as FaceID or that TouchID fails in cases where FaceID doesnt literally isn’t “sheep” saying Apple is perfect.

It’s simply you ignoring what is actually being said and making stuff up in your own mind fit a situation that doesnt exist because you cant argue with the actual substance of what was said.

I never said FaceID was perfect or that TouchID failed 50% of the time. I simply said TouchID is harder to use. Factually TouchID is harder to use than FaceID. You are off on some tangent about sheep saying everything Apple does is perfect.

Im wondering why someone would pay a higher price for what is essentially last years tech plus wireless charging and a slightly better camera. The only place wirelss charging is at thing is at starbucks. It is painfully slow to charge and the UX is messy as you cant use your phone while it charges. Your phone must be lying flat on the matt.

If the 8 had to exist it shouldve been priced the same as the 7 or lower. The 7’s price shouldve been dropped as it uses old technology. I’m sorry but wireless charging is gimmick and the camera upgrade will barely be noticed by non-photographers and non-camera people. It was completely pointless. iPhone 7/8 are not even budget conscientious because you are over paying for last years tech.

I have an iPhone 7 and an X. FaceID is definitely the faster of the two in day to day use. This is because with an X I simply pick up phone and swipe up.

With a 7 I have to pick up phone and fumble around to get my thumb into place. Then it opens. TouchID is faster on paper. FaceID faster in real life.

Normally, in Appleland the new technology is priced at the level the old technology was the year before. However, this year we see that Apple has jacked up the price on what are seemingly minuscule upgrades that the average user will barely notice if at all. Upgrades like slightly faster processor, slightly better camera, embracing the current bluetooth standards are hardly worth spending the extra money over the iPhone 7/7+ series which is still priced the same as it was last year. Last years standard at todays prices. Why?

Where did I say YOU said those things? Those are things I’ve seen people say in this forum.

But what you are saying is equally ridiculous. You have to “fumble around” to find the home button that’s been in the same place for the past ten years? If true, that says more about you than the technology itself.

Then why is it a reply to my observation.

The 8/8+ are bigger upgrades than the 7 was from the 6S. All they did there was remove the headphone jack and antenna lines.

I have an 8, and the size is just right - I have small hands, so for me it isn't too small. I also use wireless charging all the time, in fact I've only used the cable once in the time I've owned it (launch day).

Barely distinguishable? Have you not seen the new space grey and gold colours? Surely you don't think the new space grey looks like the matte/jet black iPhone 7/7+ :p

Right? ;):p it's just a minority of X users/fanboys trying to justify their $1,000+ purchase. I've read/watched plenty of reviews that state that FaceID and TouchID are on par. :p

Why do you care how much the 8/8+ is? No one's making you buy one, you have the vastly superior :)rolleyes:) X.

I don't think the X should start at £999, the tech isn't that revolutionary to me. But so what? I didn't buy one, so I'm not £999 out of pocket. ;)

I know what the X has. I have a wireless charger at home and I have yet to use it as I like to use my phone while it charges when I'm at home.

I didn't say putting up a finger was difficult in a vacuum. I qualified it by saying it's more difficult than FaceID. FaceID feels more natural.

Coming from the 6s to the X, there are definitely cases where Touch ID worked better, but people get so triggered when I say that. Some people can’t fathom whatever they have in their hands isn’t perfect in every way possible.

Touch ID is harder to use than Face ID???? Really??? I’ve read numerous comments about having to have it at right angle while swiping up and having difficulty opening the device while Touch ID is one finger click that’s it. No coordinating face and swipes etc.

Not a mistake, they need a phone for people who can afford that price point. Plus, they needed to provide a solid option for those who do not want to adapt to Face ID and no home button in 2017.

I’ve been testing angles. I can activate the phone 14inches vertically below my face with the camera 11 inches horizontally away.

This creates about a 45degree angle from my face.

So quit ragging on wireless charging on the 8/8+ like it's exclusive to those models.
I'm going to rag on it because it's not something that's worth an $800-$1000 purchase. It's gimmicky. You trade one inconvenience for another. I'm sorry the phone you can use while it charges is the one that gets used.

You have a problem with your logic, and that's assuming that everyone on the planet is coming from a 7, which arguably, most are not.

So an OLED screen that will get burn in is better than a screen that won't get burn in? How many apps are ready right now for the iPhone X? You are paying $1000+ to beta test a new phone that will spend the next year getting ready for prime time. Next year the X2 will have all the apps ready and all the polish from the lessons learned. Enjoy trying to justify your purchase. The fact that you are doing so.just confirms you made a mistake on that purchase.

Basically this. No matter how good Face ID is today (seems to have its share of issues from what people are posting), it WILL have version 2 in a year or two and be MUCH better (like Touch ID version 1 vs 2) and then the X will really feel like the beta product it is, nevermind the burn in or the off axis color shift problems. The only superior things about the X screen right now are the black levels and the PPI, the latter of which can easily be done with an LCD. Not even the color or brightness are any different than my 8, which is pretty disappointing considering the ugly trade offs OLED comes with. For the trade offs of OLED, I want the screen to blow me away, and simply put, Apple didn't go that route with the X. Functionally it's no different than a high PPI LCD, it just has slightly better black levels, and more potential problems as a trade off.

I'm going to rag on it because it's not something that's worth an $800-$1000 purchase. It's gimmicky. You trade one inconvenience for another. I'm sorry the phone you can use while it charges is the one that gets used.

I use wireless charging every single night. I charge my phone overnight, and never have to worry about battery or using it while it's on the charging pad. I'm not glued to my phone 24/7 because there's a world out there to live my life in. Go to bed, phone goes on the pad overnight. Wake up, it's full and ready for a day's use.

You have a 7 and an X? So really, if you think about it, the 7 was the most undesirable/pathetic upgrade between the 6/6S/7/8 family. The 7 was the gimmick in that series, not the refined and polished 8.

Anyway threads like this should go straight to wasteland. So tired of X owners crapping all over 8 owners when they would've been first in line to buy one if the 8 was the only phone available this year. The X isn't much better, and is the worst performing phone of the 8/8+/X because it has the same processor but has the most demanding screen to drive - don't worry, in time the X will show its beta status, guaranteed.

You have to be a truly be afraid of change to use either of those compromise devices. Why pay nearly $1000/US for what is essentially the same phone you already have? Are people just wanting to give a trillion dollar company almost $1000/US as it makes them feel better about themselves?

Another person trying to justify his overpriced purchase. Or are you just trolling?

No it’s called physics. Apple can’t produce enough iPhone Xs. I’m sorry if you thought there was some other deeper meaning.

I have to say I 100% disagree, and this is after rocking both an X and an 8+ all weekend. I bought both so i could do a bake off, so no money issues. The X is just legitimately a worse phone than the 8+. The 8+ is so smooth, so fluid, everything is lightning fast, the screen is better with no yellow tint like the x (TT off on both). No blue shift on the 8+. No chance of burn-in on the 8+. Videos are 2x bigger and fill the whole screen on the 8+. Battery is way better on the 8+. Way better.

The X is a beta product, rushed to market with inferior OLED tech that Apple used to crap all over, but was forced to use since the tech to do this little bezel with LCD isnt here, but the shortcomings of OLED havent gone away. Also, Face ID is a cool novelty, but it really isnt as fast as touchID. As one article put it: "FaceID is the answer to a question no one asked".

Displaymate says its the best display theyve ever tested. I believe them and my own eyes over a rando on the internet.

Apple's goal is to sell iPhones. Having the X for early adopters who are willing and able to spend the cash gets one group of people to buy, having a tried and true model with similar specs at a lower cost gets another group. It's really quite simple. I'm certain that releasing the X and the 8/8+ resulted in more iPhones being purchased this year than if they had released either model alone.

Maybe you should stop using the iphone, and look elsewhere? Seems like a common sense thing to do.
