I am honestly not mad at them. I waited outside 2 days for a PS3, so I have nothing against guys who camp...but 4 days is 2 days too many. Plus, they gave out the PS3's in the morning...im more angry about the ripple effect this will have
I think a ripple effect will occur, but in really big cities. Don't expect giant lines at AT&T stores. I think this was expected to see lines in front of major Apple stores a few days early, not too shocking.

You waited 2 days for a PS3, where most of the people I know who camped for it camped for 3-4 days. Many lines formed very early for it.

Everyone wants an iPhone a little more then someone else. Most people would even think that going the night before is excessive. To each their own, I hope this ends up on the news so they get their 10 minutes of fame :D

3-4 Days? And youre in Jersey? The lines in front of most of the best buys in NYC didnt really start until the 15th.... Crazy...

Still, i believe where im going wont have a line until friday....no one in that neighborhood seems to care about iPhone

I don't want to sound greedy, but there is no way I would post a thread, saying where to pick up an iphone in the city I live in. Maybe once I ensure I'm one of the top 5 inline, lol.

I share your pain, OP. Maybe it's because I'm in Canada so I couldn't get The Phone even if I wanted to, maybe it's because I never buy the first-of, still-with-kinks, shiny new toy, but I'm conflicted by this hype. On the one hand, I agree with your amusement; on the other hand, I own Apple stock, so the capitalist me says, "bling it on":D

The funniest thing is they have said pretty much ANYONE who wants a phone will be able to get one within 3-5 days of Launch.

So it seems odd to start waitng to get one 4 days before launch.

I spent 7 hrs waiting for the Wii on day 1. I had no idea why I was waiting in line for with a bunch of kids and their parents.

Hope those 2 have their MBPs with them.

for all we know, people ran down and sat down in chairs while their friend ran and took the pic.. and they posted it, and now are famous because of us jumping to conclusions... who knows

If I was those guys I would have found some iphone site to sponsor my camp out and get some money out of it, either that or just have tons of sponsors give me money to put their logos on my clothing. I'm always trying to make a buck, but hey, you could get all your iphone money while waiting for the iphone. Geez I need to go buy some shirt iron-ons now!

Ya, used to live in NJ. The line at the Best Buy in Brick was started by 2 girls. Friend of mine was driving by a few times a day to see when the line started, he wasn't expected it to start for at least another 2 days. Out of nowhere, he called me up and said it was officially starting the camp and I needed to pick up supplies for him. By the next morning, there was like 10 people in line. By that night, the line was closer to 30 people. Since I was bringing people supplies, they held my place in line. (I camped the last 2 nights only)

The morning of release, there was close to 50 people in line. When the manager came out to announce the numbers, there was this older lady yelling at him that she had been there all morning and she would never shop at Best Buy again because they didn't have enough. Of course, the entire line laughed at her.

Was still a blast, we did nothing but sit there and drink all night long.

If you are interested, I actually have pictures from the camp session over at: http://web.mac.com/joped/iWeb/Site/Best%20Buy%20-%20PS3.html

The photo was from a building next to the Apple store, I dont think that was the case.

why anyone would que outside a store for any product for any length of time knowing that it will be available in tons of stores almost days later and most likely cheaper at a later date is totally beyond me.

is it really that important to that little broken ego that you need to have the first iPhone, PS3 or Harry Potter DVD before anyone else??

Since you started queing, poeple have died of starvation whilst queing for food.

get a grip on reality you morons

I think camping out for a not-limited production item is stupid. I mean, sure, I didn't get a Wii until January, but I didn't skip class just to wait in line.

Now, if the thing is in limited supply (concert tickets, platinum-plated console, etc.), then go right ahead.

Could they be getting paid by Apple (or an Apple ad agency) to sit there so far ahead of time to create even more hype (if that's possible) and nervousness about the availability of the iPhone?

I don't see anyone in their right mind doing that. Surely, if they want an iPhone so bad, then why would they camp out at THE flagship Apple store. They should just go to some small midwest town with an AT&T store and start the line on Friday.

It's definitely possible.

Although, if that were the case, I think they'd try and make it a little more obvious (e.g. tents, etc.).

lol, I don't know if they even need to make it more obvious. I've heard people that don't care at all about Apple/gadgets in general talking about how they heard there was a line outside the Apple store, so the news traveled around quickly.

Are we sure they are there for the iPhone? Someone on this forum has to be close to 5th Avenue, could you go ask please? :)

That's my plan and I've worked very hard controlling the information revolving around it. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag, now I'll have to resort to plan B. :)

lol, I LIVE in one of those midwest towns so it's quite easy for me. Sorry for letting the secret out. :p
