I've just tried your video and a couple of other 4K videos through Safari and they're all at or close to
2560x1350 @ 30Hz which reduces to 1920x1012 @ 30Hz in the small screen.

there
I think the closest in the Windows world is the new XPS 13, but that has a weaker (Intel) CPU and a worse GPU.
the Dell 13” XPS from 2019 has a reliable core that featured a very good cooling system.
the screen had a great image and the over construction is very sturdy and wont slide off a desk by a cat.
the silver design is very beautiful and sleek.
i wish i could hackintosh that note book.

Yes on your attachment you dropped over 3000 frames in 5000!!!
That's a lot :)
My problem was probably due to the frame rate drop from the AT&T fiber router. Too late now as I have started the attempt to reinstall BS. Apple sure likes to make it complicated to install the OS. Fingers crossed. If reinstall is successful and I stil don’t see 4K with Safari on YT, I will leave it be. Lol

Using the terminal method to download BS.

Thanks for the help, gents. I won’t clutter the thread anymore.

Edited to add: Still liking my M1 :D

It does look like your internet connection was to blame. As @matrix07 says your connection was slow at that time.
I would have thought the option to re-install from the recovery environment would have been good on yours. No?
You didn't delete the drive in Disk Utility did you?

I followed this support document. I may have screwed up again. Lol I didn’t delete the drive but, I did erase.

I used the second stage of that guide (not the Apple Configurator bit) and it worked fine but that was with a USB installer I made.
So you used "erase mac" twice?
It should still be fine :)

It looks like I will have to rename the disk as it says BS will be installed on the disk “Untitled.” Lol 59 minutes to go. Connection on Apple’s side keeps getting slower. Heavy traffic on servers.

I should have gone with my gut instinct about the connection. On the bright side, I have given myself some practical experience a new M1.

Indeed :)
The installer told me it would take 1 hour and 3 minutes but it actually took about 40 - 45 minutes.
Bon voyage :)
You can reanme the drive later with disk utility from the recovery environment. You may have to mount the first drive.
If you rename the Main (HD) one it might also rename the Data one too.
It did for me one time but didn't the other.

This is the first laptop since the MacBook Air 2011, where it feels like it won't fail on whatever kind of task you put on it, but at the same time it does a lot of tasks on a whole 'nother level.

The Air really feels like an iPad in terms of performance and snappiness despite running full desktop apps. I really love my iPad and it is really nice to have the Mac feel like an iPad in its niceness while have the power to drive true desktop class apps and being able to run a 4k screen like it was nothing.

Most amazing thing is the battery life and the fact that is beating iOS devices in daily use. 2 months ago if someone would tell me there are these fast machines that are silent and can run around the battery life of an iPad with this kind of power, it would be crazy.

Switching to what is essentially an iPad Pro CPU, the battery life, thermals and silence are already things I had anticipated.

I think the thing I'm most impressed with is compatibility and performance with x86 apps considering there's typically a steep performance penalty when it comes to emulation. It's crazy that some x86 apps are running faster on M1 than they are on Core i3/i5.

I agree, though for me there is a difference in anticipating it and actually using it and then knowing that you have the power of a Mac while enjoying the quality of life of an iOS device.

Like you can just be watching Netflix for 4 hours, then you just forgot to do something at work, then run your Pro apps, for 2-3 hours, then once you are done, go back to watching Netflix or wait, maybe play CS Go, on that same device that feels iOS light!

How the Mac scales from trivial note taking tasks to suddenly running whatever pro demand you need on a whim, while still being the same nice device is what makes it amazing.

My iPad has the niceties, but not the power that is a command tab away.

On that I absolutely agree. I was super giddy not to have the regular fan noise that's pretty much just part and parcel with laptops. I could put the M1 MBA on the comforter without worrying it'll overheat like I do with Intel and AMD.

Well said! Just think that if Apple hadn't made their own chips. Still buying from Samsung or Qualcomm today we would still use a hot Intel laptop in 2020. Consider we all very lucky.

I am indeed thankful for Apple creating the new M1 chip. It is so weird (in a good way) being able to use the Mac all day and it remain cool and silent no matter what I do.
