Just be happy Apple didn’t update the design and put a notch on the iPads.

You know Apple will do it with the next redesign.

Now I’m confused, so apart from some poorly placed camera’s and battery life (an issue for all manufacturers, so hence a non issue) you’d actually be HAPPY to buy it. Which is it ?

From now on can you think maybe twice before you hit post on these original threads. See what emotions are driving you and whether it’s really necessary to have this kind of discussion.

I think I was pretty clear. If they’d move the camera and improve battery life I’d be happy to purchase it. Doesn’t seem too hard to understand. Without those things it’s just a tiny spec bump.

And maybe think twice about posting THREE FOUR times in a thread you’ve deemed “unnecessary.”

I think I agree with KevCube in this one - the sheer anger and frustration and nihilistic, end of the world black and white declarations that comes out means the person is out to rant and spew their emotions as opposed to participate in constructive discussion.

Lol Ok. Not sure I declared it the end of the world. I said it was their worst iPad update to date. Maybe that means the end of the world to you. And your superior than thou posts are definitely constructive. Keep up the great work!!!

I had the iPad Pro 10.5 (2gen). It have served me well, but the screen started flickering, so I was time for a new iPad. And that became the iPad Pro 11" M2 256GB.

So when doing an upgrade with this much time apart, it't not a bad upgrade

Why on earth would you even wanna purchase a new iPad every year anyway ?

I agree with what most people have said above. If your iPad is already many years old and/or you’re experiencing battery, screen or any other kind of issues, the M2 iPad is definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

I generally wait 3-4 years between upgrades. My first iPad was the 3rd gen, then the 6th gen and now the M1. Some may even see this as upgrading too often however I balance the cost of a new one vs selling my old one and this has been the best cost/benefit timeframe for me. Of course, everyone’s situation will vary.

Apple tends to consolidate its product lineup into something simple to understand - an expensive Pro option and a standard really good option (still expensive but less so).

Examples are iPhone and iPhone Pro, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, AirPods and AirPods Pro etc.

In iPad world there is
- iPad Mini
- iPad normal
- iPad Air
- iPad Pro

The iPad lineup currently has:
  • $329 iPad 9th gen
  • $449 iPad 10th gen
  • $499 iPad mini
  • $599 iPad Air
  • $799 iPad Pro 11"
  • $1099 iPad Pro 12.9"
From 2017 to 2021, the lineup was simpler still since there was only one regular iPad.

The iPhone lineup currently has:
  • $429 iPhone SE
  • $599 iPhone 12
  • $599 iPhone 13 mini
  • $699 iPhone 13
  • $799 iPhone 14
  • $899 iPhone 14 Plus
  • $999 iPhone 14 Pro
  • $1099 iPhone 14 Pro Max

If you consider the following relative hierarchy, I don't see why you'd consider the iPad lineup to be significantly more complicated than the iPhone lineup.

Entry Level
iPad -> iPhone SE

Mid-Range
iPad mini -> iPhone mini
iPad Air -> iPhone

High End
iPad Pro 11 -> iPhone Pro
iPad Pro 12.9 -> iPhone Pro Max

Maybe the mini is just about justifiable as a tiny tablet that has its uses but you could combine the two just in an iPhone Plus / Pro Max and have the best of both worlds.

Personally, I prefer iPhone SE/mini + iPad mini combo over just an iPhone 14 Plus/Pro Max. I find the displays on the big iPhone Plus/Pro Max to be too small still and I'm just not a fan of the 2:1 aspect ratio.

All in all for a segment that greatly divides people (tablets are just consumer devices, never really achieving highly useful status except drawing some images) why would Apple soak this segment in so many products that are far too similar to each other. This has always confounded me and I’m not the only one.

Guessing lower profit margins on the entry level iPads, low unit sales on the higher end models. Hitting multiple price point targets is likely Apple's way of maximizing profits and unit sales (which also helps with services revenue) for the iPad line.

Releasing a new device just because every year or every cycle whatever is going to be extremely far more redundant than now in 2077…. And we are already there.. Let’s hope they don’t be pulling this stunt again. •Magic Keyboard for pro W/function keys
•Apple Pencil 3 •Landscape Camera •OLED •Pro Apps etc The fact the M1 pro was out so long 1.5 years?? and the base iPad got some of that list above in features but M2 didn’t is criminal frankly. I feel you OP 🥲🤕🫡

Yes and no - negativity can foster attention and increase clicks but it also might lead to change - endless negative news on our climate is manifesting as climate protests and an electing of green politics in Europe at least which I see somewhat as a positive. Just depends on your level of cynicism.
The OP was saying “they don’t get all the negative news.” The reason for the negative news is, essentially, negativity gets attention. Even the climate change movement understands that. A plea of ,”If we make things better, just look at all these wonderful things we would be able to keep and enjoy,” is not a message that would get much attention. “WE TESTED AIR IN 5 MAJOR CITIES AND YOUR BREATHING MAY BE KILLING YOU! -click here-“ Would get a LOT more attention due to its negative tone.

So, seeing a lot of negative Apple news doesn’t really say anything about the state of Apple news, it just provides insight on how Apple news presents itself in order for those sites to stay up and running.

Put some Aloe on the burn and you'll be fine just like you were with the 2020 small upgrade.

Sear was probably far too strong/incorrect of a word. And I have the 2020… upgraded from the Air 2. The 2020 was big upgrade on the 2018 anyways imo. Either way don’t actually care. point being this was the most non existant of all iterations to this point of an iPad refresh. Pencil hover and m2 and Bluetooth 5.3. that’s it. Terrible.

You should be happy that you can save money this year by not upgrading.
