I wouldn't expect a bigger update until 2024 and knowing Apple they will leave out a few bells and whistles for the 2025 update and so on.
There really is ONLY so much you can do with a tablet and a smartphone. Currently we are at the point of diminishing returns with these gadgets. It’s no longer 2007 or 2010 for the iPhone or iPad. This is no different than the video game or the movies industry. And as the ideas slow, so do the massive updates from one generation to another. In other words, companies tend to milk it till it’s dry.
At some point you will have pretty much seen it all. It takes something totally out of left field to grab one’s attention. It happens but as the industry matures it takes longer and longer to see something fresh.
We know we are at diminishing returns when Apple is highlighting different colors for the iPad and iPhones. The same thing happened with the iPod.
That's.... not how cellular ipads work. It is meant to have its own data plan. You know you're the first person I met that actually uses a cellular model iPad. Thing is, most people wouldn't go out of their way to pull the SIM card out of their phone to put it in the iPad for that use case, especially since that takes calling away. If they're on eSIM then hooooo boy that's another can of worms.
Who said you couldn't?That holds true for all walks of life. Doesn't mean you can't express your opinion on something.
I don't care about benchmarks either. I don't own an M2 iPad and don't plan to buy one.I don't care about benchmarks, and no one should.
I think it’s because “voting with your wallet” really only works if there’s a critical mass of people that think the way to do and vote the same way. As far as the iPad goes, we’re 10 years into it. At this point there’s MORE of a chance that someone buying an iPad has either used one before and liked it or has never used an Apple product before and so wouldn’t be comparing it to macOS. That means that the folks “voting with their wallets” are buying what Apple’s selling and it would make sense for Apple to keep doing what they’re doing. Why be pressed about other's iPad buying habits? Can someone who actually spends time thinking about such things...why? What does it do for you? I'm trying to understand, not saying you "shouldn't" do it...asking why you would.
Yep, and they are holding it for the next redesign of the iPad Pro, which will likely happen in 2024 with the addition of OLED screensNo I get that. I do think there are changes that can be made though. The camera placement/front camera quality and battery life are a few that come to mind that would make the iPad vastly improved.
How dare they.I really don't know what Apple was thinking here. They clearly only released this iPad because they feel like they have to release a new device every year for each product category. I just don't understand why they released this.
I guess I really don't know what the M2 iPad Pro is or who its for. Apple has made some pointless updates before, but this one might be the most pointless update they've ever made. There is literally zero difference between this model and the M1 iPad Pro. The M2 is not going to be faster than the M1 but literally maybe 1 or 2 seconds when doing heavy video work. There is no improvement in battery life, no improvement in the screen, no improvement in front facing camera...Hover is simply a software feature that Apple could turn on for the other iPads, but of course they won't.
There isn't a single redeeming quality about this device that makes it an appealing buy. And I love Apple products and upgrade pretty often when I feel its warranted. The 2021 model with mini LED was enough for me to upgrade from the 2018 model, so its not like I keep devices long term to squeeze every drop of usage out of them. I like giving Apple my money for upgrades, when they are worthy. The M2 iPad has got to be the laziest iPad Apple has ever released, and that includes the much maligned iPad 3. I mean they tout pro res video but its not even capable without a 3rd party app. Its a total mess of a product.
Even the 11" model, which I don't even use, is comically bad. Apple again used a cheaper screen in that model to try and push people to the larger device. Its ridiculous that they don't put the same screen hardware in both models but still call both models "Pro."
In summary, the M2 iPad Pro will go down as the worst upgrade Apple has ever done with the iPads. And before everyone starts saying "Well its not designed for M1 users," yes I know. Anyone coming from a non-M1 iPad shouldn't buy this either. They should just buy an M1 iPad Pro because you are getting literally the exact same device for far less money. Its a bad product and Apple only released this because they felt like they had to. Its lazy and buy this time next year it will have been the absolute worst buy of any Apple product as it will be replaced with a proper update. I love Apple and their products, but the iPad line has become a complete mess and that is too bad, because its one of my favorite things Apple makes.
Because this is a forum for Apple enthusiasts where we discuss/give opinions regarding Apple products?I don't care about benchmarks either. I don't own an M2 iPad and don't plan to buy one.
So, with that out of the way: why "shouldn't" anyone care about benchmarks?!?
I don't have any problem with your opinion on benchmarks, I share it! What I think is funny/baffling is how so many people aren't satisfied with "the value proposition/whatever doesn't work for me", and leaving it at that.
What's with this seeming compulsion (not just talking solely about your post, OP there are many similar all over this forum), people have to prescribe their opinion onto others? To take an individual calculation and broaden it beyond themselves? What's the goal/purpose there? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
I don't care about benchmarks. I care even less about how others view them, and what their personal value calculation is.
If it's worth it to someone, they should buy it. If it isn't, they shouldn't.
Why be pressed about other's iPad buying habits? Can someone who actually spends time thinking about such things...why? What does it do for you? I'm trying to understand, not saying you "shouldn't" do it...asking why you would.
Accept all the people who do actually care. The 48mp lens provides significantly more detail and overall, a vastly improved image for those shooting in ProRAW. This is a pro phone and to make an assumption that people don't use or need the extra MP is simply ignorant.Nobody actually cares about MP on the camera. Unless you're blowing up the picture for a billboard, you don't need more than 12 MP.
I'm using a M1 Pro 12.9 inch and it works flawlessly for me and is a neat way to manage multi tasking. Not sure why it wouldn't function for you, unless you are blindly looking for things to whinge about if they don't suit your narrative?Stage Manager barely functions
Calm down. We get the same stupid update to the iPhone every year except they do something with the camera that only 2% of people will actually care about (except nerds).
The Dynamic Island is the largest major change to the iPhone since the X. Processor increases are becoming marginal as A-Series matures. Nobody actually cares about MP on the camera. Unless you're blowing up the picture for a billboard, you don't need more than 12 MP.
...
Major update for me…. Coming from a gen 1 iPad circa 2010
It has been a delightful replacement for our 9-year-old iPad Mini, so, it feels like a pretty substantial upgrade from that.
I don’t understand why people feel year over year upgrades have to be a big change. The M2 iPad isn’t marketed at people with an M1 iPad. Apple makes these gradual upgrades so that way when you buy the product you have the latest current technology. Sure they could just wait longer and upgrade to M4 but then if you bought the M1 right before M4 came out, you would be further behind. With gradual updates when you buy the product it’ll still be current.
This is like saying the 2023 Toyota Corolla, is the worst upgrade over the 2022 Toyota Corolla. Toyota isn’t marketing the 2023 Corolla at customers who currently owns the 2022 model. It’s for someone who has a 2018 Corolla. It’s the same thing with the M2 iPad.
