My next Apple laptop will be when Apple Silicon breaks 2000 single core / 16000 multi core on Geekbench and 100,000 in the Metal Compute Test.

Kudos to apple for a 6 year old design being as good as it is in todays world.

BUT

The M2 MBP is clearly the end of an era, the last stopgap before a MacBook or MacBook Studio with a larger screen and single fan design replace it.

Gotta sell off those chassis, touchbars, and boxes.

But, those who need a fan, like me, would have to go that route. I could get by with M2 and a fan, but will stick with MBP because I could not buy an old design at the end of its life.

That would bother me to no end.

People keep saying the whole "sell off chassis and what not"; however, these are the same people that in other words praise Apple on being king of handling a tight supply chain with few overages. Which is it?

I have a 14" M1 MBP, it doesn't have a Touch Bar (it's an option) and anyone who thinks reverting to the MagSafe power connector is a backward step needs their head read.
To me, the MBP is the result of years of fine tuning, now with a Micro Card reader, HDMI port, larger track pad and three USB-C ports is the result of Apple listening to their users and is the best MBP model I've ever had.
PS, the case is different and the speakers are significantly better than the 2015 model I had.

They are managing a very tight supply chain of silicon wafers. The whole industry has suffered from a shortage of wafers.

Not all components have been tight. They are M2 putting stickers on top of the M1 boxes, so they definitely had plenty of those built when they switched to M2.

So cheap boxes and expensive chasis are mismanaged, but wafers are not? Got it. Goes to show people just like to criticize the 13” MBP with no real foundation.

I think that specific model is for business users (not power users)—the longest battery life. My workplace is still using MacBook Pro 13.

It seems like the 13” MacBook Pro with M2 was a fall back plan. Apple needed something to fill the gap because what they have planned for that spot wasn’t ready yet. Whether it was the rumored 15” MacBook Air/Studio or a 14” MacBook Pro with the M2 — who knows.

The pandemic & supply chain issues have really thrown a wrench into everyone’s plans. Apple was planning on the M2 Air coming out far sooner than it did. Back in 2021 with the new MacBook Pros on the horizon it was thought the 13” MacBook Pro would be replaced by a low-end 14” MacBook Pro.

It still has the old design from 2016
You are paying at least $1300 for a 6-year-old design that still has the touch bar. Now, there is basically no gap whatsoever from the M2 MBA to the 13-inch MBP.
I guess I'm unusual, but I genuinely don't see how six years is that long. You want old, I manage my websites, write my written media, edit my images, and watch my videos with a PowerBook G4, and even that's not exactly what I'd call "retro" -- TLS 1.3 and DDR2 in the gigabytes are not traits of "retro". SDR or maybe DDR1, sure.
Most people would be perfectly happy to use a six year old computer (a 7700K/1060 combo is still pretty much standard) -- and this is keeping in mind that the computer itself is at most two years old if you don't count the M1->M2 transition. The only actual "outdatedness" I can tell, besides the Touch Bar, is the size of the bezel, which sure isn't as small as my G4 (or especially a Titanium G4), but realistically isn't a big deal in any way. Otherwise, the two chasses seem pretty much identical in styling to me.
Sure, you can get extra height from the notch, but just making the laptop deeper to accomodate a taller screen would do the same thing and you wouldn't have to deal with the notch with fullscreen software.
However, the 13" Pro does have active cooling and a thicker chassis offering a bigger battery -- in highly optimistic scenarios, netting you a few hours more.
