Still USB 2.0 transfer speeds. So they want us to edit RAW images and 4K HDR/DV videos on phone itself. But they also need to be transferred to PC/Mac for further tuning. But at USB 2.0 transfer speeds, a 20 GB uncompressed video will take:

20 GB x 1024 MB / 28 MBps = 731 sec (12 Minutes)

But on 3 year old Google Pixel 2 which supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds over USB-C:

20 GB x 1024 MB / 200 MBps = 102 sec (1 Min and 42 sec)

I find this downright disgusting. I am sure fans here will defend USB 2.0 speeds saying that how Apple is saving the earth by being carbon neutral and slow speeds are for our own good... whatever spin they can put on it.

But I will still find this downright disgusting.

The disgusting thing is Apple already showed it can do USB3 transfer speeds over that Lightning to USB-C cable a couple years ago when they introduced it along with the iPad Pro line. They just cheaped out and didn't include the necessary controller chip onboard.

The only reason to stick to the outdated lightning port is to extract as much of revenue from the dying standard by selling cables. Btw I can get usb 3 speeds from iPad Pro 10.5 when using the camera connection kit. But it’s hacky and people will laugh at your contraption.

I hope they’ll remove that disgusting lightning port next year, haven’t used the port in years. Everything gets uploaded to the cloud automatically and is accessible on all my devices.

the AP has never encouraged transfering vid/photos over to the Mac for further twiddling. To them it's a toy but they try to convince us it's a serious tool.

I think they are done investing in the iPhone ports. Rumor is next year will have no port, remember. So they are not upping Lightning and they are skipping USB C now that they have pioneered an excellent wireless fast charge magnet for 15W charging. I think for certain we will be hearing all about wireless upgrades as we go.
