The Moto X+1

Rumors have started picking up on this phone. This is the latest one I've seen:

Right now it doesn't look like we know too much about this phone besides a possible summer release. I am definitely looking forward to it. Might get it to replace my Nexus 5 which I am disliking more and more each day.

What do you all think?

Leaked screen shot. Unfortunately we don't know if the price is $400 or if, because of the "-" sign, it is a $600 phone that when bought on contract will take off $400 to make for an on contract price of $200.

Moto X² and Moto 360 for late summer - a possible combined release. Not sure how much Google has hamstrung this version of the Moto X or if they let Motorola have free reign this time around? Safe bet for hardware will be a 1080p screen, 2gb RAM, Snapdragon 801 CPU, and a 5" display. To keep costs down we'll likely see the same camera specs and storage specs.

You think they are going to try and be cheaper than all other flagships? Around the $450 range? Also, what are your thoughts on batter? In the past Motorola has been known for great battery life. I'm hoping they keep that up.

Google will undercut them with the Nexus 6, would be my guess. $400 unlocked is still a great price though for the X². Battery life should be similar to the X, which I can say is okay (not great) with roughly 3 hours of screen on time the way I use phones. Roughly a half hour less than my previous iPhone 5 use.

I just hope Motorola continues adding unique features to it and doesn't try to get in the specs race. I like specs as much as the next guy, but the Moto X succeeded because it didn't try to shove massive specs everywhere and did something different.

I'm thinking my next phone will either be this or the iPhone 6. I was considering the OnePlus One, but its just too big. My main concern is battery life, and with all the rumors of the iPhone 6 being so thin, I'm not convinced battery life will be all that great.

I'm on the same both. I hope I like the X+1 because the iPhone 6 rumors haven't impressed me at all, so far.

A possible GFXBench benchmark for the X+1 lists it as 5.2 inch. That is the only rumor about the screen size I've seen.

With the name only changing from Moto X to Moto X+1, I've seen some people saying that it won't be a big upgrade. Kind of like an "s" upgrade so to speak. As long as there is a big improvement in battery life, I'll be fine either way.

Very interested to see what the new model is like as the Moto X is a great phone.

I still have my 5S but haven't touched it since getting the Moto X.

My only two gripes with the Moto X were battery life and camera. The size and feel of the phone were perfect. They did a fantastic job putting a 4.7" screen in a comfortably body. The HTC One M7, despite the same size screen, felt much bigger. Also, I was perfectly happy with 720p.

Have you downloaded the latest Google Camera update? Controls are very simplified and it seems like my Moto X is taken better pics. Could be my imagination though? placebo effect. But the new controls are very Apple-esque in the way the camera now operates. I like it.

I have since returned my Moto X. Pictures might look a little better, but there is only so much you can do software wise.

When I had mine, I could typically get through a full day. On heavier days I couldn't. And on average days I got pretty close to running out of battery, closer than I would have liked. I would love to see them try and fit a 3,000 mAh battery in a 4.7-5" phone. Especially if they are upping the resolution to 1080. Hopefully they will keep using AMOLED screens to help save battery as well. To me that is more important than color accuracy.

I don't know what you are doing with your phone, but my battery is fine. I get a day and a half of use as well. By the end of the day, I typically have 40% after charging the whole night. On heavy use, I can run the battery down. On light use, I can leave work with above 60%.

As a caveat, I use my moto x on 3G. Lte might drain the battery a lot faster. Did you have battery save mode turn on with your wifi, bluetooth and nfc off? I have those settings in mine.

I think for the moto x+1, I'd like to see:

-same screen size (4.7" is the largest I'll want to go)
-smaller bezels (jealous of the looks of LG G2)
-improved touchless control (even with 3 mics, touchless control is kind of terrible)

If they keep everything else the same, I wouldn't mind. I might even upgrade early. I think it's really hard to 'innovate' with every iteration of a phone without seeming too gimmicky, so I won't crucify Motorola for not coming out with another innovative feature. If they could improve on existing features, I'd be so happy.

Perhaps they could improve the camera, but it's really not a priority for me as I don't shoot too many pictures with my phone. That said, it seems somewhat pointless to have the quick access with the gesture if the camera sucks.

Me too, I never use LTE on any phone as I almost never get full signal strength and that's a killer for battery life.

I try not to cripple my phone. I want my phone to fit me and my usage, not the other way around. The Moto X had decent battery life. But that's it.

If the price is right and the screen size similar, I'd be tempted.

Otherwise waiting to see what the iPhone 6 has to offer.

If this comment was in reply to mine above your post, it applies to any phone. The exact same thing happens with my iPhone 5S with LTE enable.

Actually it's not an LTE thing really, it's just when you have low signal strength is has a dramatic effect on battery life. I switch my phones to 3G as I never see to get full strength LTE.

Sounds like the Droid Maxx... if only they would release that phone for the other carriers.

It would be nice and it is a nice feature to have. Would be even nicer if you could load apps to it, like I can with my Lumia 1520.
