I recently got a Moto X for work, and I must say, after getting it set up and getting used to it, I'm quite enjoying Android. The camera is a bit lackluster, however, but everything else about the device has become quite a joy to use.

My personal phone is a 5C, but if the new Moto X makes the right improvements, I could see myself going all Android.

That's all I hear about the X. I take virtually no pictures with my camera, so a shoddy camera is a non-issue. Almost pulled the trigger, but decided to wait after I heard rumors of this phone. Dat wood back makes it awfully tempting to just do it, though.

Unfortunately my work Moto X is plain ol' black. Wish I could've picked out my own colors!

This phone is now my last hope to upgrade from my SGS3 this year.

Don't want a huge phone.

If they do the bezels right I think they could fit a 5.2" screen (which is currently rumored) into the size of the Nexus 5, if not smaller. One of the problems with the Nexus 5 is the bottom bezel. It is just unnecessarily large. The Moto X has a fairly small bottom bezel that helps make landscape typing more symmetrical. So if Motorola does the same thing and keeps the bottom bezel small, then I think a 5.2" screen could be fit in a Nexus 5 body.

I hardly see how you can say it is "unnecessarily large". I doubt they made it that size for the fun of it.

They made it the size required in order to fit all components into the phone as they designed it....

Anyways, we get it - you hate the Nexus 5 for many reasons - the most serious of which is that its bottom bezel is a couple of mm too big.

I hope you aren't so naive as to think the only way to make a phone is with the big bottom bezel that is present on the Nexus 5. Taking half a second to look at a Moto X would prove you wrong.

Care to state where exactly I said the most serious issue with the Nexus 5 is the bottom bezel? Sounds to me like you are making stuff up. Not like you've never done that before ;)

---

My previous comment was about how Motorola could make a phone with a slightly larger screen than the Nexus 5 while retaining roughly the same dimensions. Maybe you just didn't read it that well ;)

Okay. Today, I concluded that moto x+1 needs a 4th microphone (or better microphones/noise cancellation). the moto x is just not picking up on my "Okay, Google Now". The voice command is so frustrating, I might turn it off soon even though it is the best on the market today.

Sad.

Also, many people use only instagram, so the 10 MP camera and shoddy images doesn't really affect anything if you put a blurry filter on top anyway. You can also crop the 10 MP and filter it and it'd still look the same.

Motorola knows what's up.

Speaking of cropping, can someone do that movie zoom thing so I can see what I'm supposed to be looking at. Just looks like any other smartphone.

Zoom. Good. Now rotate 30 degrees to the left. Enhance. Raise contrast and lower blur. De-noise. Okay, now raise saturation. Sharpen. Perfect.

When I had a Moto X it seemed to be pretty hit or miss as well. But I never noticed a substantial battery difference after turning it off so I just left it on all the time just in case it decided to work.

The frustrating part is, when there is a loud noise, it will ask me what's up. But when i'm talking softly, or shouting at it, it decides to ignore me. It's like a b*tchy girlfriend for lack of a better word.

Yep, concur. But it isn't limited to the Moto X. Try doing a similar command with Cortana or Siri in a semi-loud environment. Unless, you hold the phone close and speak louder than the ambient noise, none of the phones get the command right about 90% of the time.

I def think the mics need to be directional and have a dedicated core specifically for gain and noise canceling, vice dumb omnidirectional mics. This is where deca-core CPUs become a necessity. Basically, this is the breakdown:
4 graphics processor cores
2 application processor cores
4 low-power cores (active listening for Google now and noise-canceling/mic directional guidance)

This isn't just for Android phones either. Apple and WP should implement this sort of thing too IMO. All 3 OS's have personal AI assistants that could benefit.

I don't have experience with Cortana so I can't say there. But I have found that for both Google Now and Siri once it starts accepting my voice it is typically pretty good. It is just that the always listening features on both my Moto X and my current Nexus 5 have not been consistent. This inconsistency might be why Apple has been hesitant to incorporate this feature themselves.

My only real complaint with my Moto X is the screen. If they stay with AMOLED in the X+1, I hope they use one that is as bright as the one in the Galaxy S5, and I hope they also offer screen mode options like the Galaxy S5. If they don't do that, then I'll probably pass. I've already put my SIM card back in my iPhone 5S and have stopped using the Moto X. I just can't stand the dim screen and the over saturated colors. Everything has a red tint. I'd prefer they put an LCD panel in it, but I doubt that will happen.

They'd lose Active Display if they went LCD, right? If that's the case, I don't foresee that happening.

I'm more interested in how they'll improve the camera.

The Droid Mini has active display and an LCD screen. The battery life might suffer, but if the X+1 has a larger 5.2-inch screen, then a larger battery would make up for it.

I really like mine and for the price you simply cannot beat it...in my opinion. I haven't touched my 5S since I got the Moto X about 5 weeks ago.

Agree about the camera but it's certainly not terrible. Other than that it's just about perfect for me, very loud loudspeaker and the vibration is very strong.

The right edge of the screen looks really dang sharp. To me, it looks too sharp to be a straight up photograph.

It's a fake. Someone's just photoshopped a bigger screen on existing x. The fact that left edge is narrower than right is proof it's just a poor fake.
