i've got most settings on high, shadows and lighting is on medium. it seems fine to me.

just bought it and used your settings but its still laggy and at times a little unresponsive?

latest version of OSX and i have way over the minimum specs they listed for the game yet it doesnt even play with the settings on low? Odd

Plus, not sure if i can be bothered with it now lol, seems like a game which requires alot of time!

Not sure what i was expecting to be honest.

Ive noticed the issue with having to click multiple times to select or plop things is much better today, for me at least.

It seemed a little better to me too I think. But I also got in the habit of doing a long click to make sure.

So I have reinstalled mavericks, origin works perfectly now, but simcity only works using -w which is windowed mode

It seems it was just wishful thinking that the clicking issue had improved. This is good news from the EA forum about it tho.

"We are planning to release Update 7.2 this week which will contain fixes to improve mouse/trackpad functionality on Mac for those having the issue in this thread.

More details of the update including other changes will be posted in the near future.

blfox77's tip is a good one all round even with 7.2 changes for those experiencing performance issues on Mac."

blfox77s tip was to reduce lighting and shadows btw as those are the biggest hits to performance.

That's good news. Do you have a link to that EA thread?

I bit the bullet and managed to grab a code from eBay going reasonably priced...

Been playing 2 days now in my own sandbox area and I have to say I am enjoying it, its running fairly well on my 13inch retina, most of my settings are 'normal' or 'low' but I can live with that - I think the engine is pretty clever but you really do need to claim a couple of city areas and work on them to make them work together because of the size being so small - they should really update with a 'metropolis' option - so you can use the ENTIRE tile.

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing the 'plop' issue - that one really winds me up!

I got a cheap (ish) code and redeemed it and instantly regretted it

I have a 27" 3.4ghz i7, with 12GB Ram, SSD and 2GB VRAM and on only medium settings it lags. This is supposed to be a native version?!

Im struggling to believe that my machine can't handle this, so its either the crappiest coding ever or its the constant connected server crap thats slowing things down which just shows how bad an idea constantly online is.

Low settings it looks like a game from 1997 and Ultra settings look worse than medium if you ask me but there doesnt seem any difference in performance so maybe its just crap graphics from EA. It certainly doesnt look like the screenshots and promo videos and if my machine cant match the promo graphics I think we've all been had yet again by EAs misleading advertising.

Something isn't right. I have a 27" iMac, i7 2.93GHz 16GB RAM 500GB SSD and 1GB VRAM and it runs well with the medium settings for me.

I've had a closer look at it and I dont think its the game per se thats lagging it seems to be the animations that are a bit 'wobbly'. They arent jerky as such but vehicles for example seem to drive down the street with a constant slowing down and speeding up motion and so give the whole experience a sense of uneasiness. The cars feel like they are moving through treacle as do the rest of the animations. It just doesn't 'feel' right.

The graphics on closer inspection arent too bad to be fair. It takes a bit of getting used to everything being blurred. Some of the ground textures are ropey as hell though.

Overall everything feels all 'gloopy treacle like' and response needs sharpening up. Its hard work just watching the animations if that makes sense.

7.2 seems to completely fix the clicking issues for me.

Not that I had any real performance issues before, but everything does seem to feel faster and smoother too.

7.2 fix click problem and maybe performance boost but still on window mode only here on DP 7...anyway great jobs from EA :)

Yeah, I know what you mean, but its not something I'm experiencing. I mostly play on the cMBP which has similar specs as the aforementioned iMac.

I'm not sure what the issue could be for you. Its quite odd.

Agreed. The update seems to have fixed the clicking issue for me as well.

I have one city out of the three in the region that is a total disaster. Its on high ground and half the city is split by a ridgeline making a percentage of the area unusable.

This is the city that has all of the regions oil, ore and coal, and has the least amount of water. I'm constantly chasing the clean water table with pumping stations and despite the other two cities having an overabundance of clean water, meters pegged in the green, and selling to this other city, it never has enough water and crucial services keep closing due to lack of water.

Plus, I had to chase the ore, coal and oil as it gets removed from an area and springs up in another. So I'm always tearing down large swaths of the city and rebuilding it.

Then there was a meltdown at the power plant and a good percentage of the city is unusable due to radiation.

Despite all of this, its still making money by means of trading, but I have a hard time getting metal and oil to the great works site.

What bothers me the most is chasing the water nonstop.

The other two cities are doing very well.

So I'm running Sim City on a 2011 3.4GHz Core i7, 12GB Ram, ATI 6970M GPU with 2GB. However, the motion blur on this game is horrible when moving left to right and especially when following vehicles. I'm playing at 1920x1080 resolution and the only way to make Motion blur disappear is to set the lighting effects on minimum, however this radically downgrades the overall graphics of the game to an un-acceptable level.

I'm interested what others experiences are, what settings people with similar set up as mine are using and what the motion blur is like on the current iMac with the GTX 680MX GPU.

Such a shame as the 6970M GPU is still a capable card but it would appear EA / Maxis have incorporated a whole load of graphical sub setting under the overall "Lighting" setting which really hits the games performance.

I'm running it on a similar spec'd iMac with all medium settings and it seems to run well for me and doesn't look bad at all.

You can put your sewage plant next to the upgraded water station and use filter pumps for unlimited water. Or up the water in the other two cities. When selling to other cities, the units are divided by total cities in the region. For example, if I have a city selling 100 units of something to the region, and theres 4 other cities, only 25 units will be available to each. This is good and bad.
