I just downloaded it and it states that I can't play the game until 1:01pm tomorrow? Why would they release it at 1:01pm? I mean I guess midnight may not make sense, although it makes sense to me, but I would at least like to play it when I wake up tomorrow at like 9am or something...

Gives them a working hour in the morning before everything goes live.

Release looks 18:01 BST, 17:01 UTC, going by Origin.

Sorry, think I got at cross purposes with you there. This is just running Origin itself? and not attempting to launch SC while unreleased?

If you delete the .plist again and get into Origin: Does subscribing to BETA Versions (Restart Origin>Update Required) in Application Settings have any impact?

Just running origin itself causes the issue. I tried the beta version and that made it worse, lol

I'm not sure about this, but I give a thumbs up to a "preload." It looks like it'll only take about 10 minutes to download for me, but a lot of people don't have 25Mbps connections. So it's good to give a chance for people to literally jump on at a certain time. I don't understand the 1 p.m. thing, but whatevs. I'm tired of playing on my Windows notebook that can barely run it.

I have been playing in a VM. The preload downloaded just over 10 minutes for me. Glad nowadays 2 gigs is nothing. Man back in the day that would be crazy.

Well, I just installed Origin for Mac and am pre-loading SimCity. Let's see if it craps out like it has for several others.

I really wish I didn't have to install this just to play this one game.

Looking at the 2GB file, it seems more promising (as in, we don't have to wait for any updates to start the game). The PC Version started at 200mb and when you went to open, it would spend a load of time downloading updates.

I'm looking forward to the game. Been waiting ages for it, but with all the issues the PC crowd had I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing!

Same here... downloading Updated App......

Looks like if I want to play the game I'll need to restore to mountain lion. Sim city just bounces on the dock then closes

I got the game working on OSX so far I'm able to put mainly everything on high (I have 2 set on medium).

Where teh game starts to fall apart is when you have lighting/shadow. By just having lighting at the lowest (and having shadows turn off) it looks and runs great.

Prior to this I was playing this on a top end PC with duel GPUs and I'm happy with the results.

anyone running this on 2011 imac with 2GB 6970m at native 1440P resolution?

Curious as to how far back you have to dial the settings. Also trying to work out whether the problems reported are predominately NVIDIA or ATI as well.

(there is dos equivalent switch in the mac origin game settings that adds the resolution
Code:
I got the game to run at 2560x1440 by adding this to the 'Game Properties" in the Origin client: -r:2560x1440

Hope it helps

Does that really work?? Please say so. Also I am running on late 2012 27in imac with a Nvidia 660m 512mb on full settings and not having issues.

----------

Oh snap it does work. No more black bars!!!

forget this game

after all i read and saw this game is just a joke and noth worth the money...

Mavericks is currently unsupported, per post at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/17807889/. Maxis are working on the issue and we'll hopefully see a fix sooner rather than later.

thanks. I reinstalled mountain lion much to my dismay :s

once origin get it sorted i'll reinstall mavericks ;)

just added that to the properties. quick question, when i run the game and go to settings should it say 2560x1440 cos at the moment, it shows a different resolution

That's horrible you had to re-install the OS to make a game work. I wouldn't have gone that far.

Well it is an unreleased OS so they really don't have to support it yet. But surprised with how long it has been in development they didn't at least test it.

I appreciate that, but as you said, would have been good for them to test it at least

No it doesn't say it. But just not having the black bars on the side of the screen anymore is better.

Anyone running this game on a 2011 27" iMac with i5 and AMD 6770 512mb ?

I also have 12GB of Ram.

Just wondering if its smooth and playable at a decent level?
