There is nothing "childish" about the colors. That is nothing more than your projected bias against something new replacing the older design colors.

It looks to me like your Apple bragging rights have been removed from you due to what you see from the new lower class color build. A bruised Apple ego doesn't mean the product has failed or lost it's appeal. It simply means you don't like the new design, which you have a right to your opinion.

the bondi Blue imac sitting in my few apartments did alot of heavy graphic design, internet and played music from 1999-2009, even with a Apple airport to a kenwood stereo system.
what was nice is the RAM and Hard Drive could be upgraded to keep up with the times.
hope that is sitting in a classroom, but something tells me that imac was used to parts and salvaged.

They never had a space grey iMac anyway, so you’re still in the same situation. Other than the Pro, which you said yourself in a different reply you shouldn’t have to pay more. So, it’s silver. Which is still an option. Don’t like the white bezel? But a black bezel skin from dbrand.

All of these comments about “it’s not professional” crack me up. “Professional” computers don’t have a defined, boring color scheme. And even if it did (which is a ridiculous idea), these aren’t professional machines. They’re not labeled or marketed that way. It’s like buying a kids bike with Thomas the Tank Engine on it and complaining it’s too small for you and not plain. It’s not meant for your purposes, but you bought it because you wanted a smaller, cheaper bike.

I replaced a 32GB/2TB/i9 16” MBP with an iMac. I do “professional” work in every sense of the word. Having to pick a color didn’t bother me, I welcomed it. My first though was “this is great, everything in my office is grey and boring” and inspired me to repaint the walls and brighten things up.

I really don’t get why so many people have “it’s not professional if it’s not boring” etched into their brains. The looks of a tool have zero to do with if it’s professional. Do the Heat stop being professional basketball players on the games they wear bright neon Miami-inspired uniforms? All of MLB stop being professional on Mother’s Day when they wear pink, use pink bats, etc? Baby blue on Father’s Day? What about NASCAR drivers in bright cars? Do they all not look professional either?

Other than the vocal minority of Apple fans I’ve never heard anyone complain about something not looking professional just because of color. It’s absurd and laughable, honestly.

A lot of people around here have their egos tied to Apple products. In their mind, they associate the older design with Apple elitism, which makes for great forum bragging rights, as well as personal bragging rights with friends and company. With the new design, their Apple ego is threaten and they feel they can't rightfully brag about having the latest chip computer that can do what they need done. That is why you see so many comments about toys and childish this, that, and the other. Said people are trying to further distance themselves from the 'lowly' type while keeping their perceived Apple ego identity intact.

I agree it is all absurd. Unfortunately, this kind of behavior has been going on for years and won't be changing any time soon.

I love my iMac. I was worried I might not with so much negativity even before they were shipped but I can say for sure I'm 100% happy with mine. I got blue and maybe the front is a bit too muted but it's fine. The screen is awesome and it's super fast.

Yeah I never understood that. It's just a tool/ toy for me. I'm not trying to impress anyone and other than a few excited social media posts the day I received it no one sees it. It's for my enjoyment and use.

Also to all those who can't stand white bezels for some reason there is a dbrand skin to change it. Personally I like it the way it is but everyone has different tastes and likes.

So I have waited years to finally get an iMac and this is the look of the redesign? I just saw these and the colors completely took the professional look away from the iMac and made them look like an elementary classroom on Nickelodeon.

These new pastel colors definitely take the elegant appearance away from what Apple stood for with their iMac's and products overall. The older models gave the iMac a nice Apple look...a great and professional machine. These colors are like which toy do you want from a product that belongs on Nickelodeon. I get it, colors are not for everyone but why is every option that way? Its like you have to get a color or you don't get one. A bit childish looking color options.

If you want something simple and more elegant your only option is the silver one and the silver is so bland and boring it looks like yogurt. It makes the screen look like a plastic rectangle.

The other colors are so vibrant on one side and then so pastel on the other side. It makes the chin pop out and become even more noticeable than before. I don't know how annoying the color of the bezel will be when you are working on the iMac and staring at a blue or orange or green chin all day with a white bezel around.

Why does it not come in the Space Gray color? That color would at least make the iMac look professional again and less blinding.

Imagine you have a modern looking office with simple colors and want a black computer but now you have a freaking BLUE iMAC on your desk.

I sure hope the 27" replacement comes in Space Gray.
I originally ordered the orange iMac for launch day delivery. I wanted to love it so much, but the chin in real life is salmon pink, not orange, and the color was super distracting in my peripheral vision. I returned the orange one and picked up a silver from the Apple store instead. It's much more muted and doesn't bother me as much. I do like that the entire front is one piece of glass, and the white screen borders really don't bother me.

I also really like the green, but I'm not feeling green > silver enough to wait 6 weeks for delivery from Apple. The silver is really elegant in person, and it reminds me of a sleek version of my old iMac G5!

As far as 1) is concerned I completely understand your point that you want a space grey option. However the space grey or other so called professional finishes are historically targeted at the more expensive "Pro" Models. If you go back to the earlier PowerPC iMacs (G4 Angle-poise and then the more familiar G4 and 1st Gen Intel iMacs with a chin) these were only ever available in white plastic. The G4 iBooks were white as well. This is the consumer range of Macs. Apple is now offering iMacs in more colours than it has ever had, more choice for everyone. At the end of the day for every person like yourself that wants space grey, there are probably 2 or 3 more people that like one of the other colour options. In other words I am expecting these iMacs to really drive significant growth in iMac sales. They offer great options for colour, outstanding value for the performance of the M1 chips and quality of display that people right now can't get anywhere else.

2) This is your view and you are entitled to it. I might agree with your point more if the chin colour was a stronger colour like the rear, but the front colours are much more muted, and I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

Take a look at the thread of people posting pictures of their new iMacs in room settings. I have seen people like @theshirlgirl with the green iMacs in rooms with soft pastel green green colours, it looks amazing.

The new iMacs will sell because of the same reason the first ones sold so well: Personalization!

In an incredibly homogenizing world, where being 'off the scale' is considered threatening, people can 'fly that freak flag' with a green *GASP* computer on their desk in the privacy of their own home. They can buy 'the red one', and come home and feel represented, empowered, acknowledged, supported, naughty even... And get the Yellow one, and feel energized by having a computer for them, that they feel represents them.

It's like car colors, and I think this 'argument' was likely argued when Henry Ford dared to offer cars in colors other than black, or white. (I think it was him)

Being able to chose your own color would lead to anarchy! The world would crash and burn... Luddites and naysayers have tried to keep people in boxes since the beginning of time! I can imagine Neanderthals looking at Oggs new thing, the 'Wheel', and frantically believing that their world would end. It did, but the wheel didn't have that much to do with it. *shrug*

OMG!!! A 'pink' iMac? I have other things to be concerned about than someone having a 'pink' iMac. (Even if it's supposed to be red)

And I grew up in a 'green' house. Green appliances in the kitchen. Green toilets. Green carpet. Green tinted paint everywhere. OMG!!! The dislike of green has been muted over the years, but I checked into a hotel, and the room had a distinctive green hue to it. I was able to suppress any flashbacks, but it was close...😆😆😆

But, if green is your thing, go for it.

I'd be tied between the yellow, orange, or red systems. Why not. Every other system I have is either beige, black, space gray, or 'silver'. BORING!!!

Your are telling your age with the green world ecosystem, Pinky. :p You forgot to mention the green floral wallpaper in the kitchen and plastic on the furniture. :D

The only thing that kind of gives me pause, with this specification of M1 iMac, is the price. In the years, I followed Apple products, usually you could pick up the iMac with better specs than the portable line, for the same cost. This year, it's kind of reversed. All the smaller models, with 16GB memory and 1TB SSDs, are hundreds of dollars less than the same configuration for the iMac, this time around. It makes me want to wait for some more real-world tests to see what the performance advantage it has. Usually, it's an easy buy consideration, but this time, my decision is made harder on whether the Mac mini option would be a better choice or not as 16GB and at least 1TB SSD are an important factor for me. The idea is to replace my previous 2013 iMac which is now a terrible desktop companion for my M1 MacBook Air.

Yes, some people are tied to the old days where the bright white Apple logo would shine on the back of the Macbook screens or the silver names of the computer or apple logo would be neatly inlaid on the bottom of their black bezel screens.

These iMacs are definitely revolutionary and customizable which appeals to many who don't want the boring beige computers of yesteryear...

I for one love the individualization of my iMac with the options I feel are right for me and me alone (Blue to match my blue iPhone 12, Gigabit ethernet option, full sized numeric keyboard, Pro Apps Bundle).

As long as all the parts work as intended and last a few years the colour is not a big issue. Ask the many who were hoodwinked into buying a laptop with the infamous butterfly keyboard (sold by Apple for a shameful four years) if they would have traded their silver for a properly made keyboard in any colour.

That blue color looks really good. You need a second one to replace the other Mac in the background.

OMG, there were more layers of hell the parents could have risen (sunk) to?

I did laugh, though, when the mom was talking about 'that house'. She said that the one reason they bought it was because it included 'all' of the appliances, and everything was a 'great green' color. And then she said that she got sick of it, and couldn't wait until something died so it could be replaced. I think it was the fridge, but the green stove was next. Yeah, a lot of that was old stuff in that old, strange house, but it is really dated by today's standards. (It's hard to believe that major appliances, of the day were available in colors other than black, white, and 'stainless'. I remember actually seeing BLUE kitchen appliances! Yes, horror of horrors, there were blue things!)

Funny though how a green toilet will still raise some bile in the back of my throat. (Some of which was the bizarre color combinations of things IN the green toilet. *GULP*)

We moved and the new house didn't have anything green in it for a long long time...:p:cool:

Ha, you saw that display in the background!

It's my 24" Apple Cinema display I use daily for 11 years now.

I am looking for a TB3 to MD adapter so that I can compare how it looks next to the 24" iMac....

My grandparents had a house with a pink 50s bathroom. I always thought it was so groovy! All the 50s pastel bathroom fixtures bring back happy memories of visiting them when I was a kid.

I'm fine with the colors and even the chin, but would have liked to see them retain the Silver/Black combo too with and updated keyboard/mouse. I think the odds are pretty high that the 2022 or 2023 24" iMacs will come in less pastel like colors. Like when Apple added graphite and then switched from fruity colors to indigo, ruby, sage and even all white. People keep referring to the original fruity colors as so popular, but fail to mention Apple only retained that lineup for about 18 months.

There is no performance advantage of the iMac or any of the current M1 models. The iMac is more expensive because it's a huge piece of glass and aluminum compared to the other M1 models. If you have a nice monitor go for the mini. I have the iMac but it's because I wanted an all in one and I love the look

No performance advantage except M1 MacBook Air has passive cooling (No fan) so after about 10 minutes of maxing the CPU it will throttle. That and the very base Air has one less GPU core.

Hey hey leave the lighted Apple logo out of this 🤣... I miss it on the MacBook. I'm glad my iMac doesn't have it because it sits next to a window and it would shine through my curtains like a big "I have an expensive computer inside, come steal it" sign"

If you want one that's "darker", get the blue or purple color.

Or... wait for the large-screen mx iMac that's coming later this year.
But be aware... it's pretty much going to "look like" the 24" model, only... BIGGER.

My grandparents-in-law had an old house that had sunny yellow everywhere. Toilets, shower tiles, kitchen, etc... It was a really different vibe, and they wanted to trash it all! I actually loved it. It was a lot better than green.🤢🤢🤢🤢

What smaller models do you mean? The 21.5 iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro?

I have the blue one and it's fairly light on the side you see. On the back it's darker than I expected. This iMac is meant to be in a home setting so that's why the light colors. Even the advertizements show that. I think if they went with Space Gray most people wouldn't want it in their kitchen or other area that's not for an office.

Hey, that's correct - my first non silver Mac I got was a 12" 2015 Retina Macbook in gold.

The butterfly keyboard was definitely the weak link.

Case in point: I also got a 2017 rMB in case the 2015 went bad and the 2017 had the keyboard / top cover / battery replaced out under warranty.

So far, both of them are doing well...
