I do not think the need to change iPad Os as such. Stage manger is perfectly find. It is more like:

1) Allow for Background Rendering, do not hibernate apps straight away when switching to another
2) Allow for Virtual RAM to allow Apps to Render Files that are bigger then RAM
3) Multiple Audio Streams
4) File App to having the functionality of finder

That would be awesome

Appreciate your response.

I have two MacBooks, and have no need for macOS on my iPad.

They are both superb devices, with their own advantages.
I agree on the macOS on iPad Pro. I have an M1 12.9 iPad Pro and it's an amazing piece of hardware. Sometimes I prefer it to macOS devices. I have an M1 MacBook Air and M3 Pro MacBook Pro and all have different roles. I think the only feature left to add to the iPad Pro, other than an off topic conversation about iPadOS improvements, would be to add an additional Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port, on device. Space them apart just like on the MacBooks. One port for charging while utilizing the other for external monitor, dock accessories, etc.

Sticking to hardware on this.

Smaller bezels.
Charging ports on both sides?
Integrated stand.
Bring back the Smart Keyboard Folio or some sort of lightweight equivalent (with backlighting!)
I need a dock for my Magic Keyboard!

If we're touching on software- multi user accounts is essential if I'm ever buying another iPad. I can't see any arguments from consumers against this simple change.
You are not wrong, but I don’t see them changing this… it doesn’t benefit Apple. It’s like asking them to port over iMessage to Android.

I do think they will change it, eventually. It's such an unnecessary anti-consumer tactic to drum up extra sales. I also don't think they'll take away multi user accounts on MacOS.

Umm... what makes you think they will change this? I’m genuinely curious… because I get your perspective, that it’s an anti-consumer tactic.

But why would Apple offer it on the iPad? It makes sense on macOS…. since it carries desktop hardware (iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro).

You're right in that Apple do unnecessarily hold back a LOT from the consumer, almost spitefully so- RAM, storage, various software and hardware features over the years- but they do tend to drip feed us improvements. Today's iPad is a lot more mature, and a lot closer to MacOS, than the ipad of 14 years ago. I can only see tablet sales dropping in coming years, so they'll have to find some new features from somewhere to help sell future incarnations.

Action button. Pretty disappointed it wasn’t added to the m4s. Can’t be too hard to do.

USB-C on both sides

Maybe a Dynamic Island with bezels as slim as iPhone. However, add a setting that brings back the current sized bezels as software for palm rejection. Enable and disable that setting depending on if you’re watching a video, gaming, drawing, etc

none of these will happen

You technically get an action button with the squeeze feature of the Apple Pencil Pro. Though I find it keep activating it by mistake, so maybe not the best place for one.

I absolutely love my new M4 iPad Pro.

Great screen, great speakers, fast, light, Apple Pencil Pro is a game changer.

I just don’t know what they can do to make iPad any better?

Suggestions?
Tim Cook already has his minions working on the text, green screenage and superlative adjectives
to defy this model in the next OCD..um WWDC meeting in 2024-25

From a hardware perspective, I’d love to see Apple add the Taptic Engine - they’d probably need to add two or four for best effect, but it would make a huge difference when using the virtual keyboard and other UI elements.

Agree with others on here, additionally:

- Wallet App (iOS version)
- MagSafe charging (wired or wireless)
- More battery life with current design. (if a MBA can do 18hrs then what the hell Apple?)
- Better PWM or utilize DC dimming
- Old speakers prior to M4
- Always on display
- Slide to type on full size keyboard
- USB C on both sides
- FLUSH camera lenses.
- iPadOS misses out on basic iOS apps and doesn’t allow to do macOS so you’re left with the worst of both worlds. Soooo better software.

There’s still a lot of headroom to “perfection”, not to speak of the software.

The speakers are worse compared to the previous models.

There should be two front cameras and Face ID sensors so that they work equally well in portrait and landscape.

Apple should restore the choice of having fixed (orientation-independent) volume buttons.

The original iPad design with the edges curved towards the back feels better in hand. I’m sure some compromise with the pencil attachment would be possible.

Also the front-only Smart Cover associated with the old design would be nice.

The nano-texture model shouldn’t have glossy bezels.

I’d like to see the return of a white bezel option.

A second USB port would sometimes be useful.

I would prefer a physical SIM card slot on the cellular model.

Provide a Mac-MagSafe-like charging cable to be attached to the smart connector.

The edges of the power and volume buttons are unnecessarily sharp. They feel and actuate much nicer on Samsung tablets.

Get rid of the camera bump.

LED indicator for notifications.

Headphone jack.

1. Telephoto camera: I take notes on iPad Pro, sometimes need to take a photo of what's projected on screen or whiteboard in a meeting room / classroom. A telephoto lens would be very helpful, and it's been missing from all generations of iPad Pro.

2. Folding case. Like the ThinkPad X1 Fold 13inch, but an iPad Pro. (the performance on ThinkPad X1 Fold 13inch actually sucks, so don't bother trying to buy that and use it as a daily drive) The M4 iPad Pro 13inch has a way too big footprint, and it's ridiculously thin, which doesn't make it any more portable. What's the point of making it so thin yet huge?? It really needs to be folded.

Titanium. Lighter, stronger.

I am also absolutely in love with my new 13" M4.

I want to be able to run full OS VMs. Apple could bring MacOS, but furthermore they should allow JIT to facilitate UTM/Parallels/etc. so that Windows/Linux/etc. could also be run.

Make it in a 15", 17", and of course iPadOS still has a long way to go
