What do you use now? Does it have an inline citation function? I keep trying zotero and the like but it’s a problem too.
I've downloaded Zotero, but haven't done any training on it. Right now, I've reverted to doing all my citations by hand, as it were.

I'm greedy :) I want support for ultrawide monitors and 3 or 4 multitasking apps with different window sizes. If I could use the Thunderbolt port to plug the new iPad Pro into my 32:9 monitor and run it at its full 5120x1440 resolution, and run one 16:9 app in the center of the screen and use the sides for two or three more apps, then the iPad could replace my daily drive computer while docked. I used-to use the iPad Pro as my daily drive computer, it's great for that, but these days I have bigger needs :)

Well for me it’s the operating system.

I’m extremely happy with my iPad Pro 12.9 but with this insane power the new iPad just got I need a more Serious OS in it.

With IPad Os just feel overpowered for no reason since there are only a handful of apps if any, to use that power

Apple has not step up to micro LED! They going with the cheapskate mini LED screen for only the 12.9" iPad Pro. Apple just going to delay the micro LED until everyone else has it and them market it as their own invention!

Here’s what iPadOS still can’t do for me:
  • edit the CMS of our company’s website (odd quirk - one part of the CMS only registers mouse hovering)
  • multitask more than two things. Dear Tim, please give us some form of windowed/tabbed multitasking
  • run desktop-class apps (I’m clutching onto Lightroom Classic until the day it dies)
  • run Terminal
  • print to our office finishing printer (brochures, stapled packets, etc) except for basic printing
  • print to non air-print printers
All that being said, it makes a great thin client for our company’s virtual desktop! ?

I remember that last year, the ordering for iPhone 12 started at 5am PST. All I have seen in these forums is the same time for this Friday 4/30 order start. I remember staying up to midnight on the night before to place my orders. That was better for me than getting up before 5am.

I am a worrier and would like to see something from Apple on this 4/30 order start time. Please reply to this post with a link to Apple’s statement on the ordering start.

Thank you very much in advance.

I’d say that the new IPP is for creatively professionals, who on watching the Apple event last week, instantly knew that they absolutely needed it for their work; ie for the specific pro apps that they use.

No one else should get one until Apple makes iOS far more powerful than it currently is, ie so it finally becomes a touch based general computer.

Can't handle my application development and website development tasks.

I'd love it to gain a stacked windows mode like DWM where I can quickly open multiple apps and they fill the screen and I can easily strong press and drag to move them into the larger area on smaller area. Make it super easy to have multiple things open at the same time in a regular workflow.

File management

Desktop class application and games when plugged in and using the magic keyboard and optional mouse.

Parallels and windows enterprise class support when using a mouse and keyboard (or trackpad).

Linux phones have something cool, when you plug into a external monitor they switch to the desktop variant of their OS. Something like that would be sweet.

True and it's a shame, because they're really positioning the iPad Pro as a touch-based general computer if you look at the ads... so hopefully they do more

Me too I would be the one who will hope for a Samsung Dex like option for iPadOS. It could be lovely if they could make a Lite version of Mac OS, more touch oriented just for the Pro series iPads or the ones which can handle it. And if it could run, optimized Mac OS Apps, permitting more floating or docked windows.

I would love if i could dock up to 2, 3 or 4 apps.

Also would be nicer if i could divide screen on portrait mode vertically instead of horizontally with two apps.

Never mind

New iPad 12.9 inch is over powered for what my needs are, so it would be a waste to even think about it and just keep my 2020 11 inch iPad Pro. I am more focused now on the 14 inch MacBook Pro hopefully coming out soon which will have everything except touch, which I do not need on a notebook. And on top of that it would cost about the same or a little more if you add 16 gb / Magic keyboard / pencil / and mouse to the 12.9 iPad Pro. New iPad 12.9 it’s nice to have if you have money, but is way over powered and the apps that may come out for it do not fall in most peoples uses.

Two biggest gripes for me:
1. Doesn't run Logic Pro (that should be a no-brainer now that 8GB is standard going forward for iPad Pro)
2. I can't manage or add songs to my Music library since I use Apple Lossless format and only the Mac Music app (or Windows) can manage lossless files
3. (not Apple's fault) - 3rd party applications rarely support same feature set as Mac version (MS Office, Spotify, Zoom, etc.)
#3 drives me nuts.

Yes, indeed.

Or, EarPods with USB-C connectors are at least what Apple could start selling. One of both. But adding those cables in between: no-go area.
And don't think AirPods (wireless, needs charging, EUR 229,-) are a replacement for users that love EarPods (cable, always works, EUR 19,-).
Macs have headphone jack. ios devices don't.

#3 drives me nuts.

Yes, it is Apple’s fault. They have enough leverage on the ecosystem to demand feature parity, and ensure adequate APIs for implementing it.

And agreed, it drives me nuts too.

For me the biggest thing is availability of true desktop replacement apps. As a developer I want to see a better file management system, access to a terminal and some ways to actually code without using a website or mocking it through tunneling (which defeats the purpose IMO). I do realize I'm probably in the minority though!

OP's answer is über easy:
  • If you consider the iPad as a tablet, i.e. a big iPhone, the iPad probably misses nothing and incremental iPadOS updates are fine
  • If you consider the iPad as a desktop replacement, i.e. you don't have any other computer, the iPad is missing so many features and upgrades to the existing ones that I'm tired even thinking of listing them. But hey, "what's a computer" after all, right?
