Can you tell me more about these scrubbers - which one do you use ?

I use Memory Clean and you can get it at the app store for free. It will analyze and free any unused ram. you can custom set it so that if your ram drops below a certain threshold such as 25mb it will automatically free an unused ram so you don't write out to HD. It will run in the menu bar and you can set it to load at boot. :)

Well, I ordered the parts for my hack-Mini on Tues. This should guarantee a new Mini within the next week. You're welcome, everyone!

I'm getting a 2012 i5 mini from craigslist tonight. The new mini will now most definitely be released within the next week

I am almost certainly loosing faith in Apple Mac. I will wait a little more and i will get a pc if there is no new mini or if the new mini happens to be just a little ******* computer. I can't carry an imac if i move and i can't afford a pro, i also will not pay a cent for that hd4000. My late 08 is on its last legs. Soon i will have to make that decision.

I'm confused, you can carry a pc and all its peripherals but you can't carry an iMac?

Yes it is a 27 inch fragile screen vs a midi tower and all these other lcd's and parts which i already own and i dont want to give away. There is a possibilty that i move overseas and i also have to buy the mac from overseas as my country lacks tech market. Its nearly impossible to order imac overseas however i can carry a mini in my luggage while i travel.

Ah, makes sense.

I think if there's going to be a release soon, then it'll coincide with the event in September, even if it's not actually showcased there. That said, with Yosemite and iOS 8 integrating together it might not be a bad time to highlight an inexpensive Mac desktop to go with your iPhone…

So yeah, I'm going to wait until after that, if there's still no sign then I'll be making my own hack mini (i7-4790T in an Akasa Euler S case for me, as it's Mini sized but 100% passively cooled).

I am getting more and more convinced to buy a base 15" rMBP instead of the mystical new Mac mini

maybe that's what apple wants: they want us who wait for new Mac mini to buy their more expensive MacBooks

on the other hand:
I fear if you want to upgrade the potential new mac mini to the same specs as the 15" rMBP: then the total price your fully speced Mac mini is not much less than the MacBook pro
because it's quite possible that there are no user-upgrades possible in the new Mac mini (and this was always the big advantage if the mini)

There will be no refresh until after I buy a 2012.

When I bought my first iMac, the very day it was delivered, Apple brought out new models with more features and more power. When I bought my MacBook, Apple updated the model one month after. When I bought my MacBook Air, Apple introduced a newer and better MacBook Air one week later.

My iMac is nearly kaput and I would like to replace it with a Mac Mini. The thing is, the Mac Mini has not been updated in two years and is overdo for a refresh. However, experience has taught me the Mac Mini will not be upgraded until shortly after I buy an older model.

So did that make your newly purchased iMac or MacBooks any less of a computer?

Would a new Mac Mini make the current model any less of a computer?

Get the computer you need when you need it.

When it no longer meets your needs either upgrade what you have or get a new computer, whichever is most cost effective.

Result…. satisfaction.

Folks who continually chase the computer they desire, irrespective of real needs, are doomed to an expensive life of frustration.

Me…. My base model 2009 Mini still serves my needs just fine, with the only upgrades being an extra 4GB of RAM and Mountain Lion a couple of years ago. I haven't gone up to mavericks because it would take forever with my slow internet connection. I'll probably get the 120 GB HDD swapped out for a 256GB SSD and have it upgraded to Mavericks (or Yosemite) later this year.

A couple of years ago I got into digital photography, and now have quite a few sporting action pictures used by the local press. I am using a Fujifilm X10, and iPhoto works fine with that. An upgrade to a better camera (with a longer lens) along with Aperture would be nice. It would work with my Core 2 Duo computer, but Core i3 or higher is recommended……. New camera, lens, computer, monitor, software….. to get a significant upgrade I would be looking at spending at least 4 months pay…… As I do need to pay rent and eat, I'm content with what I have for now.

My guess is that there will be another generation, or two, of Mac Mini before I replace my 2009 incarnation.

Please please please buy an older model right now :)

Patience

Somebody has to take one for the team. We need a futile gesture at this point. :D

A good few are being sold it would seem.

The base model Core i5 is still in the top ten best sellers on Amazon, and it tops the ratings. It runs the current OS and apps, and is good for what is coming up in the foreseeable future. The current Mini is still doing it for the average Joe and Jill.

A new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming, albeit not soon enough for the the average antsy geek.

Tuesday is almost certainly coming next week, unless the world as we know it ends before then. At the current rate, the 3,000th post will almost certainly come before 2 or 3 more Thursdays have passed.

More seriously, I agree with what you say about the current Mini performance, as far as the average consumer is concerned. Only thing I really want improved in the Mini is the graphics. HD4000 is okay, no real complaints about it. But one more step up, say to the HD5000 as the base level (with Iris upgrade options), will cover everything consumers need, except maybe high level gaming.

Don't do it! Every time Tim Cook reads this thread and sees someone deciding to get a more expensive Mac in the absence of the new Mini, he delays it one more month.

I feel like the best chance of the release will be September 9th. There is always a lot of hype and build up for that event but you can't actually BUY anything afterwards. I know its not iOS8 related, but it probably drives traffic to the site, and maybe they'll want to have a new apple product for people to buy? Here's hoping

At this point we are a month away from the iPhone keynote. I'm not sure why Apple wouldn't simply wait to update the Mini then or for the October keynote.

If it's a redesign, it will be announced at a keynote. If it's merely a spec bump it can still be announced at a keynote or a quiet random day.
