still hope view refreshed mac mini to end of august deadline. After that "mid 2014 Mac mini" will be a joke. :apple:

Here's a Supermoon as seen from my apartment. I hope it helps ya'll.

Yes it does, nice shot :D

in to log the #2850th post.

Keep it coming guys. Sooner or later Apple will know they should come up with refreshed mini.

Jony Ive should make a custom 2014 mini with this entire thread laser etched onto its surface as a microscopic texture.

Apple can then auction it off for charity to the individual who wants the privilege of owning the very first unit of this mythic new machine.

Dunno what's bugging you, but whatever it is, your cynicism is getting tedious on a generally congenial thread. May i suggest you move yourself along.

Point taken. I don't wish to contaminate this thread with tedious cynicism, so I shall bow out. Good luck with the chanting.

I seen it!

I just had a vision! We've been thinking about this all wrong. Apple has this trend toward simplicity, right? Remove extra useless appendages like DVD burners and the like? Pare everything down to its purest elements? NO, NO, NO!

What Apple will do is to make the Mini MORE, not LESS. It will become the brain inside your house. High capacity SSD drive? Check. This gives them room to add connectors: a connector for everything. HDMI, DVI, Ethernet, Firewire, Twisted Pair, Thunderbolt, USB, the works. Bluetooth, wireless ...It becomes the box that drives everything. Think about it: refrigerators have tiny computers in them, microwaves have computers in them ... everything has a chip now, and the fight is to invent One Ring to Bind Them All. Protocol isn't Apple's strength, hardware is. Make a box, sits out of the way on a desk somewhere, and runs: your TV. Movies. Radio. Home security system. Thermostat. Printer. Window blinds. Talks to the fridge and updates the grocery list on your iPhone. Cloud backup. Personal NAS. Baby monitor. Washing machine signal. Monitors your energy usage and tells you where the hogs are. Sprinkler system. Phone answering machine. Replace all those tiny individual brains with one great big one, one that fits right on your desk. You can even connect a monitor and use it as a computer!

Look at the "smartphone". It's not a smart phone. It's a tiny computer that can make phone calls. The new Mini will be a bigger version of that, a more powerful version, but one that looks so friendly, so non-intimidating, that Grandma will buy it. People won't realize it's a computer, any more than they realize the iPhone is a computer.

It isn't meant to be carried in your purse or pocket, so it can be bigger and heavier than a tablet. It doesn't need a built in display. It does't even need an attached keyboard. You can control it from your smartphone, or use a physical remote control - finally, a universal remote that really exists!

It's perfect. It will be powerful. And it can be cheap! It's almost there already. For the price of a smartphone, maybe a little more, you can completely revolutionize your home, and without knowing anything about computers as we have known them. Apple, are you doing this? Is this why it's taking so long to release the Mini? And here we thought you were just waiting around for some chip! Oh, please, please, please ....

All we need is the name.

It would be funny if there was "The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming" laser-engraved in all the new Mac mini cases somewhere visible once it's opened.

Greetings Kentuckienne -

>All we need is the name.

I think they will release it on the last day of December. That way everyone buying one the next day will have a year old mini!

:):cool::rolleyes:

look at the crowd waiting for the new mac mini :D

I noticed that the Apple site with the updated MacBook Pros still lists the 2012 style upgradable 13" MacBook Pro with a lowered price. I had read these models were suppose to be discontinued this year but It is possible that Apple will continue to sell 2012 models through the beginning of next year. This news may not be good for those hoping for an updated 2014 Mac mini since Apple could be extending production on Macs using 2012 Intel hardware designs. We will find out in the coming months.

That is an interesting observation and a mystery.

Maybe the alleged new 12" will replace that.

Just have to wait and see what happens.

I am as interested in a nice 24-27 inch Retina monitor as I am a new mac mini.

Bring it on, Apple! Tonight please!
Nicely sums up where I'm at. Waiting… waiting… waiting….

Meanwhile, my mid-2007 mini (upped to 2 GB memory), which was my first ever Mac, is still going strong.

Can't say the same of my Flatron W2253V LG monitor. Poor viewing angle. Abysmal display of dark scenes, shadows, etc. Am desperate to replace it, but… waiting… waiting… waiting...

One of my plan B's is to get an Air 13inch and use it in clamshell mode as my main computer. PCI SSD, HD5000 is at least a mini (pun intended) boost.

And could use as portable also.

Because I do see at least a 5% chance it will not be updated :(

I tried that with an rmbp last year and using Handbrake it sounded like an airplane. Sent it back and bought a Mini.

I think they would have reduced the price of the Mini also. They haven't reduced the price, otherwise they would have to raise it for the new model. I believe that points to the Mini not being discontinued. Therefore it isn't the same situation as the MBP.
