Ya.. Can't wait for these potential changes to the Mini sometime in the future... :(

- soldered non-upgradeable RAM
- single bay for HDD/SSD
- HDD/SSD not user upgradeable
- no IR sensor
- no Firewire 800 port
- no RJ-45 Ethernet port
- smaller non stackable form factor
- plastic body instead of aluminum
- smaller power supply
- unable to power as many USB devices without an external power source

I can live without Firewire, but if any of the other things you mention happen, Apple can kiss my butt goodbye to future purchases. Luckily, I'm still happy with my 2011 Mac Mini.

To the delight of many enthusiasts Apple keeps further reducing the form factor and removing ports and interfaces for the Mac product line. At some point in it's future evolution the Mac Mini might end up looking like a large iPhone without the screen. They could change the name to Mac Micro.

C'mon Apple! Release the new Mac Mini with support for 4K please

Done right (60hz), it would need TB2 + GPU + upgraded cooling. That's a lot to ask of what appears to be a spec bump. The next version (say 2016) should deliver the goods. By which time, 4k displays and TVs should be the default.

I'm really hoping they retain Firewire, so I do not have to buy new audio interfaces.

Or get a TB > FW dongle?

yeeha

yeeha, I've submitted the link to macrumors
My post made the front page !
I DO WANT a reward: how about a new bto mac mini ;)

I think Iris Pro is capable of driving a 4k display (NOT play games on it). the 60hz limitation is software (OS / thunderbolt drivers) and not hardware.
Furthermore the quad core options are 45W, so switching to Haswells 47W quads with Iris Pro doesn't need upgraded cooling. However it would be cool if they could improve it!

Well it's a good way to get people to your site whether were punked or not.
I'll reserve judgement when I see some specs and the Ifixit teardown with some benchmarks to decide if it is worth it to me. Iris graphics on my 13rMBP didn't impress me that much. If the I7 comes with Iris Pro I'll probably get one. Otherwise I'll wait for the fall to see what happens with Broadwell.

sighs

They use HTTPs and an EV-certificate (green) for the customer login page. Very trustworthy, IMHO.
They (computerstore = coolblue) have a gross of 64 million euro a year...
The doubters can check their annual report submitted at the government in attachment...

Apple have every config imaginable from 2011 models to BTO configs of 2012 models on the refurb section of the UK store right now.

Same in Austria/Germany. 2011 models, 2012, BTO, servers.

If that's not a sign of a "sale" I don't know.

if they keep it user upgradable (HDD and RAM) I'd like 2 of them to go please :D

I agree. If they get the speed bump of the Haswell Macbook Pros, Thunderbolt2, Iris Pro and even stick with dual SATA 6Gb/s rather than going with PCIe SSDs and still remain user upgradable, I know what I'm aiming for for my next Mac right away.

I wonder if they'll even keep the i5 system or go with i7s across the board.

Imagine a 2012 model with a 2Ghz Ivy Bridge i7 replacing the current i5 at it's existing price point, then 2.3 and 2.6Ghz Haswell i7s, Thunderbolt2 etc... filling in the higher end at current price points. That way they can say it's faster across the board AND up to 2 x faster than previous.

Traves USA

my dilemma. I'm going to USA, from 13 to 24 February.. I was thinking of buying a refurbished i7. Will the new mini be released before February 24 ??:(

yse, because apple ships new products very fast within the US,
if you are near a offical apple-store it is even a higher chance that you get the new Mini before February 24

Refurbished models can only be bought from the online Apple store. You won't be able to just pick one up at an Apple retail store. Another problem is that availability of refurbished minis is very sporadic - they appear in bunches and sell out very quickly.

The bright side is that if new minis are released refurbished old models tend to appear that are actually unsold inventory and the price of the now old models drop.

If you really want refurbished, just check the store daily. You can actually have it delivered to a physical store for pickup.

I bought a 2011 w/6630m in mid December. They come and go all the time.

:) Thanks...

yesterday the i7 refurbished was available.I almost pull the trigger.
the major problem is according to apple website. "Ships to store. Available Feb 5 at Apple Store". Just imagine i buy and the mini and ship to an apple store. on February 3 a new mini is out!

You can return the refurbished one. The refurbished current model will be much less expensive than the new future model (which won't be available as a refurb for months). So its just a cost/benefits decision.
