The correct answer; well done.

You have both failed. The correct answer is, of course:

Almost certainly.

I leave it to the Council of Minians to determine your just penance. I am but a humble follower, merely pointing out unholy deviance from the One True Faith of Almost Certainess.

I sincerely apologize. To appease the Apple gods, Micky Do will buy an Apple Watch.

Gotta love the new mini announced today: totally invisible.
This was an iOS, tvOS, watchOS only event.

This, almost certainly, may mean that the new Mac Mini also will be larger.
Ya reckon? Would be going against the whole making-stuff-thinner trend for their comps.

My hope is they introduce a new quad core model to slot nicely in between the dual core Minis and the Pro.

they have not announced the new mac mini or the other macs yet.they will probley announce them some time next month .

I love this thread :)

As per iceman we'll need to wait and see what they do with MBP and iMac processor wise before the Mini. On a couple of occasions recently I've been tempted by an iMac but it's really a properly upgraded Mini I want to replace my 2009 machine.

The A-processor based Mac Mini is almost certainly coming....

Could it be, that Apple releases a 2016 Mac Mini with an A12 processor? Tim Cook smirking while he informs the audience "We've been compiling the full OS X for ARM processors for the last two years... as well as all other software we create". With Microsoft also showing up on stage showing Office running on the new architecture, and perhaps Panic Inc. also making an appearance saying "With the new Xcode we create Universal Builds with the push of a button"....

Of course, it'll be five years before Adobe have ported their software.

Maybe it will be an origami fold of the iPad Pro.

Do you really find it so outlandish, that Apple will switch to their own CPUs within a few years?

1) Apples SoC and SiP technology is catching up real fast.
2) Apple shows a remarkable lack of enthusiasm when it comes to the Pro hardware (Xserve, Mac Pro).
3) Apple likes to be in control of everything.
4) They like to point out how iOS is close to OS X.

Is it really far out to believe, they'll start making "traditional" desktops (Mac Mini and iMac) and laptops (Macbook) that comes with one of their privately developed CPUs?

The A9X has Geekbench scores around 2100 for single core and 5100 for multicore.

The 2015 MacBook scores 2325 and 5265.

It's close.

I missed the part where I said that the idea that Apple would use its own CPUs in everything was outlandish. An origami iPad Pro is fairly outlandish. I'm agnostic on Apple making its own CPUs for OS10 devices. There would be x86 issues to solve, and I don't know how that would work out.

Ah, the elusive xMac, or New Cube. Don't hold your breath; Apple would have done this a long time ago if they wanted to, but it would cannibalize sales of the iMac.

Will that be sufficient appeasement to get the Gods to resurrect the quad Mini?

Desert Surfer probably knows that there is fat chance of me appeasing the  gods with the purchase of an WATCH….. I would also need to acquire an iPhone to make it work properly, all up blowing a month or more worth of pay for baubles I neither need nor desire.

I am happy to endure the wrath of the  gods (and possibly some of my fellow mere mortals on this here forum)….. even if it does curtail the resurrection of the quad-core Mini, that I neither need (like many) nor desire (unlike a good few).

I remain secure in the knowledge that the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.

If and when it does, and the original HDD on my early 2009 Mac Mini fails, I may be tempted to replace it with a new Mini. That is if it comes with tech that is too tempting to turn down…..

…...as was the case when I replaced my 2005 Mini original, rather than get it repaired.

As things stand, the current offerings offer little significant extra benefit for my use, from my point of view. Repair would be the most cost effective option.

Oh mighty  gods, the ball is back in your court. The only Apple products I currently own and use are a base model early 2009 Mac Mini, and a small form wired Apple Keyboard. Hit back with temptation I cannot ignore.

Don't you covet one of them shiny new MaxiPads, Micky?

Good grief….. sounds like some 20th century feminine hygiene product!

If you mean the iPad Pro…… Nope, not really, though I concede that in my line of work the need for more portable computing does seem to be creeping in. The occasional transportability of the Mac Mini was, and is, one of its attractions for me, but having to move it frequently would soon become a hassle.

I have been looking at some textbooks where dialogue soundtracks are only available on-line, to registered owners of the book, each copy of which has a unique code. They are neither available as a CD, nor, as far as I can tell, in downloadable form for a OS X.

I don't think they're too far off. At the moment we have a mini that is analogous with the 13"rMBP, all they need to do is move on up to the base 15" rMBP and I think most of us would be happy.

Intel's improving graphics are the key here; it'll only ever have integrated graphics from here on in. [The last to carry a separate GPU was in 2011, when the HD3000 just wasn't much chop. They subsequently deemed the HD4000 'good enough' and Intel will outpace the race for UHD displays.]

In 2 or 3 years, Apple will switch to their own CPUs. At this same time, they will be at iOS 11. At this point, in combination with their own SoCs, they will fork iOS 11 to create macOS 11, which will be designed for professionals that use a keyboard and mouse; and OS X will be donezo :( .

Sadly agree.
