With most of the rest of the Mac line up having had a tweak relatively recently, the Mac Mini (along with the MacBook Pro retina) must almost certainly be next in line….. early 2016?

Of the others, the MacBook Pro seems likely to bite the dust, and the Mac Pro is likely to get more than a tweak.

I just get the feeling HDMI is going to be dropped by many manufactures (including Apple) for DisplayPort for the simple reason of cost! This includes the new SkyLake Minis.
The would certainly like to, but Mac Mini is paired with a TV most of the time, and hardly any TVs support DisplayPort...

There is a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (I've got one for my MBP when I travel and want to connect to a TV). But otherwise they are two different uses -- DisplayPort for computer monitors and HDMI for televisions.

And what Apple product has dropped HDMI for DisplayPort? None I've seen. All current Macs with HDMI also have ThunderBolt which directly supports DisplayPort. No Mac that had HDMI has ever dropped it.

With a displayport to hdmi adapter, you lose the sound, correct?

you can get mini display port to cdmi from amazon
aLLreli® 3M Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable | Mini DP to HDMI | Thunderbolt Compatible | Full HD 1080p | 24k Gold Plated Connectors | Video+Audio - White 3 Meter 9.8 feet

I think we'll see mid-late 2016 MM with skylake. Don't think there's going to be 3TB drive and they'll keep 1TB with option to SSD, perhaps 512GB SSD built in the highest model.

i think the new mac mini line up is coming oct 29th wish would be next week it would all so mark 1 year since the late 2014 came out

so i really dont think apple will come out with a new mac mini this year may be next year or the year after

I did think the mini would get the 1.6 ghz update that Imacs got before 2016. I have hopes that the mini will get quad core again next year and not be phased out. The mini really is a cool device. I have no interest in the mac pro its to much for what i need.

Well, MacRumors now has a Don't buy tag on the Mac Mini in the buyers guide….. though there are those who have said that for the 2014 Mini since the day it was released!

How long was the 2012 iteration tagged Don't buy before the current one was finally released?

When the current one was released, the 2012 tag reverted to "buy now!"

The 2012 Mac mini was "Don't Buy" for a year before the 2014 was released. The Thunderbolt Display has now been "Don't Buy" for over two years.

Hasn't stopped people from buying it, apparently.
Which is amazing, given the price-tag it has.

A large online-store here has it as the 18th most-sold display. Of 540. One "decent" Dell and a 4K display being slightly ahead of it.
Most of the display on higher ranks are 1920x1200 or even FHD. The No1 display costs just 15% of the ATD...
Insane.

People are going to do what they want regardless how smart it is. You can buy the same resolution display as the apple for half the cost. You basically could buy two of those displays for the price of 1 apple.

The new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming…..

…..next week, next month, or next year. It may, or may not make ya'll happy.

It least we know it will probably drop sometime after the 13" rMBP is refreshed...

As long as it has Skylake and at least an Iris 550, I'm happy :)
