true but Apple seems to prefer making a profit. The goal here is to sell you dated technology for a premium price.

  • The TB display isn't using the laminated screen like the iMac.
  • The Airport express is still stuck to the N standard.
  • Who else could sell a computer with a dual core for 1000$ with integrated graphics (mini).
I'm speechless every time I go to the Apple store. It was easier to swallow the price when they were updating their product line each year.

It's even worse when you realize the only product Apple has that doesn't use mobile CPUs is the Mac Pro...

The worst part is that the entry level MP is not better than a loaded iMac. So unless you invest some serious money, it's not really worth it. It's the only option if you need more than an iMac. But you can also buy a car :) with that money.

I expect to see a MBA with AX (a9,a10) cpu in the near future, if this happen, it will give a clear direction of their future product line (and also the end of the hackintosh/bootcamp community).

I always had big pc lying around but I'm starting to switch back some of my work back, I don't want to depend on the Mac if they cannot give a better value for the money.

I've got a nMP (6-core, D700's) and while it's a very nice machine it's not particularly quick for a £4000 machine. Personally I think MS have upped the game with Windows 10 and when it comes time to replace my nMP I'll be looking at PC workstations (HP Z, Dell Precision) before I look at another Mac. The current Mac Pro should be just a 'Mac' and priced between the Mini and a much high-end machine that is the Mac Pro. I know Apple don't care, but I would never buy an iMac even it in theory it does sit between the Mini and the Mac Pro as it's just a different type of machine altogether and I'm not into all-in-ones. Sorry Apple, but your hardware choice while being very nicely made are just too limited.

I'm glad I don't need to make a decision until next year but at this point I hope Apple gets it S in one pile and offer something worth investing in because right now I see nothing while MS has moved on and left Apple in the dust.

iMac uses desktop CPU, mobile GPU. Its internals without a monitor would make a hell of a nice option in the huge gap between the mini and iMac. Especially if it had enough room for a desktop GPU as well.

Seems like no Mac Mini update today, b

Seems so. But as The Verge pointed out (http://www.theverge.com/2015/10/13/9512505/new-apple-imac-announced-specs-price-release-date-21-inch), the 21,5" iMac only got Broadwell, because Skylake processors with Iris Pro are not out yet. Which means Apple may be waiting for Skylake with Iris Pro for the Mac Mini. ;)

it's broadwell for the imac 21 but it's Skylake for the 27.. so mini won't get an update until the update the laptops.

Even with mobile quad cores the Mac Mini would be a great machine.

I don´t know why Apple never went that way if they already had fit this kind of processors in the MBP 15 which is even thinner / hotter.

No, it is not dead at all.

it may not be dead but it won't be part of the line up in the long term. They often advertise the ipad/ipadpro as a computer replacement device and the mini will soon be under powered compared to those devices (even if we use the mini for other things). They don't really care about how you use the computer. They want to sell you the whole package and the mini is not interesting anymore for them.

The ipad pro could probably be more powerful than a mini and they don't want to make the mini more powerful. Doing a beefier mini would eat away the sales of iMac. This model just doesn't make sense in their future lineup. The Mac Pro is often paired to a superb screen but the people buying mini's often pair them to a cheap screen. When I see one, it doesn't bring me the Apple enthusiast smile I have when I look at an iMac.

I'm sure the MBA be also be replaced by a hybrid model (half-laptop,half-tablet) to compete against the Surface Book.

All these ideas sound good. I just wonder if it is REALLY what Apple is thinking. Until we know that, as good as all these Mini is Dead ideas are, they are still simply conjecture.

true, but anyway, even if someone knew, they have to adapt and react to the market. There could be an event that changes their direction and focus. So I guess it's pointless to 'try' speculating when you're in an evolving market.

Yes, and I like speculating as a game, it is one of my favorite things to do :) Personally, I say that Apple is aware of the intense love for the mini by a small but vocal crowd and also as a gateway into the mac world. For instance, a small biz can switch to Mac much cheaper with a mini and existing monitors than with iMacs.

They did mess up big time with the latest mini. With not too much effort on Apple's part, they could make the mini the number one coolest computer on the planet. PCIe SSD, USB-C, T3, Skylake, etc etc etc. Yes, I know they have SSD now, but I mean FASTER SSD :)

I looked literally for YEARS for a small, fast, silent computer and the Mac Mini became the best choice and got me to move to the Mac world. Formerly a 23 year Windows vet :)

That's usually in March/April isn't it?
Yes, but I would be willing to bet that the laptops will be updated to Skylake in the Spring while the Mac mini until the Fall, just like in 2014 :(

I'm hoping for a new design with an SSD and 8GB of RAM standard, but that's probably too much to ask, since even the new iMacs don't come with an SSD standard

They have already evolved with iPad Pro the jump off point and iMac the trucks a lot of people don't require any longer.

Apple my keep the Mini around for a little while but it doesn't satisfy as many users because it is underpowered and too expensive compared to other evolving Mini PCs that are benefiting from the renaissance of Windows 10 with HTPC gaming machines with quad core and dedicated graphics capabilities.

Apples hopes to use IOS as it's main market with a limited OS X audience.

Most professionals have already converted to Windows workstations because of the choices of balanced power and graphics capabilities. Apple has given that fight up.

5400 rpm HD ......what a joke.
