So new Intel Skylakes were released today, fit for Macbook Pro 15". Does would be great in the next Mac Mini. Historically, has Mac Mini had the same processor as the top of the line Macbook Pro? Or was it a real desktop CPU?

It has been always mobile version of CPUs. It used to have quad core CPU (HQ) But now it only has dual (U)

The new i5-6350hq which has a configurable TDP of 35W (instead of 45W) and iris pro would be a killer option for the mac mini, I will buy it without doubts. But I don't think they'll do that =(

I was wondering the same thing. Or, as I put it in the thread discussing that news item:
What about the effing Mac mini?!?

The new Intel Iris 560 graphic cards should be a nice boost to the Mini's graphic capacity.

Uh, neither? Usually the same as the 13" MBP.

Well that's good then, because it looks like we'll see 13" Macbook Pros first (around March/April), followed by 15" mid to late 2016. Mac Mini could be released along with the new Macbook Pro 13" :)

Sounds logical, but (if I'm remembering correctly), the mini inexplicably has to wait in line; it's usually last to see the drop down. Maybe this is due to relative availability of the processors..? I'm guessing.

I'd love to know the decision making process at Apple. At the least, I'd like to send them a message:
"Show the Mac some LOVE!!" "And Tim, stop being such a cheapskate."

So, what is the prognosis for the weekend? Have they ever announced a new mini on a Saturday in January?

Does anyone else notice how frequently stock just disappears? A minute ago there were several models in the store. Now there's one.

Seems strange how much it fluctuates
Maybe it's Tim Cook sitting in his office, 'testing' the inventory system. Or perhaps he aims to have only a single Mac mini in play at any one time… "sold it? I guess we'd better build/refurb another then…"

It's the same reason as the soldered RAM, 5400 rpm drive and no quad core. To taunt us.

Which is a good thing, because it means they remember the Mac mini exists!

I'm thinking more and more about just building my own Windows pc. I only really use it for general browsing duties. May play the odd game on it. Apart from that he only other thing is I like how it integrates with everything.

That said I use iCloud backups and have iCloud photos on so all things are kept in sync and never use the continuity features of OS X.

Im sure I could build a decent enough pc for the cost of a moderate Mac mini

I'd hate to think that Windows might be becoming more and more like a realistic option... This new round of updates will say a lot. But the path they're on right now suggests there won't be too many surprises...

I feel like their product line is getting too convoluted and the original customers are getting sidelined.

I totally agree.

I genuinely believe they've lost interest in half the products. Theyre "pro" desktop is old now, the Mac mini could be such a great way of introducing people to OS X but Apple seem to have lost interest in it also.

I'd suggest it's due to the fact that the big sellers are MacBooks and iMacs so they get all the love.

I wouldn't even be surprised if they binned off the other products. especially as iOS evolves to a point where it could be la but more useful for plugging things into.

Could I have my iCloud photos synced up with a Windows pc then?

I have a surface 3 for work and I have to say it hasn't missed a beat, Windows 10 actually seems pretty decent.

iCloud photos and iCloud in general will sync in Windows 10.
